This is more on family relationships and how they tie into teenagers. From what I know, teenage sexuality was a small minor issue in many societies of the past, except maybe in few circumstances. However, in the United States, it's a growing trend since the 60's. Kinsey's publication around the 50's noted that sexual encounters need to be present at younger ages (you could say marriage or sex outside marriage, that is up to your intrepretation of Kinsey's works). Many claim that this led to the sexual revolution of the 60's.
Case and point, I have problems with teen sexuality and how it apparent in this society. Now, for the following statistics before I go on. The Census Bureau estimated in 2002 that 50% of marriages that occured, ended up in divorce rates. Now, compare that to 1942, where it was found that 14% of women divorced. Doubled with the fact that between 1970 and 2002, the numbers of babies born outside marriage jumped from 11 to 30%. Now, what I see is that these results are in direct correlation to the sexual revolution.
The problem I want to point out, is that people are less willing to find "love" out there. They go through many marriages or relationships, where the meaning of loving someone is degraded. I talked to a marriage counselor the other day about this, and she mentioned that a lot of problems stems in the fact that many couples fail to solve their issues. The fact that you have this, you have weaker families. Weaker families result in parents not taking care of their children. Now, I know most of you might say that this is not true all the time, and I concede to that.
Kids are having sex left right and center, and this cycle continues to the next generation. This is in American culture. People celebrate sexuality. Many Americans can attest in this time that they have been in relationships outside marriage. Why can't people find true love and stick to it?
Why can't people solve their problems? This is a vicious cycle that continues to the next generation.
There are some other factors I want to take into account for teen sexuality. That is parent discipline. Discipline outside home, that is in schools. How can children run to the CPA, and tell them their parents are beating them, when they are only disciplining them? In a way, there are pro and cons to the CPA. However, the fact of the matter is that parents are left many times in todays times in difficult situations where they have difficulty solving problems of their children. It's getting harder and harder.
Before I propose a solution, here is a trend I see in the field of Medicine, which I am going into. Time magazine recently stated that doctors in the US are 50% more likely to be Buddhist. 10% are more likely to be Hindu. 5% are more likely to be Muslim. What do these three catagories have in common? They come from backgrounds that value family and they are immigrants. I am not talking about todays kids, I am talking about people who came in the 80's or 90's, who were not too influenced by American Culture too much. Now, you might ask what the hell these cultures have to do with medicine. Well you see, most doctors need family to get them through college and graduate school. Believe it or not, this is an expensive process. Not only that, students can not afford to work too much time outside school. They have to concentrate on their studies. All this is based on family support. There were a few other studies which I can't remember the numbers of, but it stated that students who had dinner with their family a few times a week, were more likely to go to a higher institute of learning.
Well, this might be some bitching and complaing from me, but I propose the following solution:
We need to focus on accelerating our education system. We are behind in the world in terms of education. By 16, people need to know basic college mathematics. Hell, in third world countries this is the case. We need to accelerate the way education is thaught. Secondly, this solves a few problems. People get a degree faster, which allows them to marry sooner. Again, this is a generalized trend I forsee, which might mean that there are less sexual encounters outside marriage since students are more focused on academics. We as a society need to find true love. Many have found. If we cared about our relationships, we would not cheat, or some other shit. You see, love life is not all about sex. Most people fail to realize that.
I know what I wrote contains broad generalizations but this is a Uber and I just wanted to get a feel for what people feel. Maybe I am wrong or maybe I am right?
Cheers!

The problem with teenagers is their family units, or lack thereof. Commitments/promises are too easily broken nowadays by parents.

Ok, here's the thing.
Back in 'the good ol' days' women who got divorced where ostracised. Also, young ladies of the time who where married to jackasses where granted a reprieve when said jackasses went to war and got shot.
In short, married people were fucking miserable because they felt trapped into their marriages by the social views of the time. We are now a little more liberated and don't call all divorcee's losers (not too their faces anyway).
The end result being that more people stay married for love than for duty or somesuch.
As far as education is concerned, well... I don't reckon you'd actually see that much change. You've got to accept that most people won't live as you would like. Trying to force people to live as you would like causes more problems than it solves.

If you ask me 'true love' is a much bigger distraction than when you last got your end away, not to mention how much of a distraction sexual frustration is!
It strikes me that you've just found a bunch of statistics, shaped them into a pretty pattern, then chucked them out there.

And also remember... in 1942 most people did NOT attend college.
Shit a lot of people didn't even graduate high school.

I do not feel that being sexually active at a young age is what is ruining this country.
Take my case personally. It can not be unique. My family has several children in close age ranges. There is 6 of us. The only reason I don't get funding for my school is that there is not enough money to go around. A lot of cases outside of my case that I've seen; families still support the education of there children greatly.
Another thing is that back in the early 20th century divorce was considered a shame. Couples would stay together despite horrendous problems just because of tradition. My extended family is just like this. Now my parents aren't, and I am happy they divorced. If they didn't they surely would have beaten eachother to death by now.
But I do agree we need to create a better learning environment for our students. I had a girl who was 20 years old the other day tell me she wants to be a math teacher. I was pleased as this is the same profession I'd like to get in. I asked her what level math she has reached and she looked at me puzzled. I asked if she has done Calculus... still a puzzled look. Trig?
"what's that?"
"Have you taken college fucking algebra?"
"That's the one with x's and y's... right?"
I hate America
