The Emancipation of
Sylvia Gregg.

She was forty years old. Reaching the end of what would have been described as a great beauty. Her auburn hair now dyed to keep the grey at bay, her green eyes once alarming in their colour now beginning to fade and her full lips now starting to line and feather at the edges. Looking at her you could see that she was a woman who had looked after or been looked after very well. Her name now was Talisa Tornace., but was once Sylvia Greg.

She looked at the door in front of her and decided that once and for all this would be the last customer this would be the last person she would serve.

Twenty years ago Sylvia Greg, a young girl had come to this city in the hopes of a better life in the hopes that she would become some-one. She had no experience in life, yet hoped that her natural beauty would catch the eye of some-one important and that they would make Sylvia Greg a star. When this didn't happen right away and her savings were down to the last dollar, she took different jobs, cleaning, witnessing and washing dishes. Not what she had planned but it paid the bills.

Talisa Tornace looked around the room she was in like it was the first time she had been there. The walls were maroon, the bedspread burgundy, all the light fittings were gold and muted in shades of red. A door at the end of the bed led into a bathroom with a spa and shower. She looked down at her body, now beginning to become old. It didn't matter how well she looked after herself, eventually nothing could fight off the ravages of age.

Sylvia Greg had met a man and made a mistake. She was now paying for that mistake as cramp's gripped her stomach. She pushed her guilt to the back of her mind and promised to herself that this would all be worth it in the end. There would be other's she promised herself, little realising this would be her first and last child.

Talisa Tornace was once the most popular of all the women in this establishment. Her beauty and charms never failed to entrance men of all ages. She had deflowered virgins, dominated some of the most powerful men in the city and made some of the hardest hearts fall in love. Over the last few years it had been just her regulars still coming to sample her wares. This business was no longer for her.

Sylvia Gregg was working her regular shift at a local Thai restaurant. Tonight there was a man there dining alone who couldn't seem to take his eyes off her, at the end of the night while he was paying his bill he handed Sylvia a card with just a phone number on it and told her that he had need of a girl who looked as lovely as her. Sylvia took the card and promptly forgot about it. Until after rummaging through a drawer one day she found the card. Her interest piqued she decided to call the man and walked down to the local phone box.

Talisa Tornace walked over to the nightstand and opened the drawer, she pulled out a small foil package and loosened a white powder, which she spread on the drawer, cut and snorted into her nose. She normally avoided all drugs and this was only the third time in her life she had used. Tonight of all nights she needed it though, more than ever. She laid back onto the bed and resumed her waiting.

Sylvia Gregg was told by the man who called himself Mr Golightly, to come in tonight for her first shift. The address he gave her led to an old non descript home in the poorer district. He told her that when she arrived to go around to the back entrance, which she did. When she entered the door a lady greeted her from behind a desk . She asked for the piece of paper that proclaimed her free from STD's and sent her into a back room to be checked down there by a doctor, from this moment on she turned her mind off to what was happening. When he decided she was fit for the work she was about to do, he sent her into yet another room, where she was showered and handed lingerie. Red to match her hair and set off her porcelain skin. What happened next she could never remember exactly, she remembered it hurting and then being slapped because she couldn't respond and then crying, crying, crying until another man was sent in. She never cried again. At the end of the night she showered and scrubbed like never before but she could never remove the filth could never scrub the stains off her soul. That was the day she ceased to be Sylvia Greg and became Talisa Tornace.

Talisa Tornace watched the door open from the bed. She watched the man walk in, glad he was a stranger. She sent him to the shower and sat at the end of the bed until he came out. As he walked through the bathroom door, she raised the gun. She could see the fear in his eyes and relished the power. Her power. The power she had lost for twenty years.

"Get on the bed" she ordered. The man obeyed and Talisa lowered the gun to his forehead, right between the eyes. They sat like this for many minutes, neither daring to take their eyes of the other. As Talisa watched the piss stain spread along the bedspread something inside her broke.

"You know what, I can't kill you. I just can't" she said. Talisa lowered the gun and walked out of the door, as she left Talisa left and all that was left was Sylvia Gregg.

It was the end. She was free.

Kaos is right. Still, something about this story really grabbed me. I don't know what it was exactly but I really, really liked it.

Kaos is still right though.

Yeah I wasn't too sure how I was going to finish this and then when the ending came up I had to rush it.

The ending of this seemed a little forced but over all a good piece of writing. Auto positive rating for using Klimt. He's one of my Illustrative heroes...
