It's likely sitting on the back of many of your minds, and I know I'll lambasted on a spit for even mentioning it, but I'd like to address something of concern to me. Friends, honesty, and unnecessary brown-nosing.
Let's say you have a male friend who is dating an absolute horror of a woman. You hate her. You think she is the devil incarnate and you wish only the worst for her. You're not jealous that she is usurping your friends' time, but rather, you see some semblance of evil in her by which your buddy is blinded. Would you say to your friend, "Way to go! You've got yourself a great girl there!"? My guess is no. My guess is that, being a good friend, you would be honest and tell your buddy the truth: that while he might be happy in this relationship, you think he can do better.
And my guess is that he would appreciate you honesty. He might not agree with you, but he will likely look at his relationship with different eyes and attempt to see what you see.
Which segues me nicely to my point.
I feel there is an increasing trend here on Ubersite that tells us: if you've been around here for a while and you've written some cool stuff in the past, it doesn't matter what you write now. For if your name is at the top of the page, I'll automatically like it and will tell you so...repeatedly.
It's not so much that I care about ratings so much as I hate hypocrisy. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. You're not dumb people. In fact, I'm finding that while the people here may say idiotic things (which is very often), I sense intelligence here...in some form.
When people fuck up, or write or post something utterly brainless, why should the name at the top of the page matter? Is honesty a faux-pas? Is originality a thing of the past? I though people liked being entertained by good stories, well thought-out animations, or something of the like.
Simply copying and pasting a news article, for example, seems lazy and takes no creative skills. However, should someone want to elaborate on said article and form an objective opinion, fine...that's cool. You can easily find numerous examples on how this approach has worked for some, and yet failed miserably for others.
But why? Because you know who posted it? If that's the case, wouldn't that give you more incentive to be honest and say "look, you're my friend, and I know you can do better."
When I signed up for this site, I expected that originality (in any form) and witty banter would be rewarded while idiocy and lack of creativity would be frowned upon. I'm getting the sense now that those users who have "established" themselves have carte-blanche to create any brain fart that crosses their mind without fear of backlash. And to me, that's just dishonest and it will lead (and is leading) to an ultimately poor Ubersite filled with one crap post after another. And that's sad. Because I still kind of like this place.
I'm not new and I have made (and lost) some friends here. I don't expect everything you people write to be Vonnegut, but dammit, posting a picture of your hairy ass? Repeatedly posting pictures of a former users vagina? This place is going to hell in a hand basket quicker than you can say "STOP!"

1. You can post crap and get negative ratings and post ok stuff and get positive ratings, completely shattering your points here...
or
2. I just haven't been around long enough to carry any credit whatsoever so my posts are always rated unbiased.

I agree with some of the things you say. I, however don't get that caught up in it. If I cared that much about writing quality and proper judgement I would write a book and see how the sales follow. That or join a website designed strickly as a writing forum. I think I come here to have fun. Busting balls is sometimes fun, just like reading good posts can be. I could do without the stupid bandwagon posts and about 90% of the no-content posts.
I am not the best writer, but try and put in some effort when I do post. Oh well~!

I still think it is a notion worth reminding people of.
I've probably been here for over two years now, and I've noticed that, while mutual back-slapping has always been a part of the place, the new-fangled AIM/MSN/Chatroom style back-slapping club is even more annoying. You know, where the same people pick one or two posts a day to have their AIM conversations on.
I fucking hate those.
Of course, if I try to say something like, "Hey, maybe you should only reply on the post ABOUT the actual post," then somehow I'M the asshole.

This is what I usually try to do; I make it a point to not look at the author or the rating. Sometimes I don't have the heart to -2 a post with all +2 even though I really hate it, and it tears me up inside, but whatever; I think everyone else should do the same.
The only issue is that certain writers have a certain style (i.e., Fat Tony gives a big "fuck you" to the system and makes his OWN damn line breaks wherever he pleases) so you wind up knowing anyway. That usually gets me mad.

He's basically deriding the woman you love/care about/went to great lengths to repeatedly penetrate/first girl you've shagged in ages thus implying that you're crap with women. Whatever way you look at it it's a delicate subject and being brutally honest just demonstrates a simple lack of tact.

But whose to say what is honest, I mean how could you know what strikes me as funny or entertaining at a given moment?
Shit I don't even know sometimes.
And, is it not true that it works both ways, that some users constantly get crapped on because of who they are. For instance there are users out there that constantly call out for honest rating, well you know what I rate them with a little more scrutiny than I do others...you want it you get it.

And I agree, I've changed my name a few times and posted shit just to see the ratings, and it got shitty reviews. When I use this name, however, people seem to be more lenient for fear of me jumping through their screens and devouring them whole.
Baffling, really.
But then again, you fail to take into account the true nature of ubersite - this isn't a writers forum, it's a fucking social club, and birds of a feather flock together.
