You all know the story. An African-American, high on PCP, is chased by cops in Los Angeles, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

The cops pull him over and he runs to attack one having been zapped twice by 50,000 volt tasers. However, Lawrence Powell struck him with his night stick and 3 other cops joined in. They hit him in total 56 times. So anyway, it goes to trial and a mainly white dury state that what the officers did was justified and rule them not guilty. Havoc breaks out in Los Angeles with massive riots, then Bush senior sets up a Federal trial with a Federal judge who convicts two of the officers involved in the incident. Also, in a law suit with the LAPD, King received $3.8 million in a law suit against the LAPD.

I'm not going to argue whether what the cops did was justifiable or not, as it is simply a matter of opinion and there is no point at all and will only waste time. There is no right or wrong answer.

So what has happened to Rodney King since then? Here's a little timeline I stumbled across on the internet (which actually sparked off this rant), and I'll credit http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/misc/rodney-king/ for it.

3 Mar 1991 LAPD beatdown.

29 Apr 1992 Rodney King Riot: (52 killed, 3,000 wounded)

1994 Receives $3.8M civil settlement from the City of Los Angeles.

1999 Convicted of spousal abuse, San Bernardino County.

29 Sep 2001 Police arrest Rodney King in Pomona, California for indecent exposure and being high on PCP.

Oct 2001 Pleads no contest to PCP and indency charges.

13 Apr 2003 Police arrest Rodney King in Rialto, California for crashing his Ford Expedition into a house while high on PCP. He suffers a fractured pelvis in the accident.

11 Oct 2003 Police arrest Rodney King in Rialto, California for punching his girlfriend in the stomach.

Currently, he is bankrupt and living in a drug rehab centre.

Now, even the most dedicated bleeding-heart liberal in the world will agree with me, that the $3.8 million dollars chucked at him was a complete waste of money. Did $3.8 million help this poor, struggling black man clear himself up and become a respectable member of society which is run by bad, racist white men in suits? Of course not. So much for the "poverty = crime" theory.

If I was a citizen of California, I would be very pissed off. Not only did the hard-working taxpayer pay for his trials, but they also paid, indirectly, for his PCP, Ford Expedition, drug rehab, his rap record business and the list goes on. It is also interesting to note, that I have been looking all over the internet for King's employment history and have all I have found is "King, a 25-year-old unemployed construction worker with two children" (http://www.churchoftrueisrael.com/nsforum/ns7-21.html). An unemployed construction worker? Ironic. Clearly this guy has not really contributed anything at all to society and has simply just taken.

Another point which concerns me; why wasn't he charged for fleeing from cops, speeding while high on PCP and attemtping to assault police officers on March 3, 1991? Has all the hype with the cops made people forget about charging him with these offenses?

Well, that's my rant for today.

America, the only place in the world where you can commit a couple of crimes, not get charged for one, get beaten up by cops you are about to attack, get paid $3.8 million for it then go on another spree of crimes. And let's not mention get paid by the system you abuse to live in a rehab center. I would liked to have seen what would of happened if King had lived in North Korea, or Nazi Germany.

this post is timely, if you didn't know, he was arrested AGAIN on Friday, for domestic violence.
The funny thing is, the guy practically has a get out of jail free card tattooed on his ass. He's constantly in trouble.

Sorry, man, but cops vow to "serve and protect". Sometimes that means to protect citizens from themselves. ie: Rodney on PCP King. Or drunk/stoned/pissed dumbass you and me.
I hate fucken cops. They're just trailer trash with power. oh yeh, billy clubs and electricity.

-----------------------------------------

They tried to protect him by pulling him over and telling him to get on the ground. They tried to protect him by tasering him. And they tried to protect him by knocking the bullshit out of him with night sticks, instead of shooting him.

You gotta admit, on the scale of bad taste, the 'gorillas in the mist' comment was in the red zone. But it was also pretty fucking funny.

The Rodney Dollars were more a warning to the Po-lice to stop beating the shit out of people.
Thanks for the Rodney update. Many times I find myself sitting around thinking "wonder what ever happened to old Rodney"...Not!
You got an update on Reginald Denny in your back pocket?

--

Reginald Denny turned chickenshit.

Forgiveness my ass.

Imagine the race wars that would have ignited if he went on TV and instead of being nice screamed, "Kill all the niggers!"

Damn.

I think I forgot to +2 last time.

"If I was a citizen of California, I would be very pissed ofF..."

--

I am. I was.

EVERY time that asswipe fucked up it was on the news here.

Goddamned idiot.

Here's the deal. It's very easy to understand.

Cop says, "Stop."

You stop.

Cop says, "Down on the ground."

You get down on the ground.

End of lesson.

The fucking riots took the cake. I'll never forget seeing an old black guy on the news, tears streaming down his face as his business went up in flames behind him and he said that his own people were burning down their own neighborhood.

Jesus Christ, even here in San Francisco the main shopping drag downtown, Market Street, got trashed.

And the more 'liberal' idiots in this country were surprised by what happened in New Orleans.

Hmmm. A PCP addict... a police beating only 1/2 caught on tape (what happened in the beginning to cause the beating?)... It makes perfect sense.

Liberals claim to be educated, but they are just as ignorant as the most religious right wing people they despise. The bleeding hearts cried for him and dismissed claims the police had that King appeared to be dusted (high on pcp). After numerous arrests later for the substance, who would dispute these cops now? They did taser his ass and he wasn't affected. Doesn't that tell one something is out of the ordinary?

Don't forget the part that the cops that took part in this were hung out to dry after those riots to avoid another incident of riots. Justice served, liberal-style.

I agree, I saw a thing on this whole ordeal and I didn't believe King at all, I was like "wtf he's lying! Duhhhh" But all the black guys in my class got pissed at me cuz they wuz thinkin' that them cops just beat a homie fo' no reason, and etc etc I'm bored. But yeah, King's an asshole who deserved all 56 blows. Give or take.

poverty = the lack of responsibility to handle any amount of money and that = crime no matter how much money you throw at it.

but I'm sure you knew that.

the timeline i found interesting and it saved you from a -2.
