An urgent e-mail went out to all the staff at my work this morning. Apparently, there was a catastrophic problem that happened last night. Here's a copy of the e-mail:
Good Morning,
It has come to my attention that we have a mouse problem in the S**** Library. Please keep all food in air tight containers such as "Gladware" or Zip lock baggies" or store it in the refrigerator. Get rid of all empty soda cans that may attract the mice. Clean up areas under desks that may be great spots for the sleeping critters. We need to put an all out effort in getting rid of the rodents, and if we work together with Physical Plant and the exterminator we can get a handle on this. I have placed a work order this morning to get the pest control company out to take action. (See below work order) I have mentioned the ground floor and the first floor but I suspect they are everywhere in the building. See attached picture that A**** took last night at the entrance near the trash cans.
If you have spotted droppings or have seen a mouse please let me know so when the exterminator comes out they can address that area.
Habits of Mice: Scientific Name - Mus musculus - "Little Thief": They are nibblers, they feed 18-25 times a day, seed eaters, do not need much water, nest almost anywhere, very curious, they only need 3/8" space to enter.

Library Facilities
Honestly, this is the most exciting thing that has happened since our fire drill last August. The security guards were happy to finally see a little action. I actually saw one of the rodents when I left last night, but I failed in my duties as "Building Emergency Staff" and didn't alert the proper authorities at once.
So now there's a rumor going around that one of the old ladies in technical services keeps bags of cat food in her desk to feed strays. I wonder if that could be the cause of this emergency?

I just moved into an apartment that has mice, something the landlord declined to tell me.
I've had to put out some mouse traps. It kinda sucks hearing the trap go SNAP, knowing some little mousey's neck or spine has just been shattered. And then you go over and see them struggling feebly in the trap, until the indefinable and unique light in their beady little eyes fades away.
And then you gotta remove the body and throw it out of the apartment through the window, hoping it doesn't land on anybody on the sidewalk below.
I hate mice.
