With the World Cup draw for Germany 2006 taking place today, I thought it would be fitting to do a post with respect to the WORLDS MOST BEAUTIFUL/MOST VIEWED GAME-WORLD CUP SOCCER.
During the last world cup in 2002 it was estimated that at any one time an estimated 500 million people (of the planet's 6 billion population) were watching one of the matches. Unfortunately though, during the last World Cup, the Worlds Most Beautiful game became THE WORLDS MOST CORUPT GAME with likes of Sepp Bladder and the incompetent officiating. Was there an ASIAN AGENDA and conspiracy by Bladder to ensure the growth of the game in Asia and therefore more $$$$$ to Bladder and FIFA...well, if we take just one example of the ITALY vs. Korea game, Ecuador's Byron Moreno turned down calls for a penalty, disallowed a goal for offside and sent Francesco Totti off for diving - objective, competent officiating? NO WAY!!! A year later, Bladders buddy Moreno was involved in a match fixing scandal between Deportivo and Barcelona. He has since retired from officiating football.

I can only hope that for Germany 2006, FIFA have learned there lesson and will go back to ensuring that matches are fairly officiated so we do not have to go back to the SCANDAL of Japan/Korea 2002.

I hope those of you who watch SOCCER/FOOTBALL around the world will enjoy Germany 2006 and continue to cheer on your favorite country.

Have a honest day.

America doesn't get Football, I'm not sure why not, perhaps it's because the draw is more and more a common result - the Americans don't quite get that.

--

American attitude to sports fucking cracks me up: "There are no draws. We play until there's a winner or until people start dying... in which case, victory goes to the last man standing"

Just another sport for America to dominate, I suppose

Nah, America's strong showing at the last world cup was due to a bit of luck as opposed to proven skill. Man for man, they haven't got anyone to challenge the strong european sides. Who is their match winner?

Bullshit. My money's on an England v Brasil Semi. We'll probably lose that game, but if we don't, I reckon we'll win the comp.
-------------

We better win the comp if we beat Brazil or the world will laugh at us. I said we would most likely fall at the quarter final stage because there are a lot of teams which are capable of causing upsets on the day. A lot of the European teams have got stronger(look at what happened in qualifing with a few 'established' teams failing to get through) and the African teams are definalty getting better all the time. The Asian temas still have a whie to go despite that fluke of South Korea's at 2002.

Apart from 96 this is our strongest side we have had in a while, but we haven't even come close to doing the best we can. 1998 second round, 2000 group stage, 2002 quarters, 2004 quartes again. All games we should have won.

The last time we got to a major final was 1966. We have an amazing first team but as back up we have nothing. Look at Brazil's attacking options, they have 5/6 world class players who would get into most sides in the world if not every side in the world.

I just think that depending on if we do our usual of fucking about at the group stage point and battling for top spot we could get a tough draw facing some of the favourite teams

England most likely will go out quarter finals unless we get a nice draw for who we play after the group stages. there are a lot of teams we could meet in the 2nd round who could be difficult

Shit.

I don't think that I've ever been this optimistic about the England team before - surely this must mean we're destined to go out in the first round after crushing defeats at the hands or Paraguay and Trinidad and Toboggen and the obligatory 1-1 draw with Sweeden.

Anybody notice when Sven was being interviewed afterwards about his thoughts on facing Sweeden again he just said "I think we should win this time" - Am I the only one that thought that maybe the 'we' he was reffering to was actually Sweeden?

probably.

I've also noticed that my reviews are getting longer the more stoned I am.

I wish I could get my penis to learn the same trick.

Australia in Brazil's group. Bah!

Looks like we'll have to bring star defender Kevin "leg-breaker" Muscat out of retirement for that game.

(Italy are too boring in the way they play their football. They stack their defence and hope that their lone forward can fool the referee into giving them a spot-kick. Down with Italia! Bunch of diving pansies.)

nerp nerp nerp, brazil won't lose

OK, Brazil are great - but look at their defence. Roque Junior? No no no.

Other than Lucio, they can't defend at the back - whereas we have Terry, Campbell, Rio, Carragher etc.

We're a well balanced team.
