I realize that's the $64,000 question that everyone's been asking since the bombing of the USS Cole. 9/11 was scary, that much is certain....but this whole cartoon thing?
What wrong with this picture? Is there really an entire society and region of the world that is willing to committ senseless violence because of cartoons printed thousands of miles away? When was the last time anyone was mad at Denmark?
This is certainly a measure of vindication for the United States. We've been saying for seven years now that Middle Eastern Islam simply is not a rational piece of humanity, and here we are. Where one might understand how having military forces inside one's neighborhood might be upsetting to some, the fact some newspapers printed cartoons about Muhammad and some take it as a reason to start violence simply does not follow. Try, if you can, to recreate the thought process in the mind's of some of these people. "Hey, Ackbar. Did you see these cartoons about the prophet Muhammad?" "Yeah, they're WAY worse then Western portrayal of the prophet Jesus, aren't they?" "Let's burn shit." For God's (or Allah's) sake, Muhammad featured in South Park's "Super Best Friends" in 2001, and Jesus, Buddha, Joseph Smith, and every other religious leader in history are routinely ridiculed in every medium in the world, including Al-Jazeera. Why should Muhammad be any different?
The Islamic people should take one minute to consider just how rediculous they appear to the entire world. While I realize they don't care what anyone thinks, rational minds would realize they need legitimacy and assistance from the industrialized world in order to pull themselves up from the armpit of the earth.
This will not end peacefully. Already buildings have been torched and one man died when he jumped from a burning building. People crazy enough to fight over cartoons will not end their 'protests' with negotiation. When this results in more deaths, watch the European Union. Watch them issue their sternly worded condemnation of the 'event' and fail utterly to support the case of one of their members. France and Germany will NOT militarily support such a minor EU member as Denmark, whether or not this ends in violence.
Palestine, what the fuck is wrong with you? There is simply no reasoning with you people. Ariel Sharon pulls troops and forces his own people out of Gaza, and you declare a victory. You celebrate by firing rifles into the air, which routinely kill people when the bullets invariably fall. You celebrate the incapacitation of the ONE MAN willing to try to reason with you maniacs. You launch rifle and mortar attacks against Jewish civilians, and act indignant and suprised when they bring down the thunder on your heads. You piss and moan when London police kill a BRAZILIAN who looks Muslim, but you do NOTHING when other MUSLISMS cut off the heads of non-military workers. I used to think there could be peace in your part of the world, but it's clear you are not reasonable people. God clearly does not favor you. After all, you're not the ones with F-16's or M1 tanks. In His wisdom, God led the Jews to kick the shit out of four of you in SIX DAYS in 1967.
Give it up, Palestine. Give it up, Muslims. God has condemned you for your violence and your hypocrisy. As Israel has done for decades, each innocent Jew in Israel or American in New York you kill, the West will kill 100 of you. You are correct in that the One True God is a God of vengeance and retribution. You are witnessing this firsthand.

It seems like radical Islam, with Palestine apparently at the lead now, thinks of itself in a way as David facing Goliath (hate to use a Bible reference, but hey...). David used his faith in God and his sling to dispatch a much larger and stronger enemy, and gave the credit to God for his victory.
Ceppin' if the West (specifically America) is Goliath in this scenario, David might want to consider that we have a God too and our many slings are bigger, faster, more accurate, and deliver the shot such that he won't even see or hear it coming.
That said, posturing and threatening may change actions but it will not change thought. I am becoming more and more convinced that the final end to these hostilities will either be with the few survivors sitting at a table agreeing to live together in peace, or with no survivors at all.

Ok, here's the thing.
What we're talking about here is not a conventional situation, we're talking about a polarised topic of thought. There have been hate-mongers on both sides stoking the fires of anger and shouting for revenge over anything they can for some time now.
To put it another way, the cartoons have been picked up as a flag for an ideology and are not a particularly big thing in and of themselves. Frankly it could have been anything, a website or a protest or something, which could have sparked all this off.
Furthermore, this is the work of angry people and not a reflection on any faith.
There seems to be an inability for people to see beyond the slogans and banners of the various factions in the global theatre. This whole thing; September the 11th, the occupation of iraq, Israel and Palestines' disagreements, are all political. Emblems of faith are used as they have always been used to rally the people but should not be confused with the real issues. Moreover one has to be aware that there are real soloutions to these political and human (as opposed to spiritual) concerns and there are choices that simply further the problem.
Try to keep a level head and do not let the fervour of others, or your own, blind you.

