Hey kids. This post is entirely devoid of content except for a question and some stuff on terrapins just because I'm bored. If you don't live in the Gainesville area or have a fascination with chelonians, go away. This is a waste of your time.
Anyhow, I'm going to be in Williston (just outside of Gainesville) some time in the next few months. If any Uber-folk wish to get together for an evening of lots of drinking, possible pot smoking, rabble rousing, and/or mildly fetishistic sex then let me know. Give me your e-mail or some way to contact you and we can maybe work out a mini-con or just a fun-filled evening for two or three somewhat psychotic people.
And here's some info on the most magically marvelous species of animal on the planet:
The Diamondback terrapin is a medium-sized basking turtle (emydidine) which lives along the Eastern coast of the U.S. from Cape Cod down and back over into Texas. There are 7 subspecies differing only in markings and subtle habitat-oriented behaviors. Keeping terrapins of any subspecies is restricted in all states where they are naturally present, due to overhunting for food in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
These fascinating turtles are unique in that they live in fully marine or brackish waters, though they may occasionally be found in freshwater rivers which connect to open bays/ ocean. They live primarily on a diet of mollusks, crustaceans, and fish, though they will eat pretty much anything meat-based that smells a little on the ripe side.
The most fascinating thing about the diamondback terrapin, especially the "ornate" subspecies, is its coloring. The shell is a dark gray/brown to black with yellow, orange, or red spots. The skin is dusty gray to milk white with perfect spots and blobs of black.
They're rare, they're odd, they're beautiful. They're the most wonderful creature God ever created.
Happy Thursday. Have a turtle.

Tragically, my hair is not that shade of orange. Come to think of it, that is probably a very good thing, because I'd look absolutely hideous. And god knows I don't need any more help with that.

When they first came out they were marketed here as Hero Turtles so we wouldnt go round stabbing the fuck out of each other and general ninja type stuff.

Below-Average Dan (and all pissants like him):
the title of the post tells EXACTLY what its content is. the first paragraph tells moaning nancy-boys to piss off if they don't want to read about Gainesville or turtles.
so why did you open it, and why did you keep reading?
