Same here. MySQL can sort the data, but I think the Excel is written with
Visual Basic. Filthyassistant seems to know much more about that crap than I do. . .
===
You can do an SQL query in excel through the enormous blubbering gash that is 'Microsoft Query', but it's marginally less entertaining than waxing a hobo's bikini line.

Caul, Cobol is used just as you say, in the business world on old mainframes.
Hell, Fortran is old, too, but it is still used. Having a rare skill is a
wonderful thing. Glad it makes you some bucks. . .

I work in COBOL! It might be outdated, but my paychecks beat yours! :-)
_________________________________________________________________________
Right. I'm sure you have documented evidence to prove your claim.
====
I'm assuming my paycheck is bigger than other people who work in computers - in my range of age.
Cobol is an old outdated language on Mainframe platforms that are too stable and powerful to be replaced, yet. It is usually used in the biggest corporations (banking, insurances, and such...) School have stopped teaching it a while ago so there is no replacement, no one below thirty anyway. I ended up learning it because of weird circumstances.
So while my 20-something friends struggle to find a job so they can work in fun languages like VB and shit at 15$/hour, I work on this boring 50 years old shit at a pretty decent salary and the demand for young progarmmers in this particular expertise is steadily growing (out of hundreds of people I worked with, two were in the twenties...which means more dough for me eventually! :-))
But I wasn't bragging. I was more pointing out the fact that I work in ancient boring shit.

Cool, not only has a database acknowledged my no-longer-pointless existence, but I suck less than other people.
I'm not the biggest loser on this site, hooray for me!
I stopped posting and started lurking long ago, for the better of Ubersite.

A few ways to tidy up the excel thing:
* Select row 2. Window | Freeze panes --> ensures the column headings are always in view
* Change the '% Hits from B@W' formulas to =IF(ISERROR(D2*100/E2),0,D2*100/E2) --> it performs exactly the same calculation but will replace the value with 0 if the formula results in one of those ugly #DIV/0! errors
* Select row 1. Data | Filter | Autofilter --> notice the arrows? Piss around with them.
* The world's easiest graph - select a block of cells from columns C & D. Hit the F11 key. Nifty, huh?
* Delete sheets 2 & 3 and rename sheet 1 to something that makes sense. Yes, I know. Just do it. It's important to me.
* If you typed or copy and pasted this data in, delete it all. Data | Import External Data | New Web Query. Kick yourself.
There's more but we'd be getting into vba territory and half ten on a friday when I've just finished a 13 hour shift is not the time.
--------------------------------------
Cool. thanks.
I've been messing around with this, and I'd like to come up with a way where it would be automated and self-updating. The web query stuff is interesting. There would have to be some way to sort through all the data of the query and extract only the parts you're interested in though.

I saw slipknot earlier this year, it's pretty good stuff.
I'm sure the drum kit is triggered though, like when I saw Fear Factory in Holland, there's just noway human legs can create that double kick tornado without some techno help.
That being said, Vinny Paul did a drum seminar in Edmonton a few years back and his fat feet actually could do that.
Where does this leave me?

Itchy isn't an "alter" in the traditional sense.
I got tired of the Uber game (rank your friends with a +2 and expect the same in return) and I got tired of people expecting a certain style of post from me.
So. I killed off an account. I went underground and started fresh with what was supposed to be the REAL me. (When I started as itchy, I just wanted people to like me and think I was funny.)
Of course, BartBart has never officially killed off the account, perhaps because I've been fairly open about the change of name. As a result, it is still there if I ever need it to post something in relative obscurity (these days) or to kill an undeserved Teephphah +2 streak.
What I find really weird is that you don't remember that YOU were somewhat instrumental in the downfall of itchy. (See: http://www.ubersite.com/m/38317#652237 - the next to last "official" itchy post - Mostly the Toddfather though.) I just was getting tired of Uber back then, arguing with all the N00bs (who now have more hits than me) and decided it was time for a change.

I think it's really interesting when you add up each author's percentages of their total hits and see how much B@W helped them get where they are. Not saying they don't deserve to be there... It's just fun to play with the numbers and compare.

One thing you have to keep in mind if you're using the link at the bottom is, UberMadness is like #5 or something on the MVA, so you have to skip that one to get an accurate count.
Also, Kai and Professorfuckface were removed from the official MVA on the homepage, but they are still in that table, so depending on whether or not you count them, you could get a different number.

I recommend checking out the Excel file if you have Excel.
It's got more information than the others files in that zip folder.

The following files were compiled from data on all Bored at Work posts by ubersite users on November 09, 2005.
The included files are as follows:
Access Database: The Access file will allow you to make queries and sort the information.
Just open the file in either Access 97 or Access XP (both are included) and open the "Bored
at Work Post Stats" table.
Excel Spreadsheet: Same data as in the Access file, but in Excel spreadsheet, and with an added bonus.
A new column that calculates the percentage of an author's hits that have come from B@W posts has been added.
Sort information, create graphs, edit the cells, add new columns of information. Update the information.
Word: Word file containing cells of information. (The table is too big to print on standard paper, so some resizing will
need to be done in order to print from this file. This is the least attractive of all the included files, but the one most
people will be able to see.
If you have any questions, or need support on any of these files, you can just blow me, cause what do I look like...
someone who knows anything about any of this shit?
Enjoy!
**BONUS**
Find out where you are on MVA!!!
