I live in Northern Virginia, right outside of Washington DC. I often do side work for an events company up here, and events company that has been tapped to work for the National Guard in Louisiana building shelters for evacuees and National Guardsmen.
Twenty minutes ago, I asked my boss at my standard nine-to-five job (the job that affords me the luxury to hit up uber all day) for two weeks off, starting tomorrow, to head down to New Orleans to help with this project.
Ten minutes ago, he said yes.
There have been a lot of people who have shown no sympathy for the people down there. Please notice I didn't call them victims. However, whatever you may think about them, the bottom line is that there are thousands of people, including children, who are suffering, and it will only get worse before it gets better.
My company has advised me that I make the trip armed - the latest news reports are saying that people have begun opening fire on medical caravans, which is pretty fucked up.
The CDC is already thinking about quaranteening some areas to keep disease from spreading, diseaases that you don't normally associate with the industrialized world.
However, I feel that it is my civic duty to help. I also feel that, as a human, I cannot turn away from these people, regardless of whether or not their problem's are of their own making.
I know that few people are in a point of their lives where they can just up and move away for weeks at a time to do something like this. I'm simply asking you to think about how desperate things are down there, for everyone.
Once again, there are elderly, infirm, and young children who have been caught up in all of this. The looters are despicable, but I can't ignore the fact that decent people need help. Politics aside, this part of the world, our fellow countrymen and -women, need our help.

I often wish I was able to go out and help fellow americans when disasters such as this happen. I have one major problem keeping me from doing that....bill collectors.

Your noble words have inspired me to charter a bus with pontoons on it leaving from NY down to help those less fortunate in New Orleans to help those people out It shall be a trip to help out all those poor unfortunate women that havent been able to offer their usual street walking services as per the flood in the streets as opposed to between their legs where it should be We are all going to drive down and have sex forcibley if necicary for bottled water and bags of chips and for anal we give them a ride to land on our floating bus I have decided to spend my entire life savings on this trip and I feel that by saving money on such trivial matters as punctuation and spell check I hope to save enough to get a parting knob job from a floating cadaver before we leave the local best buy with my new 60 inch plasma tv that I purchased for the meer price of my newly aquired 14 year old whore errr I mean bottled water slut If you wish to carpool be sure to let me know and we can work something out for road head
