I write as I savor a bottle of Theakston's 'Old Peculier' Ale. It's imported to me in the US from T.V.R. Theakston, Ltd, of Masham, England, according to the text on the label.

I have traveled a bit and have sampled some 2000 different labels from around the world, and by 'around the world' I mean every continent save Antarctica. I brew my own beer (thank you Jimmy Carter) on occasion because it is good to do so. I have tasted good beers, bad beers, very bad beers, and innumerable 'meh' beers from here, there, and everywhere. I can brew a decent beer and I can tell the difference between good and bad product.

Because I am an American, some readers may take the next statement as an insult or display of ignorance, but nevertheless I will make it: Old Peculier Is Really Good Beer.

Any of you who just thought "Pah! There are much better pints to pull than that slop!"; this post is directed at you. I ask for your expertise.

What label would you suggest I pursue obtaining? Doesn't matter where it's from, just let me know the name and place of origin. If there are legitimate responses to this I will look into getting several of them for sampling. Might even post a review. I'd be interested in being inebriated by your suggestions.

To show that I'm serious, here's a pic of a bottle of soda I got from South Africa when challenged to find the most-caffeinated drink you could buy.

Turbodog is from Abita Springs brewery, about thirty minutes above New Orleans. All their stuff is good. I don't really like fruity or flavored beer, but their attempt at this is even good. Purple Haze, it's their raspberry brew, it's not sugary, just adds a nice aroma to the brew.

OK, here is a list the ones (so far) I haven't had and will make an attempt to find:

Baltika from Russia.
Dark Island.
Stella - belguim.
Costa Rica......Imperial
Argentina.......Quilmes
La Fin Du Mond, I think Quebec
Lefe; Belgian
dogfish head 90 minute IPA.
dogfish head 120 minute
New Belgium Brewing Company's Birre de Mars.
Unibroue.

A friend brought several bottles of Budweiser Budvar back from a European trip and he kindly gave me one to sample. I can see why Anheiser-Busch decided to base their Buttwiper on that - it's good. Buttwiper IMO, not so much.

And the Coors Light. I think I saw that movie, back in the '80s right?

Thanks for all the help.

There is a bar in London called the Porterhouse which has something like 200 different beers from around the world for sale. I love that bar.

My favourites are Zyweicz (spelling?) from Poland, and Baltika from Russia. I tell you, Eastern European beer is very under rated, it's almost as good as the Belgian/German stuff. Paulaner is my favourite German beer.

Theakstons is the good shit. 'Ode to the mashman' as it says, with the little chap in the funny hat huffing on a bong.

I'm no expert, but I do reccomend Dark Island. It's actually a stout but I swear to God almighty himself (who pities the fool) that it is the nicest thing I have ever supped on.

TurboDog; I believe N'Orleans
Lefe; Belgian
Hacker-Pschorr; German?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a feeling TurboDog may be a bit hard to get ahold of for the time being.

I recommend "Coors Light" from some little known country called "Colorado".

If you can find this rare brew, let me know because I too, am interested in obtaining some.

I'll pay upwards of $11.99 a case for it. """

well it just goes to show, throw enough shit and some of it WILL stick.

That was mildly amusing jeffrey.

Yuengling brews some serious suds. From Pennsylvania, US. Been around forever and got me through college as I lived in the town where the brewery is.

Also, about 25 years ago, I bartended in a joint that had a "Beer of the World" club...you know, drink 100 beers from around the world in 100 days and get a fucking t-shirt and your name on the wall...that kind of thing....

I did it in about 14 days - I didn't know we were in a fucking race - and some guy did it in like 11 days and hit the newspapers....anyway, the worst swill out of the 100, which included at least 30-40 domestics, BTW, was some shit from somewhere in Africa called "EKU".

It tasted like fucking terpentine and had a higher proof than Wild Turkey if I remember correctly.

Ever heard of it?

Theakson's is good shit - I had a buddy from Bolton who swore by it.

My favorite beer is Steinlager, from New Zealand. Crisp, hoppy flavor.

I see that Afri-Cola at Cost Plus World Market all the time - it's not that great, in my opinion....

It's technically a lager, but...

Budvar - the true Czech Budweiser absolutely kicks ass. Try that and realise why the Europeans look at American 'beer' with disbelieve

Auto +2 for beer.
Try Unibroue. They make a few different kinds, every one I have had is really good beer.
Also Frambroise. Raspberry beer. Delicious.

See these? American donuts. Glazed, powdered, and raspberry-filled.
