He told me the news sometime in early May 2005. He was going up to the hospital to get checked out and see why he had blood in his urine. Grandpa is what I call him but he is more of a Father than anything to me.
The results came back a few days later, not good, something on his kidney. They wanted to do an biopsy as soon as possible. I feel the fear in him as he relays the news.
Cancer, where did they come up with the name. Isn't it a zodiac sign, Not some awful disease? They take his kidney along with a sample from his lung. The fear is growing within the both of us just like the evil demon within him.
Fishing thats what will fix it all! I will take him fishing. What a beautiful day on the water. Memories are forever.
The benefit has come and gone, the trips to Tulsa are no more. Fear is no more, only pain.
My friend left me two weeks ago tomorrow. I got to the hospital too late. My Mothers sobbing filled the room as I walked in and took in the most horrible sight in my life, a grey shell, not the man I knew.
The day before my Mother and I went to see him. The last words he spoke to me were "bye Chuckles."
Someone tell me how to make it go away. I never ever said "I love you." It isn't fair for someone as great as him to leave.
My wife told me I am using his death as an excuse to drink. I never hated someone so much in my life as I did her that moment. Memories last forever and now thats all I have.
In Loving Memory of My Grandpa, he was my friend and one of the greatest to ever grace this earth.

I too never met either of my grandfathers. One was in the Battle of the Bulge and became a plumber when he came back. He at eggs, bacon and drank milk every morning for breakfast and had a heart attack in his early 50's. The other worked on death row in petersburg federal prison and died in his late 40's. Both would have had some kick ass stories. Now I'm left with pictures of them drinking beer down by the river while fishing. Good post though.

My condolences, may be rest in peace / be one with Allah / go up to the next caste / whatever your religion (if any) calls for.
Just remember that, even if there is no afterlife, he lives on. His memory is in the minds of all those he has affected, and his blood flows through your veins. Pass on whatever he has taught you; it wil make him immortal.

be glad you got a chance to say goodbye...or hello for that matter.
i never even got a chance to meet either of my grandfathers.
one died just before i was born, the other lost his legs in WWII behind a dragon's tooth. his life was miserable, but (my father tells me) he never complained. a few months after my grandmother died, he passed away too.
damn, now i'm depressed.
