So it seems I've fallen on hard times and must return to the job I never wanted in the first place. In two hours, I will once again be an employee for Marriott hotels. I want to die. Although, I won't be working night shift this time, I'm sure I'll be able to share some adventures.
Do you all have jobs that you enjoy? What are they? I'd love to know, because I absolutely despise working. I have yet to "like my job." And I've had plenty of jobs that could've proven themselves as decent places to work. I don't like to be under someone else's rule for 8 hours of my day. It's torturous. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I'm curious to know if any of you have found peace.
I'm in school now, trying to fix this problem, but I'm constantly unsure about whether or not I'm making the right choices. The correct major, career path, decisions in general. Ideally, I'd like to run my own business. Difficult, expensive, risky... blah blah. But at least I would be in control. Being a grownup sucks ass.
I don't wanna go!

I hate my fucking job. I hate every single fucking person that I work with. They're all assholes who love to hear themselves talk about how great and wonderful they are.
Right now I'm sitting at my desk and it feels like I'm sitting in a casket. Although right now, I'm not doing my job, but filling out an application for grad school so that I can get an advanced degree and be able to do something that I would enjoy more.
We're young. I think we aren't supposed to be happy with our jobs because we don't know what the hell we're doing.

Good question.
I too hope to run my own business some day.
I think the degree which would help in doing that the most would be an accounts based degree. You'd learn the fundamentals which keep a business running without going bankrupt ie cash flow, budgeting etc etc.
One thing I don't understand is when people say starting a business is risky. What exactly are the risks? Worst case scenario is that you struggle for a couple of years, the business dies and you have to work for a living. The only things you risk are material goods and perhaps the integrity of your credit rating.

Siren, this post made me happy -- er, kinda. I don't hate my job(s); I wouldn't work them if I did. But I've never really loved my job. I don't really like working. This makes it really hard to get motivated to find a great job because really my dream job is to marry a rich broad so I have time to do what I want in between interludes of servicing her sexually.
I recently started tending bar on the side. I'm liking it so far.

Pharmacy!
Although school is mightly long (6 years) and difficult (maintaining a 3.7 GPA). But the doctorate degree and the pay (100K starting pay when I graduate) makes it a bit easier.

Weeping. It's the same as it always is. It's the same first day I've gone through about a dozen times. You know the tune. Going back to work now...

My earliest posts sing a similar tune. I used to work for a mega-global media corporation. The very feeling of my soul being sucked out of me each time I walked into the place was enough to make me realize that I'd rather spend my life in a box in an alleyway than making other people rich with my own creativity.
Since then, I've started my own business. It is difficult, and it is risky, but you know what? I wake up smiling, and not just on account of what I dreamed about.

I love my job. I'm in radio.
Actually, I love it because they pay me a lot of money.
Other than that I have no interest in working whatsoever.
Your job sounds like it blows.

Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that.

I bitch, but I generally enjoy reporting and (some) editing. Feels like a dead-end industry, though. Last week, I had to hire a freelance photographer for a story in Birmingham, Ala. She used to work for a Scripps paper there; but they shut the paper down a month ago and fired the entire staff ... with 12 hours' notice... happy holidays.

I guess your idea of doing some more school is not that bad (gives you some time to think at least). Depending on whether you picked the right subject or not. Is it something that will lead you to a job you like? Do you know where it will lead you to? Will it help you achieving your goal which I think is doing a job you like?
I'm currently doing a PhD in biology (evo/devo, genetics) and am not at all sure where I will end up with that. I am not even sure if I want to do these 4 years of hard work.

I know exactly how you feel. I've been working for my company for 6 years. It isn't my dream job. There are so many things that I want to do in life but would have to pack up and move again to follow my dream. Tough question.

I work about 30 hours a week at a realty office. It's fairly easy work and I spend a lot of time on taking naps or doing homework.
I just started a second job tending bar at this hick place where people don't have teeth and they try to grope you. It's a little scary but, eh.
I'll be glad to be done with them both though. I'm still only a sophomore in college, getting a B.S. in creative writing- and I plan to go to grad school for something...I don't know what.
Deciding this shit is fucking hard- goodluck with it.
