There was once a smiley face in the world of smiley faces. But this smiley face, we'll call him, oh, i dunno, something generic that everyone can relate with. Bob. yea.
Well all the smileys in smiley land had one birthday, just one. one specific point where they transformed into the smileys tehy would be for the rest of their lives. this "coming of age" would change a feature on the smileys big yellow face, big ears or pointed ears, a grinning mouth or a small mouth, etc..
Bobs birthday came, he found himself with the defining feature were big wide eyes. one thing bob didnt like about this new feature of his was the way it made his eyebrows look, they pointed downward in a v and made him look angry and malicious, alllll the time. bob would sit in front of the mirror more time then the othe smileys thought appropriate. the other smileys had a very short attention span but bob just couldnt stop telling them about the new things he saw in the mirror.
the smileys in smileyworld had a festival every year where they would all put makeup around their defining smileyfeature and dance around a fire, they would dance and dance and hold little smiley hands and when the sun came up, they would walk to the smiley river and cool off from all that dancing. it would wash the makeup off too.
bob wanted to dance with the smiley but he didnt get an invitation. he figured the other smiley were trying to tell him they didnt like his eyebrows. bob thought to himself for a while about this and decided he'd better look at those eyebrows and figure out exactly what it was about them that the other smileys didnt like.
bob looked at those eyebrows so much that, as if willed by bob, he grew a beard, to ahve someting else to look at. bobs eyes grew wide with joy and he ran all the way to the festival, grinning ear to ear. he just couldnt wait to show everyone his new beard.
bob arrived at the festival, beard all trimmed and ready for public viewing. but the fire was mere ashes, there were no other smileys around. he heard a faint laughing in the distance, coming from the river. they were in the river already? he missed it? bob was furious, so fucking furious. he squinted his eyes and furrowed his brow in dissapointment and went back home.

meh... all the 'bob's' and 'smiley' made it kind of weak.

that kid reminds me of my mental image of you. it's a good book check it out.
