I love music. I love it to pieces. I would most likely go insane if it did not exist. Between my full 30 gb ipod that I listen to daily on the subway, my small mp3 player here at my desk at work, and my attic full of cassettes and tape decks, I enjoy music at all times. It relaxes me when I am enraged and it assuages any plights I have when I am miffed.
So that got me thinking. Top ten lists are too commonplace here on Ubersite. It's too easy to just spit out a number of favorites and think that people actually care about what you think. They are too....impersonal. So I tried to think about something else:
Fifteen albums. If I could only listen to fifteen albums for the rest of my life, what would they be? Granted, this took some though on my part as I am a huge fan of all things music. But still, I tried to delve deep into my brain and think about this. Here is what I came up with:

*** Alright - this is gonna get crazy, and many of you may hate me after this. Alas, I digress - it's time for my professional opinions:
First, I like this post - you listed some good stuff for sure, and some stuff I wanna check out that I've never really given a listen - you know, one of those bands that everyone knows but no one really listens to? Yeah - here goes my diatribe/criticism:

Another problem with it is that the Peppers were never meant to be old or sober. They have no business trying to write intelligent lyrics. They are stoned monkey morons who just happen to bring the funk like nobody's business. I don't want Anthony Keidis spouting off buddhist philosophy. The man invented wearing a tube sock over his dick on stage. Buddah he ain't.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
*** Ok - now this comment semi-bothers me. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are just as good being the funk machine they were, as being the melody making monster they are now. Their last album, By The Way, was a tremendous record full of sounds they had never made before. Just listening to all the layers song by song (especially John Frusciante's vocal parts - awesome!), gives you an appreciation for what is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and, in essence, Rick Rubin's pure genius. Now that they're off drugs (hah - for now?!), they can focus better on making the music what it's meant to be. Inspiration. Spiritual. Free-form creativity. But on the same hand, yeah, the lyrics are babble - but fun to sing along to at least. So in conclusion, they are a great band that has staying power - they just keep redefining their sound (yes, albeit somewhat changing), and progressing as individuals to form one group.

And for the record? Sevendust fucking blows. How the hell do you distinguish them from the 40,000 other bands that sound just like them? ASIDE from the fact that they've got a black dude. Seriously. Nothing new. Nothing interesitng. Nothing creative. Nothing difficult. Nothing of value.
--------------------------------------------
I guess I overrated your knowledge of music. If you can't tell Sevendust apart from the plethora of hard rock bands out there, you don't really have the musical ear I thought you did.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
*** Haha - this all makes me laugh...we're sitting here arguing about whether or not Sevendust sucks - hah! Sevendust DOES sound like a lot of other bands, true. Did they start that sound? Who cares. They suck. You should rethink your position as a occupant of this planet we call Earth.
Continuing...

You didn't ask for mine, but I'm a bastard and I'm going to list mine anyway.
My 15, completely different from yours.. so bite me:
Nevermore- ALL
Dragonlord- Rapture
Children Of Bodom- ALL
Megadeth- Rust In Peace (earlier albums in general)
Dream Theater- Change of Seasons/Images and Words
Queensryche- Operation Mindcrime
Helloween- Keeper of The Seven Keys Parts I and II
Testament- ALL
Pantera- ALL
Alice In Chains- ALL
Symphony X- V: The New Mythology Suite, basically ALL I Guess
That's probably more than fifteen, and I'm way too lazy to look through my CD's to pick my favorites and specifically name them, so chew on this Plus Two and Enjoy.

*** Ok whiplash - I'm joining you here now as a fan of most things metal/hardcore/experimental - whatever blending of any and all genres of those you can come up with - to some degree.
of the bands I've heard:
Children of Bodom = badass
Megadeth = badass
Dream Theater = insanely badass
Helloween = sweet haha, I love the "Just a Little Sign" video - it's so cheezy, that song is so catchy
Pantera = one of the best guitarists ever (Darryl Abbot)
Now - my list of noteworthy bands for people into metal and it's subgenres (I've been waiting for this kind of topic for a while now):
Rhapsody (Symphonic Epic Hollywood Metal) - Any album...I just bought "Power of the Dragonflame" and I love it - awesome riffs, sweet triumphant choruses, and lyrics that make you want to become a viking and/or mythical figure.
Ephel Duath (Prog-Jazz-Metal?) - I like "the Painter's Pallette" the best because of all the polyrhythms and bass work, but their first release, "rephormula" is a little edgier, with less experimentation as far as rhythms and structure goes. Good Italian band.
Necrophagist (Technical Brutal Death Metal) - "Onset of Putrefaction" is insane, to say the least - the flailing guitars, impeccable programmed drums, and grotesque vocals make this something you wanna keep away from children...that is, unless you want your children to become serial killers. This is good stuff for when you're pissed off at the world.
Between the Buried and Me (Jazz/Death Metal/Hardcore) - Each and every album put out by this amazing group amazes me again and again. The fluidity of their music is incomprehensible at times - they can go from a death metal romp to a soft, quiet singing part with ease - then back into the death metal with no warning whatsoever. The technical guitar parts laced with some fluttering retro-sounding melodies makes this band stand out amongst all the chug-chug bands of this day. All musicians are way above par in this group.
That's just an inkling of what's been in my CD player lately - if anyone likes what I said, feel free to e-mail me at thepilotepisode.at.yahoo.com for info on my group, which is more of a brutal metal band - but nonetheless, I like conversing with intelligent folk (preferrably with a musical background) about music and it's influences.

