Yes, I'm coming out of retirement. Yes, everyone that said that I would be back on my retirement post were correct. I am back. My Venus (haha, that rhymes with... never mind) fly trap died and, as a result, I have more time on my hands.
Normally, I am a man of word. When I said that I was done, it would take a life jolting event to bring me back to the twisted, yet common sense-rich world of Uber. That event happened for me today.
I'm tired of turning on the TV and seeing, "Donate now for the victims of Katrina." "The city of New Orleans is..." "Survivors at the Superdome..."
OK, there was a hurricane, and it sucked, we get the picture. People had 4 days notice to get out. Three days prior to it making landfall, the mayor said that the hurricane that we've all dreaded is upon us, and issued a federal evacuation order. Some people left, most people stayed. But, Razor has already made this point, with one exception:
Now they're shooting at the helicopters that are sent to rescue them, and still demanding help. They're taking pot shots at the police that are helping them and still complaining that we're not assisting fast enough.
Effective today, I have been labeled a heartless racist.
At work, I have a reputation for being rather dry and heartless, which I am completely OK with. I'd rather be at peace with the world we live in than have to keep telling myself that things are better than what they actually are. Well, I got into it with one of my co-workers. She asked me how I felt about Katrina.
Carpet muncher: "Man, this is so terrible. Adam, what do you think of all this?"
Me: (trying to maintain some sense of political correctness) "What did they expect? They saw it lumbering towards them from 3 time zones away."
Carper muncher: "You don't think that some of them couldn't leave? That was pretty heartless of you!"
Me: (starting to get annoyed) "How is that possible?! If I saw something like that coming toward me, I'd find a way! Excuse me, but it's just plain dumb to try and sit through something like that."
Carpet muncher: "I can't believe someone could think that!! All those people need our help to get out of there and all you can say is they shouldn't have been there."
Me: (very deliberately) "Well, maybe if they weren't too busy robbing Wal-Marts, shooting at rescue helicopters, and taking pot shots at police, we could expedite getting them out."
Carpet muncher: (knowing I'm right) *sucks her lips* "I don't believe you."
Later on, I overhear her complaining to my boss about it, calling me racist for the poor black folk of New Orleans, my boss (knowing that my service numers are twice hers) tells her that I'm entitled to my opinion. She, in turn, storms out and takes a day pass to go home early. He later comes up to me and expressed relief that he's not the only one who thinks the same way I do, but to keep it to myself in the future.
The bottom line is this, yes, it's sad that people died and/or are suffering. But yes, they had the option to leave and avoid.
If I'm in Winston-Salem, NC, and I know that a wall of water and wind is heading my way, I could sure as shit make it to Raleigh where it's safe, and I'm not exactly the most well off, either. There are 60 year old homeless guys that have crossed continents on bicycles, so don't give me any bullshit about "not being able to leave". If you stayed in New Orleans (white people or black people), you're an idiot. If you stayed in Biloxi, you're an idiot. And if you shoot at rescue personnel, you should be left behind.

As my wife and I watched the news the night before landfall, I commented that I'd rather walk out than try to take shelter in that place.

It's a city. Lots people live in cities. That's why they're called cities. So... lots of people live in New Orleans ok? People are all different, no two are exactly alike and some people are very different to other people. Some people, a very small number of people, are very strange indeed and they may behave in unusual or even violent ways. Often these people are very sick and don't fully realise what they're doing, sometimes we don't know why they do the things they do. Luckily there aren't many people like this. You may see one or two in a big city with lots of people in it, but most people are decent and kind.
Do you see what I am trying to say in very small words? Yes, there are muppets in the city (in any city) but most people are innocent and good citizens. You cannot say 'well there was a bloke in New Orleans shooting at a rescue helicopter, therefore all people from New Orleans are violent muppets' without looking a bit silly.

