The Asian Tsunami... I know it happened at the end of 2004, but it consumed January for me. I had friends in Thailand at the time, they were at Bangkok Airport waiting to get on a flight to Phi Phi Island but they couldn't leave, the place hardly existed any more. My friends were OK, and I knew other people over there and my family has friends in Malaysia. All people I know were left unscathed, but our close neighbours are devastated countries. Australia donated $1billion out of the nation's coffers and private individuals kicked in millions more. See my Bali bombing point. I do have a question - why do hurricanes get cutesy names but a tsunami gets nothing? Couldn't we call this "Tsunami Sukki Sukki" or summink?
Idiotic young Australians getting caught in Bali with drugs - Schapelle Corby was the controversial one who allegedly took 4.1kg of pot to Bali. Then there were the "Bali 9" - nine bogans who were caught with heroin strapped to their bodies. Then the model Michelle Lesley who was caught with a couple of e's. Schapelle gets 15 years, the Bali 9 will get to taste red hot lead for their last meal and Michelle Lesley got off after 3 months in a Bali prison. Oh and then YET ANOTHER FUCKING AUSTRALIAN was executed in Singapore for trafficking heroin. He said he did it to pay off his brother's gambling debts... personally, I would have sent the fucker to a bank and a job agency. Here's the hot tip - ASIATICANS DON'T LIKEE NO DRUGS.
The Pope. No - no relation here, just wanted to say "out with the old, and in with the Jew hater". Well, he's not, but he WAS a Nazi, even though he had to be at the time. Ahh... those vakky Germanz.
Crown Princess Mary's marriage to Crown Prince Fredrik of Denmark. It's a nice fairytale thingy that's all gushy and stuff... mostly I am wrapped because I met her when she was just a normal person, and she's very nice. She's now popped out a sprog. Good for her.
The London bombings - as most Australians, I have family and friends who live in London, and some of them had close calls. I have to say that the links do appear to be tenuous with some of them, but my cousin's office was very nearby. Scares me that native born people can still want to inflict so much hurt, pain and hatred on their fellow country men and women.
Another bombing in Bali. The hatred the bombers have for foreigners is hard for me to understand. It's all consuming. They attacked people who are guests in the country, people the Balinese invite to their island to spend money there. I have to say that when my tax dollars and the money I have personally donated to Indonesia is spent helping out the unfortunate, the bombers have a think. We are all citizens of this dirty mudball circling the sun, when will we get it right?
Oh, Iraq. Afghanistan... others. Mk.
Then there was Katrina. What a motherfucker that was.
I lost three friends this year, one suddenly and naturally, one took her own life and the third passed away accidentally. I have written a eulogy and worn my black suit too much for one year.
My friend had a baby - it's the result of a one night stand. The couple, of course, are not together and I honestly feel OK about that. The reason is clear to me, I get to help raise a child. There's something that kicks in when a baby comes along and it's natural, we are all there helping. I love how this baby smiles when she sees me. Mostly I like the attention I get when I baby sit her in my local bar.
Oh, I graduated. Finally, at the age of 33, I have finished my academic career with my last degree, a Master's. Actually, I'm thinking of the PhD. But not now.
There were other things, I helped friends create a restaurant, I had a couple of great lovers - even though they were short term. I got a new, hot job. I expanded my social group and now count myself as a very lucky person, I have had a lot of laughs. And I still managed to donate some time for charity.
It's been a good year. I hope 2006 is even better.
What has 2005 meant to you?

I won enough money playing poker to cover the rest of my education, and my grandmother died within 24 hours.
2005 is the fist year I'll legally have to file a tax return. That'll be fun.
My first girlfriend ever died.
I moved into a house with 3 of the best people I have ever met.
One of my best friends got a tatoo of a penguin on her back. For no apparent reason. What. The. Fuck.

No! I have chronic hypothyroidism. my thyroid gland does not work. I have to take replacement thyroxine and the dose keeps going up.
And I aparently have a problem connected to it with my hypothalamus that they cant investigate until FlibbleFoetus is out. the second prob could explain my short stature though so that's an upside.

Ah yes... You know, we Danes are awfully proud of Crown Prince Frederik, and Mary is extremely popular, especially after they just had a son. She's also refreshingly down-to-earth. I'm glad Frederik didn't marry some princess or whatever...

What's the difference between the new pope and a nazi anyway? I was just wondering. He hates homosexuals, he doesn't deal with jews, and only wants to look after the "chosen" catholics. He's already gone back and changed most of the positive things that the previous Pope had done, for Christ's sake.

mo' money, marriage, using my wedding corset as part of a kinky dress-up session in france that probably resulted in my current pregnancy (quick workers-honeymoon baby), leaving my job, feeling like a beachball, moving house twice, meeting mr flibb's mum for the first time, mr flibb getting promoted so now he earns more than my dad, my mum finally getting a job and it totally changing her life for the better, the discovery that I have a chronic auto-immune disorder requiring drugs for the rest for my life and finally another discovery that's somewhat better than the first; I get 15% off at The Pier and we have one in Basildon so I don't have to travel to Nottingham or london to use my discount card.
oh, and finding out that my extended family obviously do not know who I am any more.
wow. big year.

It meant one year closer to Bush leaving the White House. Hopefully, he's the last Bush that'll ever see that place alive.

2005: The year Mother Nature fought back.
I was cheering for her, too. It's about time she put up a good fight.