Finally got to see your list, image and all. Good stuff, man. But I gotta say... those 'illadelph jazz bars? They were smokey, sure, but there weren't cramped. They were empty. I used to book this stuff, Dalek, Plastic Little, and a number of Philly underground with some friends in seclusiasis and 215noise and no one ever came out.
Now Philly's all about grime, which is a shame, cause it's an aped scene from London. At least this gritty jazz-hop thing was our own...

Fudge - One Hot Minute is okay. The problem is, (or at least ONE of the problems) that One Hot Minute is NOT a Red Hot Chili Peppers album. It is the fourth and last Jane's Addiction album. (Pretending that Kettle Whistle and Strays never happened.) If you ever had any doubt how much influence Dave Navarro had on Jane's sound, listen to OHM. I always thought Jane's was all (and only) about Perry, but then I heard Porno for Pyros.
Another problem with it is that the Peppers were never meant to be old or sober. They have no business trying to write intelligent lyrics. sweet....enjoy the show. it sucks that concert season is almost over. i caught 15 shows over the past few months. the best being (obviously) the white stripes in coney island. the worst (unfortunately) being jack johnson at PNC Arts Center in Jersey. he really disappointed me. it would've been even worse if i wasn't stoned out of my skull.
I also caught Green Day at Giants Stadium. Aside from the 15 year old crowd, those fuckers know how to put together a live show.
dave matthews at randalls island was strictly for the girlfriend. luckily, i was stoned there as well.......ok, that was harsh, dave is OK...just not my favorite.
OHHHH....and if you get a chance, go see Matisyahu (orthodox jewish guy doing reggae). He's been touring with Trey Anastasio for a while now and is actually quite good.
my last concert will be next week when i see franz ferdinand at MSG. i'm REALLY looking forward to that one. i saw them last year at roseland and they kicked ass.

Badass --- true....but i am addicted to ball & biscuit. i could not go without hearing that every now and again. then again, hello operator is one damn kickass tune. as i said, every album he produces (including loretta lynns's latest) is pure gold. it was a tough choice.
and yes, i do listen to cky. they're pretty solid in my book. i just hope they don't go too mainstream on the coattails of Bam Margera.
john --- yep, there's a list there. check it out when you get home and let me know what you think.

I can only guess at what's on it based on what others are saying, but if you're really into the white stripes, yo u should check out Skip James and Mississippi Fred McDowell. They covered a few of their songs and much of their roots comes from them.

Ok, I KNEW the mars volta was going to brought up at some point. I have very mixed feelings about them/omar rodriguez-lopez. On one hand, I love them for their flat-out originality and eccentricity. On another, they are just very, very, very, very weird. I just don't get what they're trying to accomplish. And while I love trying to figure out their albums, they really seem different live (I saw them last year at Roseland in NYC)...their live show was lacking something contained in the albums.
Take 'Frances the Mute,' for example. An excellent follow up to 'De-loused.' Half the album is not music. It is just 'sound.' White noise. Spooky at times, actually. I feel as though they are trying to break into another realm of music which is as of yet undiscovered. Which I love. But I just don't fully understand it yet. Does that make sense? Are you picking up what I'm putting down here?
And I agree that Lou Reed is awesome. 'Perfect Day' is one of my all time favorite songs. Same goes with Velvet underground...awesome band.

Thanks for the kind words about my picks. It always irks me when I see a list of albums that are all in just one or two genres. THERE'S SO MUCH MUSIC out there. The last time there was one of these things, about top 5 or top 10 albums, eveyrone was listing nothing but metal. I LOVE metal. Slayer's Reign in Blood would be 19 or 20 on that list. But how can people listening to nothing but? The same applies to any genre... I used to chastize my orchestra-mates for listening to nothing but classical. how boring!

