James,
That night after I came to visit you, I left with a confirmation I'd been waiting for. There was nothing, and there had never been anything. So, I drove.
I drove past my apartment and past 11:00 p.m. I stopped at a 7eleven for a bottled "spring" water. I got back into my car and drove on again. At this point, I wasn't sure where I'd end up.
It had been raining, and the traffic lights were smeared on the road abstractly. I drove over them.
Sick of the city life, sick of not feeling anything but rush, dissappointment, dullness, and waste, I used my cheap American car to leave it. I reached the city limits and entered the county. I was already headed west, so I decided to keep on going. I hear west is a good direction to travel. I hit the interstate and it said Denver, CO, 1675 miles. I'd never seen anything west of West Virginia, so I drove.
Over the state line and into the next morning, I started to question what I was doing. There was still time to turn around and get back in time for work. But, I never really liked my job. I didn't have anything in my apartment worth taking, no friends worth warning, no family who would care where I resided. So, I drove away from the east.
I had to stop for gas a few more times. Illinois and Nebraska. Sometimes I slept in my car, and sometimes I paid for a motel room. After a leisurely four days of driving, I reached Colorado. I had gone west. I figured I'd try south. I drove south.
New Mexico was different. Interesting type different. I worked in a supermarket there for about two months when I decided I wanted to go over to Arizona. I've been there ever since. Working in a bar, renting a little house. I live around no one. And I like it that way.
On several occasions I was curious to see California, Mexico, and some other places foreign to my norm. So, I drove. There's something about the open air. It's so refreshing. Not like you and I used to be.
But I like Arizona. I think I'll stay here for awhile. I'm saving for a plane ticket.
Sincerely,
Carrie
P.S. I don't want to see you anymore.

I was just out in Arizona in October visiting my bro and my bro-in-law who have both recently relocated out in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area.
I liked the golf and the gambling but the landscape and the fucking heat - bleah!

Hi williamson!
You never know, maybe I'm masking my true thoughts with my writing. And Australia isn't that far away from Arizona, you know...
G'night, anyway.
(I know Arizona and Australia aren't really close).

Le Hawt.
Good post. I was worried about you being completely mad and actually doing this until I saw it was signed off as "Carrie".
Anyway, I think I'm done in for the day Uber. I'm going to bed. Goodnight.

This is something I've always fantasized about doing... just jumping in the car and driving away, leaving it all behind. No guts, no glory right?

I envy a lifestyle like that, even if it is unlikely to provide me with the material wealth I so crave.

Nice post. I love Arizona, that's where Steve Nicks is from. We got high sitting on her fence one night when I was 14. {Ever hear the song Little Puffy Clouds, I think by Orb? It's a house mix about the skies there. Your pic reminded me.}
Drive to Alabama nex time instead {the islands} I guarantee you'll have a Most Heated post. {No doubt, no questions, no safety nets. It'll happen.}
"Little puff, little puff, little puffy clouds." That song is like cheap beer and art swirled into music. I got an underage speeding ticket there, but got away by speeding more. "Arizona wants me, Lord I can't go back there."

I must admit -- this tugged at my heart. The thought of leaving it all behind is scary, sad, comforting and happy.
