One year and a couple of days ago, Williamson signed up to Ubersite, and the general consensus, it seems, was that Uber became a better place for it. I've known him since 2000, and since no-one else looks like they're gonna manage it (http://www.ubersite.com/m/67134) here comes the most kickass tribute post of all time.
When high school started, he was a full-on Nazi. I was a full-on communist too, so it's interesting we became good mates - I think this can be attributed to a shared loathing of people who didn't give a fuck. And feminists.
The first thing I can remember working on together was in 2001, a history project, about the Gallipoli landings. It required a ten minute oral presentation and a model, neither of which we had when we remembered it was due. Thankfully, the monster in Williamson reared its head and he swung a punch at the brick wall next to him, connecting with the metal runner for a rolling door and causing blood to drip all down his hand. Thanks to this, we didn't need to do the presentation.
It was in 2002 that WIlliamson started paying an interest to Japanese chicks. The student teacher that nobody else really saw as that attractive was the first one I think. It's hard to remember, they have all blurred together.
It was Williamson who introduced me to Ubersite. I remember the scene quite vividly. he and some other guy were standing outside a maths class, discussing, as one does, Goatse. "Some shit that gets posted on Ubersite is absolutely disgusting" were his words.
Anyway, there's no better tribute that an Australian can make than to say that he's a good bloke.
He's the kind of bloke who'll try his utmost to stay on his feet after being punched in the face by somebody twice his strength.
He's the kind of bloke who volunteers to be the one to stand outside and have rocks pegged at him, with only a boogie board for a shield, purely for everybody else's entertainment.
He's the kind of bloke who won't dob in his mates for any reason.
He's the kind of bloke who'll be the only person to somehow try to break your fall when you're thrown six metres into the air by various people practising rugby lineouts. On bricks.
He's the kind of bloke who'll still let you into his house after vomitting on his couch, finding his porn stash, stealing his sake, taking swings at his face, telling the whole room he should "hook in" with the girl next to him before leaving, smashing a garden lamp, hitting on his mother, and kicking his playstation (he doesn't know about that yet).
He's the kind of bloke who'll send you an Enya mp3 when your girlfriend breaks up with you and you have no music that fits the occasion.
He's the kind of bloke who'll lend you $35.20 for more booze because you were stupid enough to spend all your money on sampling all the premium beers, despite you hypothetically being a poverty-stricken university student who has his weekly budget worked out down to the cents column.
"OK, fine Thorpe, I'll lend you money, if you just shut up."
"Thanks mate, you're a good mate. I'll pay you back as soon as I get paid. Thanks for doing that."
