All right.
So you posit that the Iranian government needs to be overthrown. In fact there is another reason for doing so, since the strength of Iran is the one solid reason keeping American troops in the mire that is Iraq (U.S. pulls out, Iran extends influence over large parts of Iraq, becomes the start of an Arab super-nation...it's a nightmare for the strategic thinkers of the world.)
Lets ignore for a minute the moral dimension of your suggestion (since that's the good ol' US way) and focus on practicalities.
Any move against Iran would result in retaliation from its allies Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt...in fact every Arab nation in the world would be drawn into the jihad. American forces, already overstretched in Afghanistan and Iraq, would find themselves involved in a ground war against fundamental extremists that they can't win. The world has already shown its reluctance to aid and abet the US's wars of aggression (or "pre-emptive defense" in Orwellian,) so you can't rely on the military strength of allies. I guess you're saying they should reinstate the draft. I hope you're looking forward to your time in the forces, son.
No? unacceptable to the American people? (thank god something is.)
So what? Pure air power doesn't win wars, that was proven in Vietnam and Kosovo.
Nuke it? Hmmm...irradiate the world's key energy reserves?

Now that I can agree with. Diplomacy, sanctions, carrot and stick is fine with me. The point of the post is it's time to do something. No one outside the US has the balls to stand up and do something. Even if the military is never used, radicals now understand it can happen. Not going to be a factor? The last two-terms president was a reformist. Even though he was slammed for failing to bring change, his language was a lot more moderate and so was his way of dealing with the nuclear issue.
Still, the US was constantly unsastified. Now that Iran has voted in a hardliner, maybe the US will have a real reason to be.

Establishing diplomatic ties would be one step. Occasionally criticizing Israel would be another. See I realize, unlike people like you, that criticizing something someone does allows them to still be an ally and a friend. Call them on it when they do something stupid, establish TRUE diplomatic ties with Iran, and try to work something out.
Of course, that doesn't involve the military, which is stretched perilously thin as it is, so I guess it is the "liberal pussy" way. My point, which you have glossed over so marvelously, is that overthrowing the current Iranian government is the same old fucked up foreign policy, so it's time to try something different. LIKE DIPLOMACY.

But outside of that, I really don't see how the US could be capable of taking on Iraq with it's already streched out military and unstable economy. With the world support maybe, but you pissed away after 9-11 with the way you handled Iraq.

To quickly address the issue, my psychotic friend Andy has come up with this plan: Remap and rename all the countries in the triangle with Turkey, Libya and Pakistan at the corners. In the center will be Blackglassistan, surrounded by Carcinomastan and then Nomansland as a buffer to the rest of the world. Won't have to do much painting of signs to rename "Libya" to "Dubya", while he's at it.
