A better friend I never had, whether boy, girl or dog
and to this day I miss him still, yet onward still I shog.
Sands of time have buried the pain, of a young life's greatest loss
but never will his memory fade, nor over his face shall I gloss.
His actions were those of a king, a champion and a winner
and though I do not cry for him now, the void he left is no thinner.
Oh! to take him in my arms, to hug his neck, God! to kiss his face
I would never let him go I swear, after I had that first taste.

[the following is an excerpt from his obituary]
Michael, 23, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in Crawfordville. Michael was a world traveler who sought adventure everywhere he went. He bathed in the waters of Rio de Janeiro and backpacked across Europe, making new friends with his charisma and enthusiastic love for the beauty of the world. When he returned home from his travels a cultured man, he shared his stories of strange lands thereby allowing all of his family and friends to share his adventures with him. He was an accomplished musician and linguist, an avid reader and a lover of the fine arts and the simplest things in life. Michael was a loving son, a generous and wonderful brother, a proud uncle and a thoughtful friend to all. The road Michael traveled was rocky. He stumbled, as we all do, so many times, but always picked himself up and walked on with his wounds. He struggled to find peace and happiness in a world devoid of tranquility. Yet he found the strength to impart peace and love to all who knew him. And for that, he will always be remembered as a beacon of light in a dark world. The love of Michael's life was Maria Belen Aguilara, whose love meant more to him than she will ever know.

You know what... for shame to most of you..
You would think for once this place would be devoid of some immaturity...
ITM was a long time Ubersite member. regardles of whether or not you are new or old, he was one of us.
Maybe you didn't know him. Maybe you didn't agree with his ideals or his lifestyle, but he was amidst your fucking around between class, or sluffing off work, just doing his thing.. the least you could do is show some fucking respect. At the very least for the people that knew him on the site...
I have been party to many 2 sided conversations filled with all the sterotypical personas.. and honestly you would think the death of one of our own would be sobering enough to at the very least, if you are incapable of compassion, to stay off the post..
I am appalled.

He was one of us? I dont consider myself one of you. I dont want to be in your fucking club. I didnt know this guy, and I dont feel bad that he's dead.
Some kid from my high school a couple weeks ago went to a party and got shitfaced. He and a friend decided to go street racing and nobody in the room thought it was a bad fucking idea. They passed a side street where a cop was waiting. He started chasing them, and one of the two cars stopped, and his friend kept right on going. The cop estimates that the car was moving 120 mph when it blew through the red light and smashed into the side of a pickup truck. Both drivers were killed on impact.
Now, should I feel bad that this kid is dead? Any of my younger friends who knew him seem to think so. Well, I fucking dont. Some people deserve not to be alive. From what I've read, ITM seemed to be that kind of guy.

No, he's dead. I don't know what the cause was, but he was very depressed and having problems on and off with drugs and drinking... so I'm assuming it was either suicide or OD, but that's PURE speculation.

Would you like someone posting your obituary on here?
This is a selfish act of indulgence that should never have been dignified with the attention it received.
May his soul rest in peace, even after you've done everything you can to taint it.

At the very least, we are part of a common thread. We have deemed the people on this forum worthy of varying amounts of our time. We expose glimpses of ourselves to this group of mixed strangers and react to their scrutiny and appreciation. The death of someone who frequented this thread is reason to pause and consider what we have lost and what we have in common.

"To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time", written by Robert Herrick.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
Old time is still a-flying:
And this same rosebud that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.
I didn't know the guy but found that poem in one of his posts.

So let me get this straight.
It's all fun and games to either make fun of or honor people that die anywhere in the world, but when it's someone people know on uber, it's inappropriate?
It's only "messed up" when it's someone close? I doubt every hurricane/tsunami/whatever victim wanted their lives exposed, but it happened, didn't it? And we all have a dandy time with it. But now it's someone close and it touches a nerve. Jesus...
If someone feels compelled to honor something/someone private in a pretty public forum, it's their prerogative, just like when someone feels the urge to post a picture of Terri Schiavo with an MSPaint cock in her mouth.

i suppose the stupid cunt choked himself trying some complicated manoever out of a german scat video.
it's strange, when a friend dies there seems to be this mixture of feelings. there is disbelief and shock and regret and anxiety and guilt and anger and then all the feelings about what a waste it is and all the potential that will never be realised and all the sadness left behind in the mortal world.
but strangely, and this happened to me with anohter friend who died, I also feel a good kind of sadness, full of love and affection, even happiness, as if death is not really the end. there's a sort of glow of good feelings, of communion.
michael, if you are out there somewhere in the ether, in some better place, i hope the scat is flowing like nectar and not a worry creases your lovely brow.

the clinical side of me always wondered what would happen if a user died. It's somewhat comforting to see that the majority of Uber is so far handling the matter with at least a partial modicum of respect. For once I think it would be nice if this didn't turm into a shit-fest.

