You know...reading about this (the only thing I found in English was on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloc_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) reminds me of US History. You know, back when the States didn't like or trust each other and the candidates actually fought to keep their State's interests in mind on a national level. I don't know the reasons though, so I can't say if I like the guy or not. I will say that I like the idea of actual differences in government and not 500 people with political views so similar that it's hard to even call them two parties.

Because we're "different, not better, not worse...just different. Culturally and in the way we deal with issues. He'd rather live in harmony with the great Canadian neighbor than having that neighbor mingle in our business". At least that's what he keep repeating over and over.

Gilles Duceppe is the leader of the Bloc Quebecois who fights for the rights of quebecers on a national level. By quebecers this usually falls under French ones. He does support the seperation of quebec from canada to be its own nation, however the seperation of quebec has to be done at a provincial level. Essentially the Bloc Quebecois is a giving the seperatist view to the nation, but they only have candidates in quebec so people elsewhere can't vote for them.

This guy is fighting to tear Canada apart. He leads a federal party that is only represented QC which goal is to promote seperation or as he puts it, "represent the interests of QC in the federation"
It's a rather complicated matter.

In the U.S. that man would be trialed for treason, here they is admired.

The other anglo-leaders' french suprised me a lot too. Except for the common Tu/Vous, masculine/feminine fumbles and verb conjugaison, they did pretty good.

Actually the worst part was listening to the translator they had dubbing over their voices, she could barely keep up half the time so i just watched the french debate, seeing harper fumble around with simple words was great. I thought Martin was the best anglo french speaker out of the lot and Layton made the most mistakes

The new one!
I find that there is the new one in this election campaign.
It is since January 2000 that the Commission of the citizenship of the Québécois Block works near the whole of the Québécois communities resulting from immigration. Gradually, but regularly, the commission wove increasingly close links with the representatives of these various communities, sensitizing them with the project souverainist and with the effect that together, it does not matter our origins, we could all draw advantage from the control full and whole of our average policies, here even in Quebec.
For a few years, with the wire of time, I have felt that the efforts of the commission bore fruits. Honestly, I you affirm it, there is an important change, quasi palpable, and it is something which delights me largely since that is expressed concretely by the important support that the Québécois Block receives in the present countryside on behalf of the communities resulting from immigration. All the observers agree for the statement, it is there a new tendency and, I repeat it, who am concrete.
For example, last week I met many representatives of the community magrébine in Quebec, in particular of the members of the communities Algerian, Moroccan, Tunisian and Mauritanian, whom the president of the Regrouping of the Algerians of Canada had gathered, Mr. Rachid Boudjarane.
It was reminded to me that more than 16 000 young people of Arab extraction are registered in Québécois schools. It is the highest number among all the communities resulting from immigration. These young people represent a very great richness for Quebec, more especially as several of them will maintain contacts with their country of origin, thus supporting the cultural, scientific and economic exchanges between Quebec and the Arab world.
Idem when, the following day of this meeting, I was the guest of the Regrouping of the young professionals and people of businesses of the Haitian community. The contribution of the Haitian community to Quebec goes up to more than one around fifty of years now and it became very advantageous for the Québécois company with the wire of the decades. The concern and the sensitivity of Québécois and the Inhabitants of Quebec with regard to the events which obscure the destiny of Haiti are they-also increased for this same period of time.
Unfortunately, the young Haitians, who however have a rate of diplomation comparable with the whole of the other young Inhabitants of Quebec, know a rate of unemployment twice higher than the Québécois average. This is why, precisely, the members of the Regrouping of the young professionals and people of businesses of the Haitian community were given for mandate to mobilize their forces and to develop concrete projects which will enable them best to live, in all autonomy and harmony with the whole of the Québécois nation of which they are an integral part.
Me, I find that they are extraordinary news there.
Finally, always in the chapter of the news which I consider extraordinary, there is the birth of my small Jeanne daughter, who occurred last Thursday. That, also, delights me largely.
