Please excuse me for my ignorance, but what exactly is emo anyways? I've noticed it mentioned a heap recently, and need clarification. Is it a wannabe goth or trendy goth? In Australia, as far as I'm aware, they don't seem to exist in Australia. Anyone care to clarify?

Emo? "Emo" is an abbreviation of "loser". Emo kids are worse than goth kids, except that goths are still around, so it's becoming unbearable.

EMU with the emphasis on the 'U' is a flightless bird that is found in Australia, similar to an osterich. Typical american uneducated tosspots naturally wouldn't know the difference. Like Tasmania isn't a country in Africa...

"emotional hardcore" musical genre, prevalent amongst classic 80s Washington D.C. bands and their descendents. Generally, the majority of posters on this site are emo... unfortunately, I guess I dont fit in.
If you are wondering about the style, it is the "geek" look or the hair style often seen like that in the earlier picture. Generally the "emo" is someone that wants to act as if the world is all messed up when it isnt because his life is boring. They want to be original or dynamic, yet arent in reality, so they wear the facade instead (like goths). This person cant handle the ridicule that the freaks that dress goth do. They tend to make fun of those who copy them in later generations, just as it has been done many a time before themselves.
