Sitting at my desk at work with nothing much to do, I close my eyes and begin to experience the world from behind my eyelids.
><
Billie Holiday glides over to me and takes my hand, leading me into a smoky, intimate club, with the feel of friendship all around. I sit at a small table with a group of relaxed men, and order a whiskey, neat. I sip it as Billie walks onto the stage and begins to sing. I light a cigarette and watch the smoke swirl through the room, seeming to languidly keep time with her sensual voice as she caresses each note.
A gentleman walks up and inquires, would I like to dance? I answer yes, and he proffers a hand, with which he draws me up from my chair and glides me around the room. His hand is light as a feather on the small of my back, and his feet move with the grace of a cat.
Back in my chair, I simply sit and let the beauty of the music and the atmosphere wash over me, bathing me in contentment and laziness. I never want to leave....
><
As my phone begins to ring insistently, I reach over and switch off my CD player with a heavy sigh. Back to the real world.

I know, it is a bit thin... and honestly, I didn't take it any further becuase I don't know enough about the music or the time period to make it anything but general... I'd have to research a bit... maybe I will do that and rewrite this.

Midday reveries are nice, but this was a bit too thin, in my opinion. Flesh it out; make it stand and walk on its own. Make it something with hooks to pierce the reader and draw them in whether they want to or not.

In a weird, masochistic kind of way, this post and the one linked below are similar.

This was pretty bosh
I actually read it some time ago, but am only reviewing it now.
Dunno why I didn't rate the first time, I liked it both times I read it.

I adore Billie, especially "Stormy Weather," "Strange Fruit" "Stars Fell on Alabama"- our car tags have have that title-now-motto on them. I was just reading your last post, and clicked to see your others and found this. I've got to listen to her now. This post evokes many good memories. ++

I love Billie Holiday. Sounds like a wonderful place to go.
I drifted toward Compton yesterday while at my desk. Lovely.
