Session 4: "Splatter Splatter"

Personnel:
---------------
Captain Thorns (Dave): Lead vocal, high and mid bkgd vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, standup drum kit (snare/kick)
Korey: Low bkgd vocal, bass guitar, accordion (arranged for synth)

Captain's Log:
--------------------
This is an arrangement that we did of a song by a Canadian satire-comedy band named Moxy Früvous. The band does everything from barbershop to grunge to retro rock to rap to cartoons and more. And they layer really thick harmonies and chord structures on almost every song that they write, so arranging and recording this was one of the biggest challenges we've had in quite some time.

NOTABLE MOMENTS: 1) shitty guitar solo by yours truly. 2) Crazy tight background vocal harmonies, especially at end of solo.

Lyrics:
---------
Kids in their PJs, big bowl of nachos
Another perfect day in Rhodedendron Park.
The sun is shining, now dad's reclining
Roll down the blinds to watch a movie in the dark.
Some buxom ladies, a Lamborghini
Shadowy motives in a shadowy land.
Some idle chatter, then Splatter Splatter
Cue soundtrack music from the up-and-coming band.

This is the best I've ever seen
I want to see it, again and again and again

She's babysitting and doing homework.
A sudden phone call from the senior quarterback.
She loves attention, she craves attention
He's got a present for her from her daddy's shack
She getting cozy, the window rattles
A few allusions to last summer's episode.
The windows shatter, then Splatter Splatter
What could be more perfect than to see her head explode?

This is the best I've ever seen
I want to see it, again and again and again

We came from monkeys, we once were hunted
Perhaps we recognize that hunted human face
Maybe the suburbs are just far too antiseptic
Kids need some Splatter Splatter messing up the place.

This is the best I've ever seen
I want to see it, again and again and again and again
Again and again and again
This is the best I've ever seen
I want to see it, again and again and again
Again and again and again
Again and again and again

Coming In Session #5: "Gangsta Folk"

Yea, you should probably do that with Orgazmo. He's more lyrically inclined than me anyway. Sorry.

Oh hilarious.
A musical like an honest-to-tits opera, or a stage show like Phantom or Les Mis?

Needs more hits.

When are you immortalizing another one of my songs?
When are we going to collaborate on something? Thornin & Orgfunkel?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Send me your songs, and I'll immortalize 'em, when I get back from my trip. Seriously, drop me an e-mail - dsvmusic@yahoo - and we can talk shop for collaboration. Tom Sorrell and I were supposed to be working on a joint UberMusical, but he's gone AWOL, so maybe you can help out too...

so why do you hate me?

just curious.

Not that I care, I'm just self-absorbed.
----------------------------------------

I don't, just had no idea what to put in the last block of nominations so I picked a name at random from the other voting ranks and followed suit...I'm a follower. Nothing personal. There's no one on here I really can say I hate, with the exception of maybe that stupidass alter nate.

Gangsta Folk should be interesting.

Now you're just trying to rack up +2's on purpose. Bastard.

I concur with Orgie, though...after hating that organ thing for all these songs....I miss it! boo hoo, I cut myself.

I'd like to hear some more of YOUR stuff, Mr. Street Fighter RyuFu...loved the bin Laden song!

Nice laid back feel. I liked the accordian sounds. The vocals were a little wavering in parts, particularly toward the end, where the harmonies veered slightly sharp in places. The main vocals had a little too much effect, I think, but that also gave the song a strange air, so that's just a matter of taste.
-------------------------------------------------

If you listen to the original recording by Moxy Fruvous (see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B00000JMG5001007/0/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_007/103-8134794-7798243 ), they use some sort of lo-fi bandwidth effect on the lead vocal...I was trying to simulate that. I definitely needed to drop the main vocal reverb on the sung parts. All in the fun/odd feel of the song though, like you said.

Good playing, too. Though I'll admit, I missed hearing the organ warble at the end.

I didn't care for the first four lines of the verses. But that's not your fault, that's the original song's fault.

Once the singing started, I loved it, because the flow of the lyrics and notes really hooked me (particulary the last line of each verse).

Good playing, too. Though I'll admit, I missed hearing the organ warble at the end.
