Decided to finally enter the lottery that is getting a ticket for the World Cup in Germany. Ok, no chance of getting England tickets, so I've gone for Czech vs Italy (heavily oversubscribed) and Ukraine vs Saudi Arabia (unpopular) - i'm hoping to get both, and if not, i may try and top up at the next period.
Is anyone else going to the World cup for certain (or hoping that FIFA will be benevolent?)
My heart says England will win, we're solid in defence, hard working at full back, have a good set of hands in goal, central midfield is one of the strongest in the world, our strike force is talented (except for Peter Crouch - which has to be a joke) - right wing, we've still got Becks, who has a lot to prove at what could be his last chance as first pick player on the right. Left wing is a touch iffy, but perhaps Joe 'diver' Cole will come along. I hope so.
My gut is Brazil, they're looking amazing, other than perhaps some question marks over their defence, but when they score 5 a game, who needs it? Ronaldinho is simply awesome, and Adriano is a bit of a train. Albeit one with no right foot.
My head is Italy. They are past masters of grinding out results, and have an experienced squad replete with champions league winners. One of the best keepers in the world, the most disciplined defenders, midfielders with craft and guile, as well as the bull dog that is Gattuso, and up front they have options (Luca Toni is an archetypical English Centre forward - big, powerful, and committed, while they have the guile of Cassano and the pace of Gilardino.)
I am tipping the Ukraine to be dark horses. Shevchenko is in his prime, and is still the quickest striker I have ever seen over 30 yards.
Good luck to all nations (including the USA - I think you are doomed sadly - but enjoy playing Italy and the Czech Republic, and try to keep up with the Ghanians)
Fifa - PLEASE give me some tickets.

Lazy yeah - but he has talent - and last world cup he was immense. I'm hoping that Alan Shearer will grab him and bang his duck lipped face off a wall and inform him to be a good defender or else.
John Terry and Sol Campbell is solid -but lacking in creativity. The odd killer ball makes all the difference. The Krauts have shown that again and again.

No one is talking about France oddly, I find that worrying.
The fifa system is a fucking joke.
if you want tickets you'll get 'em.
i have booked a flight back to UK on 29th June, the day before the quarter final that england will be in if we get that far.
no way am i being in america for a world cup. not a chance.
---
France are looking quite good - but then if they're relying on Boumsong, then they have some weaknesses. I see the guy play for my team, and he does not look world class.
I am so looking forward to this world cup. It will be immense. Our best chance in ages.

You're right about the global nature of soccer redskies. To me, that is the one truly attractive feature of the game.
Maybe I should watch some more international games? It's kind of hard though. I don't have Sky anymore <weeps>, and the mainstream English media seemingly don't give a shit about anything that happens when the English teams aren't playing.
---
this world cup is going to be amazing. I am so up for it.
Even the group stages are throwing up some wonderful games.
Brazil - Japan
Holland - Argentina
Italy - Czech Republic
Australia - Brazil
England - Sweden
Germany - Poland
Portugal - Mexico (this will be filthy me thinks)
Most of the world cup will be on the bbc and itv, anyway, the only place to see football on the tv is in the pub with your mates. Go to the england games - the tension is incredible, but when we win - we have the best fans in the world.
I would bet your local pubs have every game. ENJOY!

We can't meet Brazil, Italy, France or Spain until the final.
Our side of the draw, Germany, Argentina, Holland, Czech republic look the strongest teams.
---------------------------------------------
I think we can meet Brazil and the others in the semis, I just did that World Cup Predictor on the BBC website. But it does depend on if they finish top of their group (as if they wouldn't ) or not. If they do top their group and we top ours, it'll be a semis meeting, if not, it'll be the final. But it doesn't matter either way, we're gonna have to face a tough test come the quarters anyway.
The way I've predicted it, we'll meet Poland in the first knockouts, Holland in the quarters, Brazil *gulp* in the semis and then, if we progress, Germany *GRRR!* in the finals. Wouldn't that feel good, beating Germany in a World Cup Final, 4-2 maybe? Sadly, I wasn't around in '66 but maybe, just maybe they'll do it '06.

Shit - just gone over my guide again, I missed that.
Thanks for the link, but I think we'll give Brazil a good go, and if we beat them, then will the germans be able to stand in our way?
I think the germans will go out against Sweden actually.

