So, in case you don't know, there's a constitutional amendment on the ballot in the state of Texas next week (Nov. 8) called Proposition 2. It's an amendment to ban gay marriage.
Feel as you like about that proposition, but in support of this, and Christian values, the Ku Klux Klan is holding a rally at Austin city hall tomorrow morning. This building is adjacent from my apartment complex.
Calling all Austinites: there will be bloody maries served chez moi tomorrow from 10-3pm; however, if you come be prepared to drink for 5 hours b/c they're closing off traffic from all surrounding streets, which means, among other things, that I can't leave my parking garage. In consequence, all attendees are expected to not spill their drinks on my floor 7 balcony but off of it. Why Austin of all cities? Anyone who lives here will tell you, it's just a fucking moronic place to schedule this. Isn't there more space in trailer parks? I'm definitely painting a white sheet with the words "KKK is Homo" and affixing it to my balcony railing. That will be how you can find the free booze.
So, like Republicans, the Klan is using Christianity to oppose civil rights. Great agenda they're working on together. Doesn't it make you proud? I have a feeling the KKK's support of this proposition will mostly just make people not want to vote for it b/c they have such a negative opinion of the Klan. I'm interested to see what the proportion of KKK to anti-KKK protesters will be. Knowing Austin, I have a feeling the latter will have far greater representation. Which means, of course, that people will be arrested. Likely not the guys in costumes either.
And a note to people with well intentioned protests: schedule protests during voting to have any effect. This is just stupid. I support free speech, but not when I can't move my car as a result of it or have to give up a Saturday thinking about a sect of people that I'd rather ignore altogether.