But you conveniently FORGET that NONE of the groups that you mention FIREBOMB embassys and because they dont like a fucking CARTOON
Nor do they MURDER/STONE PEOPLE/ THROW ACID OVER PEOPLE when offended either.
Islam has a high affinnity for violence. Maybe because its ingrained in the religion or because the members of this cult are dumbasses and cant express themselves properly.
If anyone brings up the crusades im going to SCREAM.. its was 400 years ago. we have evolved since.
---
Well, from a Muslim perspective, the American/Christian alliance DID Firebomb places - and over Oil, not a racist cartoon.
The Muslims do need better PR mind. If you get CNN showing shot after shot of bombs going down chimneys of buildings - and amazing not ONE civilian casualty, as opposed to the obviously biased coverage that you get of any muslim atrocity.
Don't get me wrong - I find myself agreeing with much of your sentiments about Islam being an outdated and barbaric religion, but when abortion clinics are bombed by Christians, or whole countries devastated by Christians (perhaps with other intent - but from their perspective, some hard lined idiot texan decided that their country needed levelling, and then it happened) it doesn't get quite the same coverage.

Hate begets hate. I do think that the Muslims overreact to things - in this case I'm referring to the cartoon of old Mohammad. But then the Americans get angsty over the burning of their flag. Is that any different?
And ofcourse, hard line Christians in America are not fond of any anti-Jesus sentiment.
I think you lot should stop arguing over who has the best imaginary friend.

This comment is an absolute disgrace. How can you possibly condemn a group whilst echoing their sentiments? Replace the word 'muslim' with 'westerner' and you've just reiterated the philosophy that has caused you to feel such contempt.
Think.

I hate all muslims, and my hate has only really appeared in the past year when theyve been acting like chumps. I destinguished the taliban and Osama-BL as individuals after 911, but now i cant. I just lump them all together in a violent group/steriotype.
I'll never have a muslim friend. I could never trust them. Islam is a horrible, dark-ages religion, and as far as im concerned should be made illigal and all the clerics should be publicly flogged and then executed.
Even the good ones with family. Im past caring. Kill them all. Young / Old and pregnant women.

Can't agree with that. I've got some Muslim friends, and they're not all that bad. Admittedly when I was last on the London Underground I did find myself giving all Muslims the evil eye.

"France and Germany will NOT militarily support such a minor EU member as Denmark, whether or not this ends in violence."
If this ends in violence, it won't just be violence against Denmark. Britain and France will be high on the list for republishing the pictures (although admittedly the BBC only showed them briefly) and once we're involved, almost everyone's involved. France will definitely feel the fallout - the french press have generally taken a pretty hard (and correct, in my view) line on the whole thing and they have a large muslim community which, if the Paris riots are anything to go by, aren't that well integrated into society.
That's all academic though - the violence that will come out of this is not going to be an organised military campaign. It's going to be bombings and riots and other acts of terrorism. We've already had marches in london with protesters chanting for a repeat of the bombings of the 7th of July.
And what can any government realistically do to counter that? Pretty hard to beat the shit out of someone when they've already blown themselves up. Middle Eastern governments will go on saying that they don't endorse the violence whilst giving the terrorists a wink and a nod off camera and we won't be able to do a fucking thing about it. There's nowhere for us to invade here - America's already proved that storming in with tanks doesn't accomplish anything.
What I want to know is why this is only blowing up now when the cartoons were published in september of last year? Who's stirring this shit up? And how fucking dare someone complain about being shown a lack of respect whilst marching through london holding a placard that gloats over an act of murder. The hypocrisy is astounding.

While I enjoy your comments and tend to agree with them, I realize that in a way it is wrong to feel that way. Any kind of intolerance, even righteous intolerance, will only lead to more violence. They keep killing us we keep killing them, eventually one party has to stop and control itself to help the other come to its senses.

I would love to hear people try and explain that Islam is a peacefull religion now. Sure when 19 Muslims blow up 3,000 people, the media could soften hearts and say how these people were just crazy rogues. How then do you explain the complete madness exhibited by these people over poorly drawn cartoons?
In a world of over 1 billion Muslims even if 10% of them are fundamentalist, fascist, and extremist is that not cause for concern?

Fucking Moslems.
I heard the head of the "Islamic Council of Australia" on the radio this morning. He said something to the effect of "these attacks against Danish embassies are understandable" and went on to say "freedom of speech does not include the portrayal of an Islamic prophet in a bad light".
You know what... I don't give two flying fucks what it says on their passports/birth certificates/drivers licenses. These moslems are not the same as us proper Australians. We are two different peoples, namely because these fuckers will not (and cannot because they still have 15th century mindsets) assymilate.
