Writing is considered fodder for the feeble minded, yet, I can not stop writing within this journal. Much of my writing to this point has been insubstantial, a mans drivel of no content, but recent occurrences have forced me to begin documenting the past, because I fear we have very little time left. I hope that somewhere, someday, someone will read it and understand that although we messed it all up it was never intentional.
The downfall of humanity and the moral ideals that we stood for fell at the hands of Candice B Shunlap in the year 2050, when I was 50 years old. I do not believe that Candice knew she would destroy the very fabric our world was so thinly wrapped in, I do not think she understood the complications that would arise from her incredible discovery on December 16, 2050, it just did. I liken it to Albert Einstein, although his theories were of utmost potency, their use, in the end, was nothing more than the destruction of what at that time were our enemies. Candice discovered, with absolute proof, that there was no God, that we were not created, we were simply meat, like all living things, and in the end, there was no heaven or hell, no spirit, no afterlife. We had evolved like everything else around us.
To try and explain what she discovered would take many pages of my journal, something as rare as paper can not be wasted on the facts of the past. For those that read this and doubt, I have hidden the book that explains all the facts of Candice's discovery within the walls of my habitat. Books are no longer allowed, and to be discovered with one, even with my importance to the Nation, I would be fed to the Grimm. What I will say is that the proof did not cause what everyone had expected, a massive World War, a relentless battle fought one last time for the preservation of religion. No, the proof that Candice gave to the world left no doubt, in no ones mind, that she was absolutely correct. The Catholic Church rallied for a brief period of time that the discovery was faked, it was impossible, but even the Pope bowed before the knowledge, and took his own life four months later. Churches began to die off, within two years, only a very sparse number of these ancient relics still existed, they were razed and new buildings built upon the holy ground.
Science exploded. There were no limits to where we could go; no moralistic issues to muddy the waters, nobody battled science, they just accepted it. Within ten years science had discovered the secrets of the gene. We could instantly become anybody we dreamed of becoming. Life spans exploded, women could bear children into their late seventies and by 2090, even older. We never aged and when we became tired of looking like us, we began to look like others. Science cured all diseases, nothing could harm mankind, and we were virtually indestructible. If you were killed by a bullet, you could be brought back with all memories within 72 hours. Murder was irrelevant; there was no pleasure in it so it just stopped. World population grew in great leaps. Food was no concern, as it was easily made in the labs, and frankly tasted delicious.
The problem was space, a lack of it. I look back on my youth and remember the green of grass, the beauty of a snow capped mountain, the blue sheen of a pristine lake. I can still smell the air from a tawny pine, and in my dreams there are fields of wild flowers. The oceans waves would speak to me, and I in return would listen to their soft lullabies or roars during storms. I have pictures, another major offense, and occasionally I will bring them out, but it pains me more and more to look at them. They do not exist anymore; we have developed over every inch of land and sea. Science developed ways to dissolve rock, and huge mountains crumbled under our need for space. Oceans were drained and their mighty beds flattened. The world did not suffer from earthquakes or volcanoes, weather was controlled by satellite, and we had become the God we once worshiped. No land was left undeveloped; there were no trees, no grass, and no water. It was all made by man now.
I am reading over what I have written and realize that too much is being wasted on the past, I am rambling about what can not be changed, it is time to write about now and what seems to be the fall of our future. But what I have written is relevant for what I must write, for the problem became energy, and the solution was the Grimm and the Griss. I have spent the last forty years of my life maintaining them, and when needed, hunting them down and destroying them when they go rogue.
It is after midnight, and my hands grow tired of the pen. I shall write more in the next few days. I will write about the Grimm and the Griss, because a Grimm has escaped, and it is hunting, and I fear it is hunting me.

i'm enjoying this but if science became so advanced, wouldn't we develop in outer space?
anyway, i want to see where you go with it. and also i want to see just what a Grimm is.

Definitely keep this up. I'm interested.
The basic, basic premise reminds me of "The Sky is Falling," the movie about two priests who learn that Christianity is a hoax and go on a rampage, drinking, killing, raping, etc.
Damn the RC Church for strongarming Hollywood into not making it.

I'm interested to see where it goes, too.
Razor, I'm sure that insightful comment will really help AHF develop the next part of the story.
