William H. Macy is from Cumberland, MD. Well, he was born somewhere in Florida, I think, but he grew up and graduated from highschool in Cumberland. That is where I was born and raised, until the age of 23 when I promptly got the fuck out and moved to a city to escape being sucked in forever only to end my life obese and on welfare. I, personally, think it's cool that I can associate Mr. Macy with my hometown. He's a superb actor who choses great movie roles.

He went to Allegany High School and graduated with my mother. He was the class president and everything. Also, he was in the drama club, of course. It's pretty awesome to see his picture in my mom's yearbook.

But this post isn't about William H. Macy. No, sir. It's about another talent that was spawned from my little hick town in the foothills of the Appalachians. This star shines so bright that only the Heavens would be suited to welcome him. I don't know if any of you have ever seen WarGames, but his performance was groundbreaking. A symbol of the 1980's... the dawn of classic teen movie characters everywhere...

Not Matthew Broderick, not Ally Sheedy (yes, I know she's not a 'he') but Mr. Eddie Deezen himself. I know! It's incredible! His parents own a jewelry store in our downtown.

Anyway, so anybody famous from ya'll's hometown?

Zakk Wylde (metal guitarist.. i'm pretty sure most on here know who he is)

Not sure if he's from the same town, but i know my music theory teacher taught him music theory, and he was in the highschool yearbook years ago. I thought my teacher was bluffing but a year later i actually met Zakk, and he confirmed the information. i was amazed that such a talented person could come from such a shitty place.

Kyra Sedgewick (sp?) is from my hometown. She played with my older brothers and sisters when they were little.

Vanessa Williams lives close by me, I bumped into her at Carvel a couple of years ago... Richard Gere served jury duty the same time as me, so he has to be close by too... hmmm... that's all the thinking I care to do on this subject.

Shit. I'm a born-and-raised Chicagoan, so I won't make you scroll THAT list, but I'll give you a list of famous people who went to my high school which is still way more kick-ass than any group from any other town:

Famous Former Mount Carmel High School Students

Me
Donovan McNabb--QB, Philadelphia Eagles
Simeon Rice--Defensive End, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Antawn Walker--Forward, Miami Heat
Chris Calloway--former NFL Wide Receiver (played the longest for the Giants)
Nate Turner--former Buffalo Bills star
Mike Husar--former Chicago Bear
Frank Cornish--Center on the '93 and '94 Superbowl Champion Dallas Cowboys
Chris Chelios--Defenseman, Detroit Red Wings (best Blackhawk Defenseman EVER!)
Matt Cushing--Tight End, Pittsburgh Steelers
Steve Edwards--Offensive Lineman, Chicago Bears
Darrell Hill--Wide Receiver, Kansas City Chiefs (Mt. Carmel has the second most current NFL players of any high school in the nation)
Kevin Cosgrove--Defensive Coordinator, University of Nebraska (and my dad's best friend)
Daniel Sunjata--actor, plays "Franco" on the FX show "Rescue Me" (best show going)
Steve Allen--founder of "The Tonight Show"
Denny McLain--former pitcher, Detroit Tigers (last pitcher to win 30 games in a season)
Joe Williams--wrestler who finished 5th in the 2004 Olympics (he and his brother, T.J., who also went to MC, are wrestling gods in Chicago and Iowa)
Lloyd Walton--former NBA player
Mario Morgan--played the kid in "Hard Ball" (w/Keanu Reeves) that makes the great catch in the big game

The movies "Blue Chips," "Rudy," and "Stir of Echoes" were also filmed there.

I could go on to celebrities from my neighborhood if you like.

Where I grew up (Marietta, GA): Brett Butler (comedian/alcoholic) and all the members of the band the Black Crowes.

Where I live now (Athens, GA): The bands R.E.M., The B52's, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Widespread Panic were all formed here. Although I don't think any of the members were actually "from" here. Maybe a few. Also, flash-in-the-pan white rapper Bubba Sparxxx started out here. He lived next door to one of my sorority sisters in 1999, and back then he had a bad habit of drunkenly crashing parties and exposing his tragically small penis.

William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia was from a village nearby (technically a suburb)

Roald Dahl is buried in a village nearby.

Terry Pratchett went to one of the local all boys Grammar Schools - John Hampden Grammar.

Oh, and John Hampden, English Civil War politician.

Oh and apparently, Brad Pitt has a house in a nearby village too... Same place as William Penn.
-----------
So all you've got is dead people and Terry Pratchett.

Now if you had Roald Dahl's daughter then that would be something. She is yummy.

--------------

She visits from time to time. Saw her once with the rest of her family at his grave, so there!

She's too fucking thin now, looks like a lollipop.

And don't forget Brad Pitt.