I'd rather watch 6 hours of homosexual hippos trying to play golf than 90 mins of soccer. And don't get me started on the supporters. Alot of them (not all) use the game as an excuse to act like absolute fucking morons.
I've been to a couple of games, but will never go again. I once went to watch Fulham play Celtic in a pre season friendly, and in the space of 5 mins, I had a drunken grey haired bloke threaten to "smack" me for accidentally sitting in his seat after half time. No "excuse me, I think you may be in my seat". Just a straight up "If you don't get out of my seat I'll fucken smack you." Never mind the fact he was a full foot shorter than me and more frail than my grandfather.
2 mins later, a massive fight broke out between 2 families a few rows in front of me. They both supported the same team. Both of them had their own kids at the game with them.
It was a PRESEASON friendly, you stupid anti-social soccer loving cunts.
Rugby is a real mans game.
---
Pre season friendlies are pointless. Clearly opportunities for drunkeness.
Rugby is a proper sport too, but I think we'll see a clean, physical competition this world cup. Violence should be at a minimum, unless the English are retarded (and I so hope we're not this competition)
This is a genuinely global event, on a par with the Olympics in terms of participation. I'm hoping that we get genuine love for the game. If i get my tickets then I shall be pleasant to the germans, friendly rivalry aside.
Fulham - Celtic? bleugh.
If you're going to a preseason friendly -go for Barca - Newcastle - now they are games!
And Ozzy, this is the opportunity for the Socceroos to show their quality. I hope they do well.

Let's not forget Australia. I doubt we'll get past round 1 (Brazil, Croatia, Japan), but hey. At least we got in.
---
I think you'll get to the next stage in second (you're better than Japan, and Croatia are plain shit) - but then you've got the winner of group E. Which is from Italy, Usa, Ghana or Czech Republic. I think all of these teams would piss on you - perhaps not the USA who are meh.
-----------------------------------
Perhaps we'll do a Senegal. It's ok, I didn't think so either
---
hmmm - South Korea and Japan was a weird tournement. A fair bit of dodgy refereeing, plus France turned up knackered.
You have some quality players.
Schwarzer isn't a bad keeper, Kewell can be a good winger, and is for Australia a lot more than for liverpool. Mark Viduka is a piefaced pie-eater who has eaten too many pies. The sooner you accept that the better. Skoko isn't bad, Kevin Muscat is a mentalist - which is nice. Bresciano is canny enough, but where's your depth?
I know you beat England a few years back at West Ham, but Sven clearly did not take that seriously. He played Jermaine Jenas, which, if I were you, I'd take as a personal insult. I'd love you to do well, but the thought of you lining up against the Czech republic, or the Azzuri fills me with a bit of pity. Seriously though - prove me wrong, go knock out Italy. It is a load of FIFA bullshit that you have not made more appearances, and I hope the move to a different group allows you to appear more regularly.
FIFA, I didn't mean that about the bullshit. I love you - please give me my tickets. Please.

Rob Green in goal, Dean Ashton up front and no bloody Nevilles and we'll be fine.
---
Dean Ashton is pretty damn good. I would not mind him at Newcastle. As for the Nevilles, I still have not forgiven Phil for Euro 2000. Gary, busy cunt though he may be, is a fine full back. His busy-ness up and down that wing is worthwhile, and he works well with Becks.
Rob Green is good - but as yet unproven at the top level. And i think Paul Robinson has done enough to justify his place.
Please, no Calamity James- fucking vampire that he is.

Let's not forget Australia. I doubt we'll get past round 1 (Brazil, Croatia, Japan), but hey. At least we got in.

Rob Green in goal, Dean Ashton up front and no bloody Nevilles and we'll be fine.

We can't meet Brazil, Italy, France or Spain until the final.
Our side of the draw, Germany, Argentina, Holland, Czech republic look the strongest teams.
We still don't hold the ball as well as other teams, but we are stubborn and powerful. If Beckham stays out wide, and puts those crosses in for Rooney and the arch poacher Owen, we shall be fine. Our defenders are probably the best in the world. Last tournement they were the best too - this tournement they are tougher and more experienced. Plus we have a better keeper than the declining Seaman.

Hmmm... I can't help but think back to all those disappointments and wonder "Am I part Brazilian?"
I don't know what I think about our chances... I am hoping that we will surprise ourselves but I have no idea on whether we'll get to the Semi's - here's hoping that we'll play the games we're capable of... and don't underestimate anyone.
I know this much though the US have got a hope in hells chance of getting anywhere (I'm sorry, but it's true) and I will be swept up in world cup fever, singing three lions wishing against all hope that England brings it home.
Man, it would be nice to have two stars on next years strip.

I do wish England could pull it out the bag but I don't see anyone beating Brazil, not even us. Sure, we'll make it past the group stages no problem (Sweden will probably be a draw), even the first knockout round and if we're lucky the quarters. Semis, I doubt it, we'll meet Brazil and get dicked on by 10 men for 30 minutes or something stupid like that. I'm not sure what it is, despite the amazing Argentina game a few weeks back, I don't think we're gonna win the World Cup. Not this year and certainly not in the immediate future.