I am giving this a +2 because ITM was indeed the kicker of all ass. I know most of you on here don't or, rather, didn't like me, and with good reason, but ITM was one of the nicest and most encouraging people I have met online.
He had a big heart, and it feels strange to think about him not being on here. It's a funny thing about the internet: I always feel it is a constant, and I always felt everyone would stay on here. Sadly, this is not the case.
ITM will be greatly missed, not just by Ubersite, but by his real family and real friends. I will pray for them.
"In the arms of the angel,
fly away from here,
from this dark, cold hotel room,
and the endlessness that you feel.
You are pulled from the wreckage,
Of your silent reverie.
You're in the arms of the angel,
may you find some comfort here."
~Angel, Sarah McLachlan
In any case, thanks to Tom for letting me know.
-Audrey

Words cannot express the deep sadness we feel. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Knowing that Michael is at peace, free of the illness that tormented him so, will not at this moment ease your pain; but remember that he is alive in Jehovah's eyes and memory and when he is returned to you in the resurrection all of this horrible pain will not be allowed to come to Michael's mind or yours. I was so saddened to hear of your great loss. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Your son now lives with his Heavenly Father in eternity, where there is no time. For Michael it will be only moments until you are together again. But those who remain here on this earth will grieve through the days, months and years until the joyfull reunion. I pray that our Heavenly Father will hold your grieving hearts in His healing hands and give you peace.

It's a sad day when a member of your tribe dies.
May he rest in peace.
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

And before anyone feels like "exposing" me, here:

High ID number, but I've probably been reading passively for longer than most people on here nowadays.
For what it's worth, I enjoyed ITM's posts. Just like I enjoyed Richard Pryor's comedy before he died. They're both complete strangers to me, and even though one was more of a public figure than the other, they both left behind works to be judged by.

I did it because I was told about it, and I thought "what if nobody knew he and I talked?"... really, what if?
I left out information on the obit in order to protect his privacy.
Although I understand some of the discent (sp?) about "you shouldn't have done this", I decided to do it because I know he'd want people to remember him. He'd also not want people thinking he just "left" because he didn't care.
I could have went months emailing him and wondering "Is he pissed at me? Why isn't he answering?", etc.
I did count on uber to be sympathetic and caring, as it was when I went through the death of my father. I didn't count on this turning into another opportunity for people to throw their egos around.
What it all comes down to is this:
He was a part of this community, on many levels, and just as it's done in society- when someone leaves a community, it is proper to say your goodbyes.
I didn't believe it was right to have a small circle of people passing the information along, simply because we don't all know every person he touched... if anything, it's the opposite... we can never know every person he touched, so isn't it selfish to horde such information for "certian people"?
Death is a part of life, and saying goodbye is a part of death.

I thought it was just poetic license, a story you made up or embellished to make it more interesting. If thats not the case and someone really did die, I guess I really sound like a scumbag now, don't i?"

I think I'm pissed off at him right now.
Do Jamie and Shandy know? (I'm guessing they do.) What about Spike? They had a thing once, didn't they? Or at least she headed down south to help him out once?
23?
Fuck.

That was unfair, I'll be precise. Michael liked his privacy. Take a hint ya jerk.

This was thoughtful of you, but sometimes you really need to shut the fuck up. Seriously lady, some news isn't news meant for ubersite. It's an awful sweet thing to remember him like this, but you know what? Next uberuser who dies and you find out about it, do him/her and everyone else a favor and suture your fingers together.

This is sad...my sincere condolences...but "why do you think they call it dope?"
Oh, and the post isn't a "kicker of all ass". Nothing personal.

That sucks, dude. I just lost a great friend, so I sympathize deeply with how you feel. I posted about his death here, http://www.ubersite.com/m/81592 the day before Christmas.

Suicide? O.D.? Date of death is Jan 1.
Knowing ITM and his problems, can we assume that his New Year's Eve celebrations got out of hand?
(I'm honestly not trying to sound like a dick here.)

This is truth. Teeph, she cut out a few pieces from the Obit to make this.
Those who know me, know my word is good. If you'd like to have the Obit to leave a message for the family, some of us have the link to it. I found it yesterday at the request of someone on here.

It's not a joke. I got an email about it this morning, and it's been being passed around the people who knew him via cellphone and email and what have you.

No, he wasn't gibberish. He was an older uber-user who hasn't been around much lately, but he made this site a better place when he showed up.

Yeah, it's really awful. I feel terrible. I'm selfishly thankful I have at least a few memories of him, not the least of which is the video Jared took in Atlantic City in '03.
He was a unique person in so many positive ways - which made even his nuttiness endearing. I only wish he had gotten the kind of help he needed, if it existed.

Don't get me wrong, I love(d) Insane, but either that obit has had some info redacted (last name, state, possible cause of death) or it isn't from a newspaper.
I've just seen too many of these to believe it at first blush.
