These articles inspired me to write and may provide desired context:

So how was your date?

It is not going to work out.

Really, I thought she was smart and very attractive?

Yeah, but we just lacked chemistry...

I have had that conversation on both sides and I have always taken for granted the chemistry part. Now as science progresses I find myself musing more and more about the very question of what "chemistry" is involved in love and also whether or not it is wrong to manipulate it.

I once had a girlfriend who had an intangible sparkle, what the french call je ne sais quoi, and it was amazingly attractive. After we broke up literally all of my single friends in college asked me if they could date her. Some of them even apologized saying, "I know it is not cool to ask but..." I cannot figure out if she has pheremones going for her or what, but she is transfixing in person and it is noticed by everyone I know.

We can all learn psychology and especially non verbal communication and learn how to make others feel attracted. Depending on the person you can make them feel safe, or scared, intellectually stimulated or intoxicated by flattery they want to believe, but all of these tricks are almost like blind prodding searching for buttons to unleash the chemical stream that leads to love.

Perhaps the entire analyzation of this is a mistake. I loved nature more when as a child I felt the breeze and sometimes saw a good and kind wind from God and othertimes an evil or ill wind blowing (in retrospect usually depending on whether the wind added or detracted from my comfort).

If we can manipulate these chemicals in the future would it be wrong to do so? MDMA besides being illegal also seems to have adverse long term impacts, but what if you could just subtly alter your pheremones? What if you could just get an edge with a little oxytocin? Will people eventually fall in love because someone slipped something in their drink?

I realize this all sounds far fetched, but so did taking away pain a scant 200 years ago. Blocking pain receptors is something we can do to a very large degree now and those who refuse to take pain medicine are a small minority of the population. Will the new Prozac be a love drug that just makes it a little easier to be nice to everyone?

All of this is disturbing to me. I love the highs of life but I think I only appreciate them because of the other times. However if you could bottle that feeling of first falling in love and sustain it throughout a relationship, I think you would have lots of takers.

Any thoughts?

But why? That is just supposed to happen naturally.

Bwahahahahhahahaha! You mean people are bought and sold all the time.

Think about it, ever have a guy do something "special" for you? Did it involve diamonds or a fancy dinner?

Could you love a man who lived out of his $400 car?

I missed my nap today...

There's a distinct difference between attraction and love. Love is something that settles on us, it's not a vital or explosive thing. That's lust. If you simply notice a girl and think 'hmmm, she's nice. I'd love to feel her warm and full arse bucking against me as I explode inside her' then that's attraction.

Loving a person is akin to loving one's limbs. It's not something we consiously think about, but we're really attatched to them and miss them like fuck when they're gone.
