Convince Me
"You should feel the Texas sun," she purrs to me as she lazily strokes circles on my belly. "It's so hot some days you could swear you were melted into a puddle on the pavement. The only way you know you aren't, is the fact that you can still feel the sweat beading on your skin... gliding down your arms... sliding between your breasts.... The drops on your skin would be perfect for a lovers hand to smooth away, and a sweet breeze and margarita redemption at sunset make it all worth it... Wouldn't you like to feel that?"
Her hands moving over my skin are trying to convince me that I could not live without them.
"We would walk by the river at sunrise, still feeling the wine from the night before, and watch the streets awaken just before we fall into bed. We would draw the curtains to block the sun and sleep till three, with a whirring fan and cars passing outside the only sounds. Wouldn't you like to do that?"
Her voice has become throaty with need and hope, imagining this pristine life she wants for us. She thinks if she just wishes hard enough it will come true. Maybe if she kisses me hard enough it will come true.
"The twilight hour is like velvet on your skin and ambrosia on your tongue. We would have quiet evenings so still you'll hear the air being displaced by bird's wings as they fly by. We would have a sky so large and filled with bright stars you would have no need of streetlights. Wouldn't you like to see that?"
Her hand has moved to my arm, clutching and beseeching. The tears in her eyes are unnerving.
I gently kiss her mouth, and remove her hand.
