"No Bullshit. All awesome."
The Epic Continues. The second tournament that is the ultimate test of Uber writing ability begins. Will Xcuses remain the current Lord of Awesome? How many participants more than our former 16 will we have, and how much will the growing popularity be reflected in this?
To join your self, and make a heroic attempt at becoming the 'next one,' comment below, while cutting and pasting into your comment: 'I officially join DPM2 with this account####.' Include the pound/number-signs as shown. Note: ANY ONE CAN JOIN. We don't mind wads because they get eliminated early any way; that's what Round One is for. And, if we allow anybody, newb-wonders still get a chance. In order to govern fairly and let all question be left up to my honest judgement, *I* will not participate in this one *shock!*. The deadline to join is September 20th.
Begins: October 1st, 2005 (First Round Titles are released along with official bracket.)
Ends: A Saturday in November, depending on the number of participants.
Format: It will be set-up as a classic single-elimination bracket. If the number of participants is not a power of 2 (8 16 32 64 etc,) the number of participants higher than the next-lowest power of two will be the number of people that get a Round One Bi. The highest-seeded participants of the necessary number will receive the bis. The match-ups will be set up in a 'highest seed plays lowest seed, second highest seed plays second lowest seed' fashion, with the same pattern statically following into the second round as though the highest seeded participant won each match (follow the seed-bracket below.) The two participants in each match-up will get their title and receive exactly six days to write a story or post that corresponds with it; being able to plan and write in this time span is part of the skill needed to make it to the finals. Seven days after the titles are released (one day after the deadline,) the scores are tallied, and the winners are officially announced as the next round begins, along with the next round's titles and match-ups. This continues until all but one has been defeated and the winner is declared. The two semi-final losers will have a match in the final round for 'third place.'
Rounds/Participants:
4 participants: 2 Rounds
5-8 participants: 3 Rounds
9-16 participants: 4 Rounds
17-32 participants: 5 Rounds
33-64 participants: 6 Rounds
In the unlikely event that more than 64 attempt to join, only the first 64 who requested it will be allowed. However, if more than 50 join, the limit for the next competition will be expanded to 128.
Seeding: The special formula (below.) DPM1 winner receives an extra 200 000 points. DPM1's second place receives extra 75 000 points. DPM1's third place receives extra 35 000 points. Fourth gets 15 000 points. Forfeits from DM1 (if any join) are seeded lower than all non-forfeits by default. Forfeits from DM1 who stated officially, before the deadline, that they'd be forfeiting. get seeded above the other forfeits, but below every one else. Seeding, along with the forfeit rule, exists so that every round except the first one is completely wad-free, but at the same time, a talented, idealistic newb can take a shot at the title (pun sauce!) and succeed.
Rules:
(Primarily the same as D-Prime Madness I. These are simple and easy to follow.)
- Post must correspond with title provided to your match-up
- Any post that has any thing that would be unsafe for work or similar atmospheres must begin with 'NSFW'
- No plagiarism
- A competition post or link to one cannot explicitly reference the giving of ratings on Ubersite. Neither can Uberboard posts, however, we can't keep track of that; just don't do it any way, unless you're a total wad.
- There must be at least 100 characters in each entry (about 20 words,) unless you want to take a chance by submitting a serious, effort-requiring drawing; drawings must still correspond with the title and be unquestionably serious; if there are words added to your non-drawing image file, and there is question as to whether or not you reached this number, they will be counted.
- You must receive at least 3 unique ratings that aren't from your self. If you receive only 2 ratings, your competition rating for the entry will either default to 0, or whatever the lowest rating you received is (whichever is lower.) If you receive one or zero unique ratings, you lose automatically. Remember that you're allowed to whore your own post as much as you want by commenting on your self to get MRR, and linking from other posts, so long as you don't reference your self being rated in any specific way (you can say 'it's great and awesome' if you want, but not 'give me a +2,' for example.)
- If you rate the post you're up against, your opponent can decide to have it disregarded at will (this isn't a rule in the sense that it's something you're not allowed to do and can be punished for, but, it's something you should know.)
- You may request to have a rating disregarded for the contest if it is going to influence the outcome of the match, and there's direct evidence that it was not made based on the content of the post, or was by either the alter of someone who already rated it or your opponent. I will decide, considering the explanation given and the input of other contestants, whether or not the claim is valid.
Titles:
I have many ways to generate good titles without knowing mine until minutes before I post them (though that's now irrelevant.) However, if you would like to submit titles your self, which have to make sense, have some meaning, and can't dictate the story line completely, do so here along with 'Titles****' at the top of your list; include the asterisks. If I do this instead of making them my self, I won't get blamed if they aren't maximum quality. However, I will still pick which ones are used. Do not submit any titles that you directly remember from any other Ubersite writing competitions that you may be aware of. All titles for each Round will be released at the beginning of Round One; more dedicated competitors will plan ahead despite the chance that they may not get far enough to use the title they're planning for.
Seeding-Points Formula:
Hit = 1 point
Post = 650 points
Review Written = 30 points
Review On Your Posts = 15 points
Rating * 75 000 = Points Added
Avg Rating of last 10 posts * 25 000 = Points Added [If you have fewer than 10 posts, this factor is disregarded.]
Won DPM1 = 200 000 Points
Second in DPM1 = 75 000 points
Third in DPM1 = 35 000 points
Fourth in DPM1 = 15 000 points
The point system was changed slightly, to put more focus on things other than 'hits' and 'reviews on your posts.'
Participants will be ranked for the potential bis and their position on the bracket based on the formula above. Those who forfeited but said that they were going to before the deadline are automatically ranked under non-forfeiters and seeded amongst themselves with the above point system. Those who forfeited without explanation are automatically ranked under every one else, and reseeded with the above point system amongst themselves.
Let sign-ups for the games begin, and let us find who Fall's Lord of Awesome will be! People who already plan to join include: Rad, ETS, Badassmofo, Darko, and many more!

I hereby officially withdraw from DPrime Madness 2, because the plan to avoid astounding hypocrisy involved me winning, and it has just occurred to me that that might not actually happen.

There's a difference. Unlike the NCAA to NIT, Uber Madness sucks and is run badly.

Hey, waddaya know, it appears there are plenty of spots.
I guess as a corollary to my previous statement, is the UM Committee gonna buy out D-Prime Madness like the NCAA bought out the NIT?
Cuz I think you could make a sweet profit.

Oh well, I'm going. I'll be back in an hour or so Uber.

I'm not sure. I just felt like giving you a -2.
Ummm....
Pros:
I enjoyed my rounds of UberMadness.
Anything to encourage me to post fiction or non picture posts is a good thing.
Cons:
I hate the fact that it is called "D_Prime Madness"
It is just a shitty version of UberMadness which will die out after another season, frankly.
I have enough on my plate at the moment anyway.
People will be sick of the format by the time the next UberMadness comes around.
On principle, I'm going to abstain. I hereby officially remove my application to join DPM2 with this account####.
