Hey everyone,
Some of you may remember me and most of you don't , but for anyone who does , I'm on my way out of La Porte Texas going East.. I asked poly am aj if I could stay in Iowa, and he said yes .. but I'm not leaning towards going that far.
Best wishes and good luck to anyone else in this storm's path,
Catscradle / Joey

The idea of being in suffocating heat with traffic at a standstill and a storm headed for you is like, worse than being trapped in a car with Cujo drooling and frothing and peering at you thru the glass with bloodshot eyes.

Well the least you could do is drop by and post a rant once in a while instead of only thinking about us when you have a chance of becoming homeless.
Ain't that how it always is though?

Well, I'm back from La Porte concluding the most unfortunate road trip of my life.
Wednesday at 6:00 pm, the storm was "forecasted" to head straight into Matagorda Bay. I fought traffic, moved 2 miles in 2 hours to get to Interstate 10, arrived in Lake Charles at one oclock Thursday morning.
Woke up Thursday at 8 to find, oh by the way, the storm has "wobbled" and is now coming straight up the Texas Louisiana border ( I'm sure everyone is familiar with where Lake Charles is by now) . Fought traffic again (RE evacuated) to get to Natchitoches, Louisiana (where Steel Magnolias was filmed) then finally today (Sunday) came back to La Porte, TX which suffered nary a breeze from this bewildering hurricane. I got many cool pictures travelling through North East Texas which I'll try to post at some point.
It's nice to see some people still remember you.

Dude, cats... you totally could have come and crashed in the spare bedroom in my flat on the air matress... We've got the best seats in town for this storm.
Plus, east was a really dumb direction to go... that's where the hurricane is.

Joey, please go live with AJ so he stops calling me at 3:00am with fanatical stories about his bar hopping friends and their zany antics...

We just got our power back a few days ago- we live about 55 miles from New Orleans, and the eye passed right over us- the storm, which we expreienced in 2 parts because of the eye, was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. It sounded like a giant was stomping around outside the house. Giant trees were snapping one right after the other like toothpicks, and then sometimes you'd see it go flying by, if you looked out the one small window that wasn't boarded. We watched the roof of the barn just peel right up like the top of a sardine tin and blow away to god knows where. After it all, when it got dark, it was so still, not even a breath of wind, and I have never experienced darkness so complete, it seemed to eat up our candle and lantern flames. I didn't cry, i wanted to, but I was unable to. That's how much the darkness and heat smothered me.
I cannot even begin to tell you folks what a massive clusterfuck Katrina caused. It took us 2 days to chinsaw and machete our way out where we live on a long driveway. It is still going on, there are large portions of our city with still no power and some without even water. Our city has tripled in population, and this is a small place with only one fucking Wal-mart, 2 winn dixies, and a few Dollar Generals. Food is literally getting scarce, and if you want gas you better be prepared to wait in a long ass line. Stores and homes are being broken into. If it weren't for the National Guard and various charities,(bless yall) this place would be uninhabitable.
I can get online, but I have to hunt for a pound of fucking ground beef all over town, Hows that for irony? Never thought I'd see the day when people had money, but there was nothing to buy.
I've got elderly relatives who were in one of those beshitted hospitals in N.O., and were robbed right in the fucking hospital before being pulled out by boat. Amazing some crackhead didn't kill them for being white on top of that.
This is unfuckingreal, my head feels like it's floating above my body, especially when I see how huge this Rita is already. I hope to god the Texans have a much better plan than they did in N.O. or here in MS. God help you people in it's path.
It is really hard not to whine about the past few weeks. Fuck it, I'm whining, it's the worst thing I've ever seen, and yet I can count myself blessed for being able to be better prepared than most people. For having men around with guns to protect me, my mother, and aunt. Against guns? Get yourself into an area where people are being mugged for ice and gas, and you'll cherish your right to bear arms.
Knowing that more storms like these will continue for years, makes me want to blow chunks. Sorry for the rant. No, I'm not. There has been one good thing, in my life personally, that has come of all this: I never knew I could deal with as much as I have, be as physically and mentally strong when I needed to be. I rose to every occasion that I was given to deal with. It's true about what doesn't kill you making you stronger. I did things I had no idea were in me. You could all do it too, I'll bet. I hope you won't ever have to.
On a slightly lighter note: if you're ever without electricity and run out of candles and batteries (it happens, take my word), guess what? You can make an oil lamp out of a coffee cup, aluminum foil, ordinary vegetable/olive oil, and an unused Tampon.

good luck
the hysteria for this storm is ridiculous. Thanks to Katrina even here in Austin people are buying food and bottled water like there is no tomorrow. The grocery store was ridiculous when I went to get ketchup today.
Admittedly we're supposed to get Category 1 winds and a few power outages, but for FUCKS sake you bunch of sheep, Austin, TX is not below sea level. There are no levees.
That being said, everyone enjoy gas at 5 dollars a gallon for awhile (and fuck you Europeans with your whining "We've been paying that for years." Your country is also half the size of my state, so you dont have near as much driving to do.)

Cats, wherever you end up, make sure there is a computer. If you don't start posting again, I might lose my damn mind.
