The Red Sox and ... Marlins have come to a tentative agreement on a trade that would send Beckett, the MVP of Florida's 2003 World Series win over the Yankees, and three-time All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell to Boston for highly touted shortstop Hanley Ramirez, right-handed prospect Anibal Sanchez and a minor-league pitcher.
"I haven't heard anything yet," the 25-year-old Beckett, who added he would welcome the chance to pitch in Boston, told the Miami Herald. "Actually, I'm a little excited about it."

Don't forget the addition of Mota. Let's recap: 25-year-old, Cy Young-caliber pitcher, Gold Glove 3b capable of 30 hr, 110 rbi, and one of the best set-up men in the game for a SS prospect, whom the Sox have another of that is more major-league ready (Pedroia), an expendable pitching prospect, and two no-name Single A prospects. Yeah, I can't really se any reason to complain.

Redskies, take your favorite soccer team and find their biggest rival, then multiply that by ten. After that, you're close to understanding the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry.

i too will badly miss billy mueller. probably the most underrated 3b in the AL, and well deserving of a gold glove.

beckett will get a blister on his right hand 3 times next year, get in 20-25 starts and get his era inflated by 1.

Youk @ 1st and Lowell @ 3rd may not be that bad. Maybe Lowell will do well in a hitter's ballpark like Fenway. I just don't want to see Mueller go. I like the guy, damnit. Olerud, too. He made up for being a Shitty Yankee by wearing that Sox uniform last year. Looked good on him.

go sox.
my starting rotation:
1) Becks
2) Schill
3) Clement
4) Wake
5) Arroyo
long relief/on the bubble pending health
1) Paps
2) Miller
That's all predicated on whether Schill is even 80% of his old self, which would make him a productive #2. and i don't know that miller will be back.
Billy Mueller will not be re-signed with Mike What-the-hell-happened to by BA. coming in. Youk will likely move to 1st because he needs a shot dammit and Olerud and K-Mill aren't coming back. Sorry, Millar. I'm a fan, but all talk/no bat doesn't = happy Jack.
GO SAWX!

I think after last season Schilling's going to be so determined to prove to himself that he still has it that he'll really push himself. He's just so much drive in him, I don't know if anyone'd be able to stop him if they wanted to.
And hey, whether he starts or he's in the pen, Schill is Schill.
Timlin's back for another year, and Hansen should get a chance to feel his way through a season this time around. Jon Lester will add a solid left hand in the pen, too. But now...whither Foulke?

Meh. I don't fear him in the least, even after Game 6 in 2003. He was money in that game, but I'll venture to say that if they played again he wouldn't come close to that. Jack Morris he is not.
I'll make a wager now that he posts an ERA of 4.50+ in the AL.

I don't see Schilling continuing to start. And I say this with love. He's just...well, he's old, dude, and not age wise, either, just rode-hard-and-put-away-wet old. I think it totally, totally rocks that he trooped into the bullpen. I love that kind of dedication. And he does rock. I just don't know that he has it in him to start regularly anymore.
AND CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET SOME OF THOSE FUCKING YOUNG'UNS OUT THERE SO THEY CAN GET THEIR UNIFORMS DIRTY? They aren't going to develop as players or adapt to stress if they NEVER GET TESTED. Augh. Hate.
