Shamelessly ripped from Popbitch, but clearly right up Uber's litter-invested street.
Poor US soldiers - not only do they get sent to die in Iraq, now they're having their funerals hijacked by religious nutjobs.
At a recent military funeral the God Hates Fags movement dragged a US flag on the ground while carrying signs that said "Thank God for dead soldiers".
They also protested at the funerals of the miners who died in the Sago mine disaster, with signs stating
"Aids cures fags"
and
"fags burn in hell"
Their point is that bad things happen to Americans because God is angry that some Americans are gay.
(Picture the scene: God is in heaven watching TV. Will and Grace comes on. Irritated, God causes a mine to collapse) [Fair, I'd say]
God Hates Fags was the brainchild of Kansas Baptist preacher Fred Phelps, and after his death kept going by Phelps' daughters and followers, and is dedicated to "preaching the Gospel truth about the soul-damning, nation-destroying notion that it is OK to be gay."

They were in your neck of the woods a few months back Thorns. They have received death threats so in some instances they have actually received police protection while doing this at military funerals. Fucking incredible that.

The US has no National Religion. The Catholic church has become more about money & power, along with other denominations, and less about charity and witnessing to the unsaved. There is too much bueracracy in the larger denominations.

Protest all you like. I think free speech is one of the most important tenets. However, I consider it poor form to do so during someone's funeral.
