Jason rocked back on his chair and laughed at me. Our kind hearted but ineffective teacher spoke at him.
"Sit forward, Jason. There are no wrong answers in English, only different ideas."
I hated hearing this. There were wrong answers in English, whether the edging-on-homosexual pastoral care program liked it or not, but I did appreciate his comment.
Jason was the biggest, stupidest and most popular kid in our year. His behaviour was odd in that he obviously enjoyed his power, and tried (probably out of self interest) to keep peace among the rest of us.
There were five classes in our year, and a few popular kids in each. Jason was the only one in his class, and received extra attention because of it. That lunch time, I sat with my humble group of friends. Jason was not among their number, nor was his rival, Xie.
Xie was not all that much different to Jason. He had been bigger than most people once, but had become average sized with all the high school growth spurts. He spent every day in the gym pumping weights to give himself a better image.
We could all tell that Jason wanted to start something with Xie, but perhaps because of the teachers' influence, he wanted a reason to do it first. Xie seemed less inclined to wait for something like this, so we were told.
Over the last years Jason has continually 'kept the peace' by picking on someone and bullying them. Whenever the teachers ask him about this, he replies that the victim did something terrible to deserve this punishment. The teachers usually prove that this isn't true, but Jason has too much disregard for their power.
For example, last year he was always shouting insults and shoving Ali around. Ali had supposedly been responsible for the time when someone had thrown Jason's bag into a rubbish bin full of water. Nobody thought that Ali had done it, but Jason had to take it out on someone.
His ongoing 'war' at the moment is with Ahmed. Poor Ahmed still doesn't know what he's done to deserve it. Jason alleges that Ahmed carried a switch blade to school and was going to roll him with it. The teachers never found such a weapon, and don't think that Ahmed would do such a thing.
Jason doesn't care that they disagree with him. A few months ago he rallied support in his quest from anyone he could. First to join was Bruce, ever eager to catch Jason's attention. An old friend of both of them, Thomas agreed to help Jason punish Ahmed. A few of the kids from Thomas' class joined in too, but when Ahmed's older brother threatened them, they left the attack to the others.
Some people see Jason as a great guy. I see him as a horrible, racist megalomaniac. Some people claim that he does great work in keeping peace in our year. If he was really an altruistic person he would be helping Mtono's class. Most of them find it hard to concentrate because they have problems at home. You can see that some of them are malnourished.
Jason is out only for himself. He was lucky enough to be born big and strong, and has used his power in what he disguises as a good way. Jason is a power hungry beast. He will feed on the smaller kids until he feels strong enough to take control. The teachers try to keep him in check, but they struggle.
We, as a group of kids, have to stop following this scourge. Jason has tricked us all with his claims of liberty and peace.
He has tricked us all. We must turn back before it's too late.
PS If you don't get it, don't diss it.

In a study of Brazil nut production in eastern Brazil, Miller (1990) found from 9 to 26 reproductive trees per hectare, while Becker and Mori (unpublished data) found only one tree over 10 centimeters dbh in a 100-hectare plot in central Amazonian Brazil.

Those words say a lot to me. But mainly: "LOOK HOW SMART I THINK I AM!"
