Here's to (in my opinion) the greatest musical mind the human race has ever produced.
Do yourself a favor and listen to one of his piano concertos today.

I agree. Mozart was great.
But I cannot stand how his birthday (He is dead right?) is abused commercially. In fact I am going to punch the next person who mentions him as hard as I can...

"the "Peer Gynt" suites versus "In The Hall of the Mountain King" "?????
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I meant, the Peer Gynt THEME vs. Mountain King...which, I'm sure as you know, are both part of the suite. Fuck me, I'm still jet lagged from flying overseas on Monday.

i hate having to know specifics about musicians. all i think about music is the way it makes me feel when i hear it, i don't give a shit about their style, classification, or personal struggle to get them where ever the hell they did or didn't get. it's like mozart's most famous piece is happy birthday. does that have any bearing on what anyone who doesn't like classical music will think of him? not really. who cares if someone named another composer and they don't know absolutely EVERYTHING about them. it doesn't matter. he's dead. they made a movie about him, he wrote some great stuff, shit on the king's head about ballet and blah blah blah. music is what it is and that's different things to everyone. does it really matter how one composer/singer/songwriter compares to another? not really. it's all personal preference.
-----------------------------
Absolutely. I hope I didn't come off as disagreeing with this. Just pointing out an interesting;u common psychological occurrence.

Fortunately we have Lindsay Lohan alive and well today to share her talents with us.

I dunno...yeah, Mozart's good stuff...but I think Edvard Grieg has better range of style.
--------------------------------------------------
It's always interesting on posts to do with classical music to see people offer up alternative composers that share almost no characteristics with the composer first mentioned, in an attempt to make it seem like they picked that preference over a host of other composers they are familiar with.
No offence, CaptainThorns, and I might have it completely wrong in this case. But it is a common thing to see.
Personally, I have never enjoyed much Mozart except for a few of his more well-known opera tunes. I have tried growing into it, but in the end it all sounds too uniform to my untrained ears.
-----------------------------------------------------
No, you're correct, thorpe. No offense taken. I'm well aware of Grieg and Mozart being completely different breeds of classical/concert music...I just prefer Grieg because each of his works have a distinct sound and flavor to them (for example, the "Peer Gynt" suites versus "In The Hall of the Mountain King"). I enjoy a few of Mozart's sonatas and concertos, but by and large they all sound very similar to one another...as you say, too uniform. Very very structured, and based on the same formulaic theory.
But then, I guess that is how Mozart was trained and educated to create music in his era.

Just to illustrate Thorpe's point, here's a test. Can you tell Mozart from Salieri, just by listening to short clips?
