The Five Points of Contention came into being and the portal flamed. Through the ring of unholy fire, Ed and Grace stepped out and into a small kitchen. With a flick of her wrist the Points spiraled into nothingness.
Immediately, Ed could smell it.
"Nuncio!" he called out.
Ed took Grace's hand and the slowly made their way out of the kitchen into the living room. The room was obvious with signs of a struggle. Two lamps lay on the floor broken and the coffee table was in shattered remains. A small desk in the corner of the room was turner on to its side, its contents spread all around the floor. Worse of all, a blood trail lead from the room down the hall.
"I can smell death, Ed," said Grace.
Ed nodded but said nothing.
They followed the trickle of red down the hall way, it's splatter growing as it went. The door to the bedroom was closed. Ed sighed when he got to it.
"We know he's dead," said Grace angrily.
"Yes," said Ed.
When they opened the door, even Grace, with all her years in Hell was shocked by the savagery that met their eyes.
Nuncio had been mutilated beyond reason. Strips of flesh had been torn from his body and laid out neatly in piles beside the bed. He had been opened up, disemboweled and his internal organs placed in a pile beside his flesh. The only way they knew it was Nuncio was from his face. His head had been severed and stuck in his empty abdomen. Dead pale blue eyes stared back at them. His face had not a drop of blood on it.
"Jesus fucking Christ!" swore Ed.
"I've... I've never known another human being that was capable of this. Only Demons. What are we dealing with here, Ed?" stammered Grace.
Ed was already on his cell phone to Maximillian.
The two of them spent the next few minutes going through what they could of Nuncio's personal things, trying to find what they could about the man. Anything that would lead them in the direction of the killer. Nuncio had led a very Spartan life. That, and he had seemed to definitely severed all ties he had had with his life in the Uhmbra.
Finally, the King of The Culling strolled in the door, looking very tired.
"I've been investigating every one of these murders. They're all quite gruesome, all involving mutilation, Ed. I don't think this one will be any different."
The three of them walked back into the bedroom and Max took a look at the body. He examined it with his eyes and his energies. As an aspect of Death, he was able to deduce certain things about these situations usually. But since these beings that were all being killed were creatures of the Uhmbra, his powers were being blocked.
"All I can tell you is this, " he said after a few minutes. "Your friend here was killed in a fashion much like the others, but his death lasted a bit longer than theirs. As if the killer was trying to get some thing out of him before he died. I have to say this, you two may be in danger."
"If anyone can take care of themselves, it us," said Grace a bit defensively.
"We don't know what we're up against here, Grace. This is something entirely alien to me. It can't be classified as 'evil.' It's not in your bag. I don't think it could even be construed as chaotic. This is something from outside the Archguard. You may have made a powerful enemy."
"At this point, I think it's even more imperative that we get to the Uhmbra. Someone is now killing Lucinda's people. She's going to have to want to know about this. We have to find another way there." said Ed.
"Put a call in to Gordhammer and Ess. See if their ship can pass through the Bleed to the Uhmbra. I know they usually play in the Outer Worlds, but maybe...", tried Grace.
"I will as soon as we get back, " interrupted Ed. " But there's someone else I want to talk to first."
"Who's that?" asked Maximillian.
"Gabriel. He knows something he's not telling."
"What gives you that idea?" asked Grace.
"He was very noncommittal about the whole affair when he at our little get together. That's not like him. He's usually very opinionated."
"He probably liked the idea of getting rid of me," scowled Grace.
"No, it was more than that," said Ed. "I think we need to go to Heaven."

The twists! The turns! It's like navigating through the small intestines! I hope you're keeping track of all your characters and subplots. I've found several conflicts in Noir that I have to explain, and I'm only dealing with one city and 8 parts so far.
You have your various realms of existence to stay on top of...I don't envy your task, but I continue to enjoy your work.

I also thought your post yesterday was fantastic. You could make it up to us by posting twice today though. Why don't you put PFF in the next one and have him mutilated and tortured, that would make me really happy! By the way this was another great installment but I demand more.

It certainly seems that it is going to be quite difficult to get into the Par Uhmbra now that Nuncio is gone. A very entertaining instalment. I think that I may have been a little hasty to say that your writing is episodic (not that I said that was a bad thing). It definately all seems to be coming together very nicely.

I was sort of pissed that I didn't get this one yesterday, but I thought the American post yesterday was amazing!

Thanks to everyone who let me get my little rant out yesterday on the Politics of Uber. I actually made most heated for once after 66 posts!!! A big thanks to Magic_Monkey, Dude that's BOSH, Ryu Fu, and Houseman for commenting on my fiction on that post. It means a lot to me that you guys enjoy my work enough to bitch at me when I don't post it...
