Previous Chapter - http://www.ubersite.com/m/76568
Grace and Ed were back at his place. She was in his bedroom changing clothes. She was at his place so much, he had graciously given over two of his dresser drawers to her to store some of her clothes in. Ed wanted her to move in, and although she practically lived with him as it was, she just couldn't take that final step. She still wanted a measure of freedom.
She pulled a thin black tee shirt out of the drawer and shook it free of wrinkles. She loved this shirt ever since she saw it in Vegas. Ironically, it had a big 666 on it with the words "TEAM SATAN" emblazoned on the back. If only the makers knew. She slipped off her jeans and into a pair of baggy army green cords. She pulled her heeled boots back on after changing socks, pausing only to hear Ed answer the door. She retied the boots as the voices in the living room grew louder. Grace sighed and went to see what was happening now.
"What do you mean, you can't take us!" yelled Ed.
"Just what I told you, boy! And stop shouting at me!" roared Gordhammer.
The Zombie Master came between the two of them and put his hands out.
"Enough, both of you. Ed, I've looked over the schematics of the ship with Ess. We just don't think the ship is capable of traveling through the Bleed to the Uhmbra."
"Then why did the Viking here tell me it was possible?" asked Ed.
"Because," hissed Ess, the reptilian captain of the ship, "We travel along the Bleed all the time to the Outer Worlds. It didn't seem that far fetched to assume that we could use the same trajectory to get you into the Uhmbra."
Grace came up to the Zombie Master. "Oliver, has anyone threatened you into refusing us?"
"No Princess. We honestly don't think the Pulse Ship can make it. Why would you ask such a thing?"
"We've been running into various... obstacles."
"Listen," said Gordhammer," I told you we could get you into the Uhmbra, and we may be able to - just not on the ship."
"Gord, is this wise?" asked Ess.
"Will take any idea you've got," said Ed.
"It's rumored that the Fey have a direct portal to the Uhmbra. It is their original homeworld after all. If you can find a Fairy Mound, they may be willing to help you, they may not. Your connection with Lucinda will help."
"Christ, if we could just get a message to her, she could send somebody to get us! I hadn't thought about the Fey," said Ed.
"They're notoriously wary of mortals," said Grace. "We'll really have to lean on our metaphysical aspects."
"Well, I guess we'll just have to..."
No one saw it coming.
That was when the house exploded.
Minutes past. Fire consumed much of the debris. Stone and planks of wood. Small pieces of metal here and there, pipes mostly. The tattered remains of furniture. Shards of glass and plastic turned to liquid in the heat.
Grace was born in fires far more devastating.
Her form shot up through the rubble, her face a mask of anger to cover the fear she felt deep inside. Ed. She called his name. She wouldn't let her voice waiver. Ed, she called again. She wouldn't let the tears come. Ed! She would find who did this and bring the full fury of the Infernal crashing down on them. ED!
She heard a familiar roar. Gordhammer. The Viking demigod would have been equally hard to kill. She traced the sound of his cries to find him carrying the body of Ess out of the flames.
"Is he..." she began.
"He's alive, but critical. I must get him back to the ship immediately."
"What about Ed! And The Zombie Master!"
"I am here Princess," came a hollow voice.
The spectral form of Oliver appeared. "My body was destroyed, but I am an immortal. I will piece together a new form."
"What about Ed!" cried Grace, her composure beginning to crack.
The Zombie Master and Gordhammer both smiled and nodded in the direction of the street. Grace spun to see Ed stumbling up in their way. He had not a scratch on him.
She raced to him, her tears freely coming now, wrapping her arms around him. Weeping, she told him much she loved him, how much she was worried, how much she was scarred, how much she would hurt him if he ever did that to her again.
"Chaos, honey," Ed explained. "It protects me, too."
They waived goodbye as the Pirates beamed out to their ship.
"Ed, I'm so sorry about your house," said Grace. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"Hopefully Ess will be, too."
"Gordhammer seemed to think the med team on the ship could help him," she said.
"We need to get out of here before the authorities arrive and start asking questions. We don't have time to waste on them."
"Ed, why bomb the house? Who do think the target was?"
"I don't know, Grace," said Ed. "Who ever it was had to know that an explosion wasn't about to harm you. Me maybe. Perhaps the Pirates. C'mon, let's get to your flat in Italy."
Grace called the Five Points of Contention and they stepped through the flaming portal. Walking into Grace's home, they found her father, Satan himself, and the Archangel Gabriel waiting there for them.

Maybe I was reading too fast, but I got confused as to how many people were in the house before it exploded -- and what's their connection to each other? A zombie lord, a viking, and a snakey-dude all sail on the same ship and need to talk to Ed at the same time for some reason?
Just a thought. Good work, again, jerkface.
