Bit long, but bear with me.... It's your life.

As always, the good old U.S. of A government is busy snooping away and trying to finish up with their plans to know every possible aspect of your pathetic life so that they can exploit you a little more and exert that extra bit of control on your freedom. Zig Heil Mr.Bush !

source: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=ptxt&s1=6,947,978&OS=6,947,978&RS=6,947,978

Above is the actual patent application, I have summarized for your viewing enjoyment.

The National Security Agency was granted a patent on September 20, 2005 for new technology that allows them to identify the physical location of any web surfer. My checks at the patent office indeed confirmed US Patent 6,947,978. The NSA's stated uses for the technology included "effectiveness of advertising across geographic regions."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method for geolocating logical network addresses

Abstract
Method for geolocating logical network addresses on electronically switched dynamic communications networks, such as the Internet, using the time latency of communications to and from the logical network address to determine its location. Minimum round-trip communications latency is measured between numerous stations on the network and known network addressed equipment to form a network latency topology map. Minimum round-trip communications latency is also measured between the stations and the logical network address to be geolocated. The resulting set of minimum round-trip communications latencies is then correlated with the network latency topology map to determine the location of the network address to be geolocated.

The NSA is one of the most secretive US agencies, and while they might use such an advancement to study the "effectiveness of advertising across geographic regions," or "flagging a password that could be noted or disabled if not used from or near the appropriate location," one has to wonder what is really up their sleeves.

A little thought into this yields a whole new barrage of possible uses. But what little protection anonymous proxy servers and confidentiality agreements with ISP's and the like offered the average Internet user will now disappear into thin air. The bottom line is if they want to, they can find out exactly where you are. No search warrant requests, no inquiries to ISP's, no nothing. Big Brother has finally broken through the last tier of privacy.

And as if all this isn't bad enough, it's not time to stop looking over your shoulder quite yet:

source: http://www.technewsworld.com/story/46177.html

Computer scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, have uncovered a new security, strength, a lower TCO: find out about all the advantages of IBM Middleware on Linux. Threat: a simple audio recording of keyboard clicks could betray the text you just entered, from passwords to secret love notes.

They are calling it "acoustical spying." Researchers were able to take several 10-minute sound recordings of users typing at a keyboard, feed the audio into a computer, and use an algorithm to recover up to 96 percent of the characters entered.

"It's a form of acoustical spying that should raise red flags among computer security and privacy Latest News about privacy experts," said Doug Tygar, UC Berkeley professor of computer science and information management Discover a better way to manage the business of IT with IBM Tivoli solutions and principal investigator of the study. "If we were able to figure this out, it's likely that people with less honorable intentions can -- or have -- as well."

Distinct Sounds

What makes the technique feasible is that each keystroke makes a relatively distinct sound, however subtle, when hit. Typical users type about 300 characters per minute, leaving enough time for a computer to isolate the sounds of individual keystrokes and categorize the letters based upon the statistical characteristics of English text. For example, the letters "th" will occur together more frequently than "tj," and the word "yet" is far more common than "yrg."

"Using statistical learning theory, the computer can categorize the sounds of each key as it's struck and develop a good first guess with an accuracy of 60 percent for characters, and 20 percent for words," said Li Zhuang, a UC Berkeley Ph.D. student in computer science and lead author of the study. "We then use spelling and grammar checks to refine the results, which increased the character accuracy to 70 percent and the word accuracy to 50 percent. The text is somewhat readable at this point."

Eliminating Errors

But that's not all. The recording is then played back repeatedly in a feedback loop to "train" the computer to increase its accuracy until no significant improvement is seen. In the UC Berkeley experiments, three feedback cycles were often enough to obtain recovery rates of 88 percent for words and 96 percent for characters.

Once the system is trained, recovering the text became more straightforward, even if the text was a password and not an English word. After just 20 attempts, the researchers were able to retrieve 90 percent of five-character passwords, 77 percent of eight-character passwords and 69 percent of 10-character passwords.

There are limitations to the technique, however. The researchers pointed out that they did not use the Shift, Control, Backspace or Caps Lock keys for their experiments, but describe approaches for training a program to account for those keystrokes as well. The ability to account for use of a computer mouse will be more challenging, the researchers said.

Nevertheless, the findings highlight a security hole that could be exploited and should be investigated, the researchers said. "The message from this study is that there is no easy escape from this acoustic snooping," said Tygar. "The type of keyboard you use doesn't matter, your typing proficiency doesn't matter and the background noise can be overcome."

God Bless the USA.

Then people have the nerve to ask for donations to help the Katrina victoms. Fuck! $200,000,000,000 isn't enough? Want my last $10 too? Ever watch a Ford Escalade drive-up to the medicare office, drop off a huge fat overfed pig for treatment? Wow, I wasn't aware that Bush = Hitler, or that Bush = the cause of everything.

