Mr. Sparks came into his office through the side door. Danny slouched down further in his chair and yanked on the puzzle in his hand. It was two bent metal bars hooked to each other and there was a certain way to pull the two pieces apart. The chain links came apart as two and Danny smiled an expression of gratitude and placed the pieces on the desk in front of Mr. Sparks.
"Danny, how many times a year do I have to talk to you about fighting?"
"I never fight sir."
"What about that time you flipped Steven Smiths desk in Mr. Cummings math class?"
"That wasn't a fight; that was a consequence. Anyway, that was last year. Old news."
"Ok, and what about the time you punched James Craner during a fire alarm last winter?"
"He pushed me into an ice puddle. What'd you expect me to do?"
"Act a little more mature about the situation. Take for instance this time; you pinned Jason Boe on the ground and threatened to shove a pencil through his eye. Why would you threaten him with that?"
"Because..." Danny picked up the two pieces of chain links again and put them back together.
"Because?"
"Yeah, because." Danny frowned a little and started tugging on the chain links again.
"That's not an answer. Did he provoke you in anyway?"
"Yeah..."
"What did he do? Why didn't you get a teacher?"
"What... what is a teacher going to do? I get a teacher and all that happens is they are going to beat me up in the locker room, or they'll throw my lunch across the lunchroom, or worse they'll come to my complex and throw me in the pond." Danny put the puzzle on the desk and exchanged it for another one. "Getting a teacher is temporary. They'll keep coming, they'll keep terrorizing me."
"How do you know this? If they were to get suspended they will see it is something they won't want to happen again."
"Yeah... you just don't get it."
"What don't I get?" Mr. Sparks reached out for the puzzle, "And stop playing with that when I'm..."
Danny threw the puzzle on the desk, "I get beat up and go home and get beat up for not winning. I get made fun of and go home and have to face the fact that I allowed someone to disgrace my family name." Danny sat forward in the chair, "That kid told me to go jump from a tree and kill myself. He said hopefully I'll accomplish what my brothers could never do."
"Oh... ummm..."
"I'm 13 years old now, Mr. Sparks, I've been in this town for 3 years and I am tired of them knowing everything about my family. So I took it upon myself to shut the little shit up!" Danny sat back in his chair; "You won't understand Mr. Sparks, but I do. I'd rather be beaten then have someone say that about Chris. I'll kill a mother fucker before they even mention his fucking name." Danny paused and looked at a picture on the wall. It was a piece be M.C. Escher. It was a print of the lithograph "Relativity"; a piece young Danny was very fond of. "People walk through this world ignorant of the people around them. They are so used to the paths they take and the stairways they travel that nothing seems out of place about it." He points in the direction of the print so Mr. Sparks can see what he is talking about, "When they walk by on their upside down staircase and look at me and for a moment and realize I actually exist, they get confused. How could someone be walking upside down? They don't realize that the things they say and do are the upside down ones; they don't understand that I am walking the moral path. Do you see me taunting children for the frailties? No!" Danny beat his fists on the chair, "But if they point mine out I have to keep my mouth shut and continue walking by? I'm tired of wearing a fake smile and brushing it off my shoulder, because it never works that way. Those things are sticky and a residue builds on my hands. That crap gets everywhere and all I can do is hide it from people. Well I'm tired of it and they are going to pay for that!"
"Danny it doesn't have to be that way. The next time someone does that just come down here and let me know. I can help you."
"Yeah, that's what all your type say. My parents say that you; did you know that? They've been a lot of help!" Sarcasm oozed from Danny's mouth. "I don't need this shit; I've got class." Danny stood up and walked towards the door.
"Danny, you get back here!" Mr. Sparks climbed from his desk and followed Danny out the door. "Danny, you've got more explaining to do! Danny!" Mr. Sparks called down the hall. "Danny; long term detentions all this week! Room 203, you know where it's at! Starting today."
Danny turned around and gave a salute to Mr. Sparks, "It's not that I dislike you. You're a nice guy and all; there's just nothing you can do!"
----------------
Danny stepped off the activity bus about a mile down the street from his apartment complex. The sun had just began setting and stars were starting to appear in the sky. Danny pulled his arms inside of his t-shirt to keep them out of the cold air settling all about him. He walked down to the mill pond and continued around its bank into the woods. There is a path here that goes up right behind his building. These woods are where he would spend his days walking around thinking. With his brother Richard always home he had no reason to go there. Danny would always make sure to be out of the house before Richard woke up; never forgetting to stop by Richard's closet in the hallway to steal a bit of marijuana or a flask worth of rum. Like usual he took his time walking home through the woods as to procrastinate facing the consequences his mother would have for him. He stopped at the shore of the pond to throw rocks or would stand at the creek staring into its murky waters. When you've grown up with very little you can find pleasure in just about anything. The level of pleasure is only weighed by the mood you are in to begin with.
"Why is it I have to stay here? I want to go to Florida with my dad." Danny kicked a clump of dirt into the creek and watched as it dissolved, "I just want a new start. I want to get away from these people. I don't want to live with Richard anymore. I want a decent meal for once!" He stepped over the creek and continued up the hill towards his house. "But noooooo, my mother thinks Florida will be bad for me. She thinks my dad isn't fit. Yeah he drinks a little... yeah a little. So what if he is always on the road, but at least he has the money to support me. Also I don't fight with him like I do her."
Danny stepped out of the woods into the parking lot and noticed his mother wasn't home yet. He looked up at the window to the living room and noticed Richard's shadow bouncing about the place; music traveled down towards him explaining the mood Richard was in. Richard was high.
"Crap..."
Up the stairs and onto his floor Danny jogged. He slowed his pace as he approached the door and cautiously opened it popping his head in.
Slam!
The door closed back on Danny's temple. He fell to the ground and agony. Richard opened the door back up and stepped out on the foyer.
"So I got the phone call about what happened at school today." Richard picked Danny up and dragged him into the stairway. "Don't you fucking learn when I teach you something?" He hung Danny over the railing. He stared thirty feet down and concrete and began screaming terror. "It's one thing to fight... but you're not supposed to get caught you bitch!"
"What do you know! Wait till mom hears about this!" Danny struggled to get out of Richard's grip, but with out plummeting the thirty feet.
"Yeah... and we know what happens if you tell ma." Richard shook Danny a bit and pushed him a little further over the railing. He then pulled him back and tossed him back through the doorway of their floor. "Now get inside and do the dishes. Ma is expecting the kitchen spick and span by the time she is home!"
"Mom told you to do that this morning."
"Yeah, but I wasn't the one threatening the lives of kids now was I?"

One of the most bone crushing aspects of this site is the fact that you can spend a significant ammount of time constructing a story with some thought behind it and only three or so douchbags will even have the decency to give it the once over whearas some butt nuget from planet yank only has to post a picture of a used poo and they get fifty ranks and a cyber circle jerk.
+2 for effort alone and not bitching.
To be fair I couldnt be arsed to read any of this mind but keep it lively none the less.