You didn't ask for people to put their own down, but I'm going to anyway. And yes, I know most of these are trash (or not "sophisticated" enough) but fuck you. Each of these albums goes into a large portion of the person I am. Whether that is because the music has influenced ME in that direction or whether it is merely a reflection of something already there, I don't know. All I know is that each one speaks to and for a part of me.
Jane's Addiction - "Jane's Addiction," "Nothing's Shocking," and the first half of "Ritual de lo Habitual." (If you've put these away, pull them back out - particularly the first two. I did recently and they are as relevant as ever. Thanks fathead.)
Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today
Decendents - Livage
Violent Femmes - Blister In the Sun
Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard In My Backyard
House of Pain - Fine Malt Lyrics
Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction (yeah there are other great ones, but I like this one best)
Counting Crows - August and Everything After (Yeah, well fuck you too.)
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile, Broken, Downward Spiral
Crystal Method - Vegas
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk, Uplift Mofo Party Plan
Over The Rhine - Good Dog Bad Dog - The Home Recordings

John...I mean, you can't say enough about Radiohead. Thom Yorke is some kind of sorcerer when it comes to putting music down on paper. I'd give the edge to 'Ok Computer,' though. but then again, it's just an opinion. Everyone has different tastes.
Talking heads were awesome.
Arcade Fire....ah yes, the odd bunch from Montreal. I saw them on Conan and bought funeral the next day. I DID like it....but it felt too...I don't know....short or curt or truncated....it lacked oomph.
Brian Wilson.....I wanted to put Pet Sounds up there, but I had too much to choose from and opted against it. He is amazing, though. And if you can believe it, I havent heard 'Smile' yet. I need to get on that.
White Album...honestly, it was a toos up between this and Abbey Road. The deciding factor for me was the fluidity of AR versus the choppiness of White Album. (which was supposed to be two albums anyway). Still both were insanely amazing.
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity....I've heard good things but have yet to listen to it.
and Bruce is awesome.

A 4th-grader could've looked up summaries on Amazon and done this. It'll get a ton of hits and positive reviews, though. Have a nice day!

I'm not giving you a plus two for your choices, per se...I don't believe in rewarding your opinions (Even though they coincide with mine 85%) But I liked how mixed your list was...beatles and White Stripes...and Greenday's Insomniac...Good job not picking the more mainstream Dookie. w00t.

I used to chastize my orchestra-mates for listening to nothing but classical. how boring!
Anyway, sorry to rant. Look forward to seeing other lists.
And for the record? Sevendust fucking blows. How the hell do you distinguish them from the 40,000 other bands that sound just like them? ASIDE from the fact that they've got a black dude. Seriously. Nothing new. Nothing interesitng. Nothing creative. Nothing difficult. Nothing of value.

Sublime - 40oz to Freedom
Was a good album, but was played way too much and I grew tired of it. After the album was 2 or 3 years old, everyone else discovered Smoke 2 Joints and it became the stoners anthem, although few stoners know it was originally a Bob Marley song.

That is my least favorite song by them on that album, but it was my favorite album, until like you said it got way over played.
I saw them play in Philly in a pretty small venue before brad died, and it fucking rocked.

FATMAN...yeah, it kills me when I hear Brainstew on the radio and they cut off Jaded. They are meant to go together. Ah well, so it goes.
Other albums that cam close were: Handsome Boy Modeling School "White People," Janis Joplin "Pearl," The Beatnuts "A Musical Massacre," Oasis "What's the Story (morning glory)," and David Bowie "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust."

Green Day - Brain Stew/Jaded
I remember hearing those played together, almost as if they were one song. After the album was no longer considered "New", they cut Jaded off and I was left with an empty feeling

I still enjoy Badfish though.

Prison Break will have new episodes starting in November. You haven't missed anything if you saw the governor's daughter sitting on the ambulance wondering about mold spraying...
This list of albums is very interesting. It's good to see someone who has such varied tastes.
One addition I would make: S.C.I.E.N.C.E. by Incubus
Check it out. From one music lover to another.
FYI - SEVENDUST'S NEW ALBUM, NEXT, WAS RELEASED ON 10/11/05
GOOD. SHIT.

anyone in the US want to explain to me what happened to prison break this week. I download the episodes and they are up to the hour every week, it appears it wasn't aired this week.
