Not many people do it. Most people think it's for the weak, or for people so imbued with their own trivial bullshit that they think there's something wrong, not to mention that sordid dark-side-of-Hollywood stereotype about it. Whatever; I don't see it that way. I prefer to think of it as one of my quirks, one more peculiarity that makes me, me.
I guess I started out of the combination of homesickness and loneliness and all that other emo shit. I think it was originally just about trying something new, because nothing else was working, and what people say is addiction is really just the need to patch the aching. You could liken it to a night of hitting the bars; something so there'll be no more "AHHHHHHH!" for a while, even though afterward you may feel a little sick. It keeps me going for the show, as it were.
I can see my face in the mirror. Hollow, nobody home. I'm feeling down, you can see it. But I can ease that pain and get myself back on my feet again. I rummage around in the medicine cabinet until I find what I need; a few small vials of clear liquid, labeled "Thiopental Sodium," and a few syringes. I got it all from the cabinet at the vet's office I work at. Draw some liquid out of the vial, rub an alcohol pad on my arm, let it dry.
It's pretty surreal, sticking myself with a needle, but I try to relax, realize it's just a little pinprick. And then I go back to my bed. Pretty soon...there's no more pain, everything is receding. As I close my eyes, I see everything coming through in waves.
I have become comfortably numb.

I love that song, but call me crazy, I still thought Division Bell (1994) was Pink Floyd's best. Not only did I like it but I remember it coming out and buying it.

Oh no, I don't actually shoot up; I have a therapist. I wanted to do a post on Comfortably Numb for a while, but I figured it would be rather dull to have a post about my therapy sessions, so in the end it was between a guy cutting and a guy doing barbiturates. You hear more about cutting than you do barbiturate abuse anymore, so in the end that's what I used.
------------------------------
The thing is, you could tell it was made up and it didn't fit in with your piece.
This needs some serious reworking, but it has potential.
Nobody before him thought this was bullshit, and I'm thinking that you wouldn't have mentioned it either, had he not said anything.

I just felt like commenting on this. Feel free to ignore. But..I think that there comes a point in everyone's life where we realize that we're not in control of anything. When this realization happens, some people go to church, some people go to therapy, some people hit the bottle or the needle, still others develop a mental/personality disorder. Its true that you have to hit rock bottom before healing begins.

This song depresses me. But in a good way, if that makes sense.

Eh, I think you drew just a bit too much from the inspiration. But then again, I have no room to speak today.
