Autumn is my favorite time of the year. I would say winter but Seattle only gets endless rainshowers during the winter time and the entire Puget Sound becomes a giant vortex of gray, dreary, and monotonous smears.

Some people like spring because it signifies the beginning of a new cycle, a rebirth. I like Autumn for the opposite reason; Death. Not so much as I am morbid but more along the lines of my belief that for every beginning there is an end. I get a slight sense of satisfaction like you get at the end of a project where you can sit back, fold your arms, and relax.

I love this season for so many reasons. The crisp cold air that that hits your nostrils when you walk outside early in the morning, often accompanied by a thin blanket of fog. The silence in the morning seems much more solemn when the fog is around, as all your senses become muted.

I love the early evening walks as the leaves makes crunching noises as you walk on the sidewalk. Every once in a while a gust of wind shoots pasts you and throws a whirlwind of leaves in the air. I almost forgot the leaves. Various shades of reds, yellows, and oranges lights up the foliage in seemingly perfect spots with a subtleness only nature can accomplish. It's even better when you have a nice hot mug of apple cider to enjoy the scenery.

To get a better autumn experience, I went on a hike yesterday since you can only see so much in the city. The place where I went to was about 5000 feet in elevation (thankfully most of the gain was by car). Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the views. A slight blanket of snow already covered the autumn foliage and the sky was clear giving me some visual access to some of the other mountains. The intense silence was only pierced by howling winds that struck the trees a few miles away. Call me a hippie, but I find it hard that any manmade creation can compare to this in terms of beauty.

So a quick question for you uberers. What is your favorite season and why?

those pics are awesome

autumn is my fave too. i live by the beach so the summer is full of tourists.... in the autumn the weather is so beautiful and everything takes on this still quiet.... and it's nice to go sit on the beach with sweats and a blanket with your honey when it gets cool out.

Autumn is my favorite season as well and for the same reasons, it just feels so good when you go outside on one of those cold, beautiful days. Ah... I've got some fond memories from autumn...

Autumn by far is my favorite season. I don't think there is anything in the world that can quite compare to the wonderful shades of red, orange, and yellow, the cool, dry air as you wake up and take a look outside, the variety of wildlife you see due to most of the foliage dying off: foxes, rabbits, deer, badgers, raccons, even the rare porcupine.

I have to agree on Autumn. I love the smells, especially when I get the hint of burning leaves in the air. It reminds me of being a teenager and drinking some nameless beer at a campfire in the woods while staring up at the stars and wishing that I was somewhere else. Autumn is a very nostalgic time of year. The pix are beautiful!

Interesting post.

I like summer the best. I grew up in Brisbane (Australia) which was warm all year round. Nothing is better than spending an entire summer wearing nothing but a pair of boardshorts, swimming, surfing, waiting for the afternoon storms.

I have a theory that people tend to be happier in warmer climates, and having lived in London for the last 18 months, I think I'm right.

You're American?
You say "Autumn", not "Fall"?

Winter's got to be my favourite. It's only spring here and I'm already sweating like Danny Devito.

Autumn definitely. You get the idea sometimes that it's England's natural state. Black fields, millions of Crows, lonely forests that are red and yellow and brown, fog on the hills. Reminds you of the olden days.

Sometimes I think summer is something that England wants to get over and done with pretty quickly, I mean it doesn't last very long for us and rains for most of the time.

Hey how poetic am I this morning!!

The best all day. I feel calm and somewhat like I have to pee.

Very nice.

Autumn. If you've ever walked through Iowa State's campus, you'll know why.

Although, summer is a close second, if only because of the sweet, sweet smell of freshly cut alfalfa.

Fucking gorgeous. Autumn is my favorite time of the year too, especially here in Florida since its still hot enough to swim and get sun, but not as hot/humid as florida summer when you fucking melt all day.

Great photos, once again.

Oh everything's cruel according to you. Keeping him chained us in the

cruel. Everything is cruel. So excuse me if I'm cruel.
