Yesterday was my birthday. I'm now a quarter century old.
In a way my life is just beginning. In another way, a part of my life is ending.
I will be moving away from my home and family in Cleveland to Florida.
Away from every friend I have ever had.
Away from the only life I've ever know.
And to tell the truth, I'm scared as hell.
It was a decision I made when I accepted my job. "You WILL have to move," they said. They even made me sign an agreement so they could fire me if I resisted. In two weeks I will be moving into a new place, with a new car, with a new job/boss/agenda.
I will miss the first snowfall.
I will miss the long summer nights of chirping crickets and lightning bugs.
I will miss the bonfires and football weekends with friends.
I will miss heavy metal concerts in the middle of fucking January.
I will miss the changing leaves and the thawing of spring.
I will miss being piss drunk at 4 AM with some of the best and worst people I know.
I will miss late summer baseball, unless the Tribe misses the postseason.
I will miss playing around with my 15 year-old, one-tooth cat and coming away with claw marks and blood all over my hands.
Most of all, I will miss the friends and family I grew up with...
Life is strange like that. You can complain and be miserable about the most meaningless of things and forget miss the whole picture. Something as simple as a walk in the park or a night at the ballpark can become the best thing in the world. A miserable rainy day can turn into the best soccer game you've ever played. A boring night of sitting in the park can be a window back in time.
As a good stoned friend once said: "Life, it's just fucked up, man."
Here's a picture of the birthday treat I bought for myself. I will NOT miss driving my old piece of shit.

Happy belated birthday, enjoy the new ride. Moving away sometimes gives you a great perspective on things. I was scared when I moved away too, but now, 4 yrs later, I don't know how the fuck I could've lived how I did back then. We all change and make new friends, find wicked people to party and drink with, and life goes on, usually for the better.
