The tragio-comic tale of Jack, Janet and Chrissy/Cindy/Teri shows us what society was like in the '70s and early '80s. An ongoing story of fear, bigotry, and paranoia, this show told us of an era where platonic relationships between men and women were unacceptable. Here this young man, Jack tripper, trying to scrape by in life while studying culinary art. He chooses to live with his friend Janet and get another roommate, Chrissy. They are hounded day after day, however, by their ultra-conservative, homophobic, bigoted landlord, Mr. Roper.
It is obvious that creators of this show were fighting these issues by making cartoon caricatures of both Mr. Roper, and Larry, the manly-man neighbor who always must sexually harrass women at the local dive, The Regal Beagle. I was saddened that things have not changed very much in our country. there are Larrys and Mr. Ropers everywhere. Let's just pray that the Jack, Janets and Chrissys of our world get a fair shake and survive any misunderstandings from overheard conversations. Thank you.

Mr Roper was funny as hell.....bigotry is funny as hell......I liked it when Barney Fiphe(sp?)was their landlord.