How can you call Bush a moron, tool, idiot, etc. when he apparently not only invented hundreds of new ways to spy on people, but he also designed, built, and applied them, then personally put handcuffs on you for jacking off to kiddie porn.

I don't remember anyone accusing Clinton of being to blame for some guy applying for a patent.

Very repetitive photo montage, but I won't -2 it, because I recall having to make a hawk/dove political poster for my history class, so I photoshopped Osama's head onto Uncle Sam's body pointing at you saying "I want YOU to protest." People were quite offended by it. The teacher said I had done a good job, because the poster had done what it was supposed to - make a stir.

as far as the invasion of privacy addressed in this artice?

1. privacy is not a right. Security in your affects, papers, self, etc. are, but privacy is not.

2. doesn't make it right. Privacy should be a right.

3. How much power do you think Bush actually has? checks and balances people (meaning that you cannot unilaterally blame one person for all the world's troubles.

4. fuck off with the propoganda.

My point was not to raise a debate about what a republic is versus a democracy (I'm aware of the difference) but to assert that the US may have problems, but is comparatively better than everything else out there.

Also, as far as the Hitler/Bush thing, if you're going to make such comparisons, I'd recommend throwing Stalin or Mao in there for the privacy (or lack of) in their respective regimes, given the thrust of your post. Not that I agree with you, but still... in the interests of accuracy.

PS. I'm not an assclown. Have a nice day.

Rad,

1. Extended your borders ? Sorry as fuck man, just because you don't stick a flag in the ground and 'claim' the land for the USA doesn't mean you haven't taken it over or control it. Get a fucking clue. Like I said in a previous review, your government has seen what Hitler did and just taken a more subtle approach.

2. Hard to say. The government sponsored media whore hasn't shown you any of it, so it must not exist. After all, if it's not on TV - it's not official. Let's see now, speaking of the holocaust, which country was it that went out of their way to import all those 'sick fucking doctors and scientists' that operated under the Third Reich ? Oh right it's your fucking pristine nation that offered them all jobs in the top secret facilities. But I bet you were just looking out for their best interests right ? as the world's protectors and the great humanitarians ?
--------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't realize we were setting up leaders in other countries. If that were the case why would we have allowed so many pro-iranian representative to be elected in Iraq?

As far as media not showing it, please show me one news source that shows the US attempting genocide. Please find one, Al jazeera won't even make claims like that.
Sick fucking doctors that operated in the third reich? Most of the ones we took were jewish and left because they knew what was coming. The ones we took after the war were just regular scientists. We offered no asylum to people who worked in death camps or expiremented on prisoners there. Would have rathered they went to work for Russia?

I am still waiting for someone to tell me how there rights are being taken away by bush. If kerry would have been elected your rights would be exactly the same.

The only reason I'm gonna disagree is their character. Hitler was a genius and a great orator. Bush isn't. When Hitler ran the show, he controlled every aspect of his reich. With one person in control it's easier to conceive and execute a master plan (Final Solution... whatever).

Not only is Bush not the brightest president to ever grace the Oval Office, but the way shit is run nowadays most of stuff you think of as a conspiracy is really just coincidence. There are too many idiots and too much bureaucracy. The kind of complicated "lets take over the world" stuff just doesnt happen at that level and manage to be widespread.

Are there asshats out there fucking around? Sure. The CIA/Contra thing was a fucking embarassment, but it was only about a dozens asshats who knew they were being asshats... it wasnt the whole government. The soldiers underneathe them were just taking orders.

Why do many Americans find it so hard to believe that Bush maybe very similar to Hitler?

Hitler if he did not kill the jewish people would have been so similar to Bush in political agenda that it is stupid.

Those who consider looking at the similarities are just keeping an open mind and realising that although there are a differences... there are many similarities.

We're being told that it's either (a) inappropriate or (b) untrue to refer to Bush's illegitimate junta as Nazi, neo-Nazi or neofascist. Because, you know, you're not necessarily a Nazi just because you seize power like one, take advantage of a national Reichstag Fire-like tragedy like one, build concentration and death camps like one, start unprovoked wars like one, Red-bait your liberal opponents like one or create a national security apparatus that behaves like something a Nazi would create and even has a Nazi-sounding name.

All of those people who see a little Adolf in the not-so-bright eyes of America's homeland-grown despot are just imagining things.

Of course, there are differences. Hitler, for example, was legally elected. And he had a plan--not one that I like, but a plan--for the period after the war.

I'll be happy to stop comparing Bush to Hitler when he stops acting like him.