HAHA!!! El Guapo you suck at life. You want to beat up an internet blogger.
BTW, I know more about the New Orleans and I'm 500 miles away from it. Yes, there is a northern egress across the lake, along with I-10 providing a NW and NE evac route, along with I-310 providing access to Highway 90. Most of those people decided to stay because they were too thick headed to heed federal evac orders, plus some were planning on looting and pillaging.
Also, I will slake the thirst of you one track mind and instead use Wilmington NC as my origination point rather than my hometown of Winston-Salem. EVERYONE FOR THE SAKE OF EL FEO'S INSISTANCE AT GEOGRAPHICAL ACCURACY ON HURRICANES, WILMINGTON IS NOW THE ORIGIN POINT.
AND, ever since Katrina formed, the news has been talking about it doing exactly what it did, if I was off by a day on the evac orders, you don't have to jump on me like a hobo on a ham sandwich.
Plus Winston-Salem is 200 miles from the coast, not 100. If you're going to parade your non-existant mental superiority, you may as well get the facts straight, asshat.

The black teenage boy who "stole" a school bus in New Orleans, filled it up with people (black, white, adults, children, etc.) and booked ass to the Houston Superdome, beating everyone else there, is a hero. (By "beating", I mean he got there before the others did, not that he hit people. Just wanted to clarify for all the brand-new racists out there.)
That kid kicks monumental ass. Don't start on the whole, "But he STOLE sumpin'!" line of shit--considering the circumstances, he did what any sane man would do.
Yes, he's facing a number of charges, but I'm sure they will be dropped.

Oh, and might I add:
You're over 100 miles inland you retarded piece of shit, with a much more developed highway system. You should try actually reading up on your subject before you post. But, your post is really only a pathetic attempt at attention whoring, veiled as a "coming out of retirement" post which has the same credibility as a "last tour ever" from KISS or The Stones.
Go kill yourself, for the rest of our sakes.

That's a lot of cavalier talk from an idiot that doesn't know shit.
Do you think the highway system can actually handle that many people trying to leave at once? I've got some news for you, jerkoff. You don't know shit about the area. Not everyone who tried to leave could even get out. NO is surrounded on 3 sides by water.
The ramifications should be obvious, but, since you're apparently a fucking retarded armchair pundit, I'll extrapolate. Traffic west into Baton Rouge was congested so badly that it took several hours to make what would ordinarily be an hour drive, for those that left early Sunday morning. There IS NO northern egress. Going east would have been madness and therefore out of the question. You go west, it's that fucking simple, or hope to God that you can get a flight out before they cancel all flights, IF you can get a seat and don't get bumped for some rich motherfucker with more connections than you have. NO is the most corrupt city, in the most corrupt state in this country. And where do you get this 4 days notice shit? Mandatory evacuations weren't ordered until the day before. You obviously don't know shit about hurricanes. It was a Cat 1 hurricane when it skipped over Florida, picked up some steam once it hit the Gulf, and within a few days ramped up to a Cat 5. And then suddenly turned north.
I would love to see you say shit like that in my physical presence, because I would beat your ass so fucking hard you couldn't walk or talk straight for the rest of your life. My parents, aunt and uncle, and my cousin live on the Mississippi Gulf coast. My parents and my aunt and uncle went north, and still it took a few hours to get 60 miles inland. Their houses are, in all probability, levelled. My cousin is still missing, she tried to go east from Biloxi to Florida, but an overturned semi forced them to turn back. After sitting in traffic for half a day. She took shelter, but the house they went to, her boyfriend's aunt's house, had already been hit by a tree, but they had no other choice, because trees and telephone poles were falling like dominos at that point. Once they got inside she called her mother, and while they were on the phone a tree fell on their car, and shortly after the phones went dead.
Thanks to the idiot news media, my family doesn't even know where to look for her. They're too busy reiterating the same stories about NO. Granted, it's a totally mind-boggling situation there. But you can say only so much, now they're just beating a dead horse. Tomorrow morning my uncle and two of his nephews are heading out from Natchez to go find her.
Go DIE you fucking cocksucking piece of shit.

Please shut the fuck up. There have been at least 10 posts today along the lines of:
"I don't feel sorry for them because:
1. They were given sufficient warning.
2. It wasn't as bad as the Tsunami.
3. Only the cheeseburgers stayed anyway.
4. blah blah blah"
Well congratulations. You've won "The edgy zinger" award for your intelligent and witty stance on the matter. Please collect your prize at either of the following websites:
