In case you havent noticed, Yes, we are the leaders of the free world. And sometimes a leader has to step into the ranks and knock some heads, for the good of the unit. If we didn't invade Iraq, this terrorism could have spread over half of the world, enveloping all free countries along the way. No matter how much you hate America, (and apparently support terrorism,) I don't think you would like it if an airplane crashed into YOUR office building, (or should I say fast-food joint?) and blew you up. Terrorism presents a very real threat to the civilized world, and I for one, wholeheartedly support Bush in his invasion of Iraq. It had to be done. Now shut the fuck up with your American bashing.

You're thinking of Afghanistan... which was populated by the Taliban (and Al Queda)... I thought the US invasion of Iraq was all about WMDs (that were never found because they weren't there.) and oil, not terrorism at all! It was more about removing the current leader and replacing it with someone who would be easier to control from the western seats of power.
The invasion of Iraq was NOT necessary because sooner or later the population would have revolted against Sadam. It may have take 10 years, it might have taken 50, but it would have been the peoples choice. You can't come into a country that's half a world away, remove their leader, replace it with one of your choice and expect the whole population to thank you. Removal of Sadam should have been done by the Iraqi people.

I think the current american administration is bullshit, and if they loose the war (very unlikely) some members of that administration would end up in Den Haag.

Indoninja: The economy isn't real in the sense that all debt can be wiped away at the snap of a finger. The economy is as much about who has the guns as who has the gold. This is the point many of you seem to be missing. I'm not saying I'm gonna start looting as a profession any time soon, or that I'm gonna move to the woods and escape the world of man, (which, while possible, is getting increasingly more difficult), but the truth of what I say is there nonetheless. You might say it's impractical when you're trying to raise a family and just live from one day to the next, and I'll agree with that. It's not like this piece of knowledge is necessarily gonna help you much or change a goddamn thing as far as you're concerned, but it's there whether you realize it or not.
It's kinda like discovering a star in a cluster at the edge of the galaxy. It might not have any immediate effect on us, but that doesn't change the fact that it's there.

As James worked a corner selling people the drugs they want, one of the people from the mafia spyed upon him and noticed that bits of money was being pocketed and the rest placed into an envelope. He was busted on the spot. The spy left to tell the boss what he seen and the boss didn't liked what he heard. He didn't like that he wasn't being paid in full. He didn't like people whom backstabbed him. After James worked the corner, he headed to the Riverside Warehouses to deliever the money he made, unknowning that the boss and few of is helpers awaited him.
As James approached the boss to deliver the cash, his helpers grab him by the arms. "Tsk tsk tsk" said the boss, "I have warned you plenty of times James, that if I catch you stealing from me, that you would pay the price."
"I don't know what you are talking about. The money is all there." said James.
"Oh really?...Then explain why one of my people watched you for over an hour, stealing money from me." said the boss. "James, I have caught you, and now you must sleep with the fishies. Get him out of my sight."
"Nooooooo!!! Please! Give me another chance!" screamed James as he was dragged out of the warehouse and off to the docks... James was warned that he should have paid in full, but now he has been delivered to his grave, he paid in full, with his life.

Look, all you Canadians, Brits, Aussies, and Scots are just going to have to be patient for a while until our next election. You are on the right track, but consider this:
We pay for those imports with dollars, and then the other countries (mostly China) holds those dollars. We have a huge national debt... BUT the debt is in dollars. If you make the dollar worth less, then the debt itself becomes indirectly smaller.
Like I said, it's only one thing he's done right... just a piece of the right economic policy for this country. If his administration were to manage to get a handful of other things right our economy could be in amazing shape, instead of just barely recovered from the slip we had.

Basically the dollar has fallen in value 30% over the last couple years. This has allowed American business to be more competitive and helped slow/stop/reverse the recession. I'm not saying that we will always benefit from a low value dollar, but it is currently very good for us. Our debt is relatively less than it would be, our businesses are doing better than they would be, and basically we are getting imported goods dirt cheap -- and this has been even more the case now that our number one trade partner, the Chinese, are floating their currency (which has risen in value).
Is inflation a concern? Well, not as much as many would say/think. There are more factors than just the strength of the dollar involved in inflation, such as interest rates. You'll notice that while the dollar was devaluing interest rates were at an all time low, but the second inflation started to rise above the general average level of around 2.5% the Fed began increasing them. Inflation is currently being held at a reasonable level, and if that changes there are more things we can do without sacrificing our gains through low dollar value.
For the sake of comparison let's look at the strength of the Euro and how it has affected Germany's economy. Euro countries have seen the horrors of hyperinflation (after each world war), and because of this they fight tooth and nail against basically any inflation at all in the Euro. The side effect of this has been the Euro gaining a lot of value. Germany recently entered it's first recession since 1993. It's industries are no longer competitive with their counterparts from other countries, especially the US ones. It costs them too much to produce relative to us.
Essentially our lowered valued dollar has forced other countries like Germany and China to foot the bill of our recession.

You are on the right track, but consider this:
We pay for those imports with dollars, and then the other countries (mostly China) holds those dollars. We have a huge national debt... BUT the debt is in dollars. If you make the dollar worth less, then the debt itself becomes indirectly smaller.
Like I said, it's only one thing he's done right... just a piece of the right economic policy for this country. If his administration were to manage to get a handful of other things right our economy could be in amazing shape, instead of just barely recovered from the slip we had.

A weaker dollar would mean what you are exporting would be worth less to you (though you might get more business) and your import price would rise.
Now, I'm sure you'll say that Import/Export isn't the only area the dollar value effects, but they aren't going to fill up that 800 billion dollar gap.

Most of our demographic, of course, will protect and project what was GIVEN to us by:
The Great Generation
They were the one's who went thru 3 wars and a crippling depression.

made sure that our (BB's) table was set and FULL of food.
It seems to me that my generation has not provided enough for the X(?)generation.
I think that's why we're sometimes referred to as the 'lost' generation.
