A light blue sky with soft wafting clouds that look as if they have been airbrushed on acts as a background to a hustling street corner. Cars and trucks, bikes and motorcycles zip to and fro, a pedestrian's nightmare.
On one street corner, things are a little quieter. Small groups of two or three people sit at several tables outside a coffee shop. A young couple quietly necks by their car before leaving as two older lovers arrive.
At one table sit two women who seem to share the same face. One has creases and crows feet, gray hair, and simple clothing. The other is young and vibrant, with shiny blond hair and the newest fashions. A mother and daughter enjoying a cup of iced coffee and each others company as a cool breeze softens the harshness of the sun on a warm Florida winters day.
Inside the coffee shop, soft jazz and quiet conversation fill the room. People line up to get their drinks as others sit and mind their business. A man in blue jeans and a polo shirt stares intently at a book, marking notes in the margin as he goes along. A young woman is taking a slightly more high-tech approach to learning as she quietly taps at the keyboard of her laptop computer.
All is serene in high contrast to the honking of horns and smell of exhaust that seems to define the street corner outside. Two different worlds that somehow seem to mix seamlessly like the cream in my coffee.
