The World Press Photo foundation celebrates the 50th anniversary of its annual photographic competition this year. I stumbled across this piece of news during a B@W moment and looked into it. In doing so I found some truly magnificent work. I'd love to show you it all but as is always the case with something like this there is far too much for one post. I was tempted to put them into categories and do a series (and I may still do that) but I don't post that often and there is a fair chance that I wont get round to it. So instead I picked out some that really captured the moment.
Each is Powerful and emotional in it's own way even without knowing the story behind it and they only become more so once you do. Take time to look at each one and really ask yourself what they make you think and how they make you feel you may learn a fair bit about yourself.
Anyway enough rambling and here you are.
Note: I deliberately decided not to post the more graphic and hard core pics I may include these in another post but if I do suitable warnings as to content will be given

Resize has been done - check front page.
Fartboy I pretty much got these from all over the web. Although it was an article on the BBC news website a while back that got me onto this. I'll see if i can find the link in my history.

Very good post. I enjoyed this. I say enjoyed - it didn't make me happy as much as it made me think.

Resize next time please. It makes it hard to read the comments and take in the picture at once.

I looked into the first girl's eyes and all I could hear was 'ahahahhahhahahah' from that fucking movie 'The Grudge'
Good post I like it.

Those girl's eyes, man. Stare at them long enough and you get the chills down your spine.

Anyone that complains about the resize needs to STFU and look at the pictures.
Cool shit, could you post a link to the pics?
