i've been to corfu (also known as crete), an island off of greece, and i have to say it is the most beautiful place in the world. stay on the northern end to avoid touristy places.

i just got back from thailand, it's awesome.

now is the best time of year at the moment.

thailand is a wonderful option whatever your budget just be sure not to go to either bangkok or the bech resorts because they are cras, way too hot and basicly disgusting tourist traps.

go to chiang mai, chiang rai and the goldern triangle.

go on day treks; you'll see some of the nicest places on earth.

play paintball, bungee, go kart, elephant ride, white water raft.

its all good.
its all cheap.

p.s. alcohol and cigarettes are basicly free.

Costa Rica is a pretty cool place, that being the case. And cheap.

Tahiti is highly recommended as well, if you want to spend a little more $$$.

I have a german friend who has been all over the world... all of europe, the us, Brazil, Chile, Belize, Egypt, KSA, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Thailand, India and Japan... I believe. I might be wrong on the exact countries, but I think that's it.

ANYWAY, she said Thailand was the absolute best place to be.

(second hand info warning)

One of my cousins served in the Navy for five years and one of their stops was Thailand. Among the highlights of four straight days of IV-enhanced partying:

-Habusake: sake with a venomous snake marinating in it. Allegedly one shot will get you wasted.
-Bottles of whiskey full of opium run about $7 (don't know the baht exchange rate).
-Hookers for the night cost $20-$40 (might be moot if the old lady is going unless you're swingers).

Thailand is supposed to be pretty wild, if you can handle the perceived notion you went there for 11 year old boys. Anyway, I hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure Palma is the capital of Majorca, a Mediterranean island.

And don't go there. It's pikeyville.

You can always visit another city, and I think they're all the same everywhere. Get out of cities and broaden your horizons.

I reckon -
Africa:
Fly into South Africa. Chill out in Cape Town visiting the winelands and coast, then rent a car and drive up the Garden Route to Plettenburg Bay. Then skirt around Joburg and go into a game reserve and do the wild animal bit.
Then head on into Mozambique where you'll have ten mile beaches all to yourself. And an exchange rate of about 34 000 to one dollar, and a beer costs you 5000.
From there, hit Zanzibar, but be careful, the north side of the island is pricey.

South America:
Fly into La Paz, Bolivia. Do the jungle, stay a few days in Coroico and then charter a boat to take you up river.
When you've gotten back to La Paz, get down to Lake Titicaca, staying at Copacabana. After that, hit Buenos Aires, and maybe take in Iguacu Falls or down towards Patagonia.

Asia:
havcen't been, but my next trip is Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos & Thailand.

I recommend:
Fly to the South Sea Islands like Fiji or Samoa. Pop into New Zealand and then go up the west coast of Oz.

I dunno dude, it's a big world out there.... I just reckon Europe will always be there as that old place everyone's been to. Go somewhere of the beaten track, there's a much better view.

Asshole Climate - France

Ha ha!

I actually think France is pretty sweet.

Guatemala's my favourite country in the world as yet.
Some bits of Mexico (in the south, away from the States) are also pretty sweet.
Someone said Venice, which is delightful, but may bore you after six weeks...
Go S-E Asia for cheap long-term travelling. Or India.

See if you can be the first to bring bird flu back to the US - it'll spread like wildfire and hopefully solve a few problems.

Europe can be done cheaply and there is SO much to see - my suggestion would be get a cheap flight (Dublin, London, Paris, and Brussels usually have relatively cheap non-stop flights from the USA) and a rail pass and just travel around...if it's your first time, stick to major cities, but don't limit yourself to just the normal places (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome) try to take in as much as you can.

Otherwise, hitch a plane down to the tropics - the carribean is great this time of year.

Travelling rocks. Thanks for the linkage :)

First important question: How much do you want to spend?

I could tell you where to go for a weeks holiday that'll cost you $5000, or a four week holiday that'll cost you a grand.

Also, you want beaches, mountains, bush or slopes? Let's thrash this out...

I think you might have just booked a one-way ticket to Hitwhore Island.

What sort of travel are you looking to do? Rather, what are you primarily looking to do on the vacation: relax or adventure/sightsee? Yeah, yeah, "I want to do both." You're going to have the drive to do one more than the other.

Narrow your criteria and I'll see if I can come up with some ideas. My dad was an air attache for years, so I've been a little bit of everywhere.

Prague is immense. I've not been yet - but everyone who has has come back saying 'beer is cheap'

Moscow has got to be interesting. Totally foreign.

Chalk 'fuck' on China

Amsterdam is good - if predictable

Vienna - allegedly most beautiful city in Europe.

Rio de Janeiro - mmmmm where else can slums and partying co-exist so happily?

They'd be my top choices.