We can't listen to our people but Japan can, and Japan can't listen to thier people but France can, and France can't listen to their people but the US can, and the US can't listen to their people but Canada can. Ahh fuck it guys. Let's just all share what we got. Fucking spooky.

Unless YourNameIsTim. Then it's all quite flattering that the government would want to track his every movement.

Jesus Christ, Jack. You should know better. The NSA has nothing to do with identity theft. They have no charter to operate on US soil.

You wanna know what this is? Look up Echelon. Now go one step farther. This is the digital equivalent of a wiretap, without the need for a judge's order.

Go look up democracy. Wikipedia it or something. Read about how it works.

Now turn on the news.

You see the difference? We're a republic. And a terribly corrupt one at that.

Bush is just a tool to his fathers' oil corporations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I fully agree with you. I don't condone what Hitler did by any means, but he did pull off what few would be able to. He was a political genius and knew how to win a crowd over (or a country for that matter). Adolph had a very specific agenda, Bush has an agenda specifically laid out for him.

I don't compare the two in an even match up, more the sentiment of 'like evils'. Either way, one was a country run by a criminal and the other is run by a consortium of criminals. Hitler just wasn't as subtle. The Bush Bunch learned from his mistakes.

The Bush Bunch. 10 bucks says it's the next reality show on Fox.

That's the spirit, short-bus. Anyone who can think independantly is a crazy conspiracy nut.

Now did you come up with that all by your self or did your mommy help you ?

Or better yet is that what your administration has taught you to say so that you don't question any alterior, slightly (or blatantly) shady ideals that they force on you ?

Try a intelligent response next time, instead of the same regurgitated canned response that is used by assclowns such as yourself anytime the American Government is questioned.

Thank you, that pretty much sums up the spirit of the post.

Stabkill:

The post isn't about comparing Hitler to Bush. Yeah yeah yeah, the pictures. The point is that not only are the "American Ideals" being subverted and preverted beyond recognition, it is being done with full support by the government sponsored media brainwashed American public. To top it off, it's not enough to subvert your own culture, but then to force fundamentally flawed ideas on the rest of the world that are built on (for lack of a better word) conspiracy, is fucked.

You don't like the Hitler comparison ?

How about Rome ?

I do love how all the foreign fuckers and 18 year old wet-behind-the-ears types equate Bush to Hitler as if they lived in occupied Poland in 1943. Then you got George Soros feeding these fuckers lines to incite them even more... Now THAT is why you should love the USA.

I wonder in 2008 when the next election happens how our fascist government will collapse and quickly be replaced by a peaceful, wonderful government. Of course, if a republican gets elected again (and probably will), this arguement is mute because we are only a nazi-style regime with republicans in charge.

The pictures were just for fun, I was going to just do a SPT with them, but then decided you include the post.

I realize that Bush is not the major problem. It takes a lot of people to run a country (especially with as much clout as the US), and Bush is just the figurehead. Although the post isn't about Bush specifically, being the figurehead makes him the man to pin the blame on.

That being said, no one can deny that Bush himself has spearheaded some absolutely ridiculous initiatives himself (Patriot Act anyone?). I would get into the whole "electing a puppet" spiel but personally, I think it's been overdone and worn out.

The problem with this is that it's talking about shit that's going to be researched and used no matter who is president. This post is shitty because you're writing about stuff like it's a big deal when it's not all that surprising.

If you write about the tiny chips that are able to be implanted in your body and scary shit like that without talking about our idiot president, I think that'd be more interesting. All it is, is technology getting better, and people using it in a less than reputable manner. That's how it works, there's no way around it.

Now, if you're going to write an anti-Bush post, at least write about all the stupid shit he's responsible for. Don't write about increases in technological abilities, and then post a bunch of pictures showing how evil Bush is.

There is far too much to blame on Bush, for you to have to go and whine about this.

If they were going to use it like you htink why did they patent it?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the wright brothers patented their aircraft design, did they think that nuclear weapons would be dropped from it ?

When Edison patented the telephone, did he anticipate a massive intraweb through which banks and government databases could be infiltrated ? or for pedophiles like yourself to trade kiddie-porn ?

The point is, you can patent the idea without revealing the motive behind it.

Jack,

go back to reading your Tom Clancy novels where the American Mercenaries 'liberate the free world' and are the real heros by saving the world in the dark while we sleep. Fuck you. I hate to break this to you but it's your government that has royally fucked your entire societal latter for the last 200 years. You keep believing that the USA can do no wrong.

To clarify, I'm not talking about "USA the corporation", or "USA land of the free/brave". I'm talking about the USA that commits secret attrocities against the world and their own people in secret. A nice example would be the CIA flooding the streets with illicit drugs to fund even more illicit activities. Or is that just more tinfoil-hat talking?

I'd rather wear the tin-foil hat then your collective asshat, fucking clown.
