The guys floating out there used to laugh when I'd come back to the surface, blowing sand and saltwater out of my sinuses and coughing. They'd shake their heads as I paddled back out there and rejoined them, still smiling, still determined.
"Go further in." they said. "You're not ready for this."
"No way. If I'm gonna get beat, I'm gonna get beat down good, and I'll learn." I replied every time they said that.
I learned. I grew in skill. I know my limitations, but I push them every time.
Now they shake their heads and laugh when I'm out there before they are.
They say "You go, dude. Charge it!"
Charge it. Those words are great. Take it on head first, don't back down, crash and burn if you're going to, but run that risk. If you take it, and you make that ride, it's one more success. It's one more lesson, it's a little more edge to push.
I want 2006 to kick so much ass I need a truck to haul it in. This week, I sign up for a rock climbing gym. http://www.verticalhold.com I have a lesson this weekend, the first of several. I will fall. I will slip off. I am not ready for this. I will learn. I will be stronger, faster, better, and smarter. This will prepare me for a bigger risk http://www.ubersite.com/m/76925 and that will test my limits again.
Resolutions for the new year are crap. Revolutions are the only way to change and hold to it.
It's your life. Charge it.

Did anyone else notice that the water level of the Pacific Ocean has dropped two feet in the past couple of weeks? I think we should check GC's lungs here for the rest of the water.

I think we should all kick more ass this year. I know last year I left much ass to be kicked, and I regret that. So this year I will make a few resolutions:
1) Never wear a condom.
2) Never wear a seat belt.
3) Tell big gang members EXACTLY what I think of them.
4) Eat mercury.
.....Or maybe I should just continue my boring existance.

You should have attached a pic of "The Six Million Dollar Man" to this.

Scourge:
I am waiting until after I complete the training course / climb on Mt Baker before I nail down the major details, but the current offerings from AAI show that they're doing late Jan / mid-Feb 2006 for that trek. It stands to reason that they'll be doing it again the same time of year in 2007, which is when I plan to go.
Airline-wise, I intend to use a non-US airline as you get excellent service at a cheaper price. Copa Airlines, out of Panama, is very nice (and has hot stewardesses) They say I could fly from Los Angeles International to Buenos Aires, Argentina for 723.50 next month(if that was when I was going) That's not too bad, if you ask me. Expedia.com says I'll get the same price range from United and Delta, but I'd rather get a gourmet meal than a fucking sack lunch.
Mt. Baker will be in 5 months. if I can't summit that, I will not attempt Patagonia. Too far, too remote for me to be holding the group up or getting hurt/sick.

Sadly, when I'm at work, that program is not available to me. Nothing really is.
Irony is a motherfucker.

Indeed it is. A funny motherfucker. I hold no grudges, I'm a damn good natured guy. Also, my picture was easily ten times as big as yours.
I want to go on that Patagonia trip, if I can at all swing it. You got details worked out yet?

Duckdiving is great. I can do it.. but not on that softboard I'm holding in the photo. They ride too high, float too well. I can't get under very well. I can either turtle it, take it in the face, or go over the top if the boil is small enough.
5 months and I'm looking at buying a new board, this one is holding me back from getting any better.

This gave me fond memories of learning to surf when I was a tike.
Duck diving, man. It all changed as soon as I learned to duck dive.
